Am in dubai and faring better than year before. Traffic on roads is less , apartment rentals are more affordable and there is less greed in people. It seems like the crowd attracted by the gold rush are now out and city is now wonderful for serious residents. Long live dubai , the gold rushers better find another city :)

I live here, and it's indeed a mess. However, I'm in the area of teaching, and there are still plenty of schools doing fine, so as long as I keep working for locals and in government schools, I'll be ok. Not sure how the International schools are going to fare, however. Time will tell.

I know ex-pats who've been in Dubai for 10 years and are now happy to have just left as the construction boom has really taken a bad turn. Dubai may have a skyline of half-finished skyscrapers for a long time to come. I feel sorry for all the Asian migrant workers though, stuck in Dubai with little or no wages, less work and no way to get home.

Such an interesting city. It was based on an economic view that sees growth as good and -inevitable.- People like Rob Hopkins of "Transition Movement" fame would say that in a time of powerdown, we should look forward to the future as a shrinking world, with less intercontinental travel, money flow, and globalization in other senses. I hope the city realizes it needs to take this perspective into account if it is to survive (one of many possible paths).

Well good for you and your cabbages, let us hope they don't end up costing you your life when you get mugged on the way to the grocery store. be careful to avoid huge areas of your towns on the way there, and also have a nice conversation about the filthy air, prison system, trashed economy and pigs in the police at the store. profit is not wealth, you have been crippled intellectually into thinking that chopping down forests or shutting schools to make profit is wealth, it's the opposite.

Well. Gawsh. You make us sound like we're suffering enormously :P Iuno, prices have been going up and all, but Dubai Mall, largest mall in the world still launched, and I do believe Dubai Metro will still be launching in November.

dubai had a very ambitious plan which has been halted due to the recession which is expected bcos its all made with borrowed money from banks . law is very simple you cant pay two installments you go to jail. how the hell can you repay from prison, i have no clue. this really sucks.

I live here, and it's indeed a mess. However, I'm in the area of teaching, and there are still plenty of schools doing fine, so as long as I keep working for locals and in government schools, I'll be ok. Not sure how the International schools are going to fare, however. Time will tell.
