@cooldanber It's different, but not really easier or harder. Some people don't like that the Cirrus stick is spring loaded, but I don't mind. And since it's on the left it's out of your way for things like kneeboards.
@barramundi10 Watch the video at about 4:28. The Tower tells me there is traffic I'm following. That's my clue to find the traffic and tell him I've seen it. When I do that, he then clears me to land #2, which means I'm cleared to land after the other plane. It can go by quickly and it is quite early compared with when I finally touch down! :)
Wow, this place is beautiful!! I just went for my first flight a few days ago and I loved it. Flew a 2000 C172. Hope you have many safe flights to come :]
@rdfelty I'm flying out of JYO in VA. It's a really nice executive airport. The amount of traffic is just right so planes don't really spend time holding or doing 360s most of the time, and it's near the edge of the Class B airspace.
@radbcc A great question. If anyone else here knows the Cirrus system please feel free to answer. I find that it sometimes goes off without much provocation. It certainly gets my attention and I react depending on the situation.
I really love your videos. They really show a pilots actual job while they're flying. I finally have started taking flight lessons in an old C172F at my local airport. I only have 3.3 hours right now (.3 because we had some engine trouble on the second lesson) it is going for $70 an hour so it is a pretty good deal, although I may move my training to another place that just got a couple C150s because they should be $50 an hour. Keep posting the great videos! They are really inspiring!
@donwert I honestly do not know. At that point I was over the Atlantic Ocean heading to the Bahamas! The terrain was the ocean surface. I find it happens sometimes with no explanation just like sometime I get collision avoidance warnings from my own wake in tight turns. Anyone else with insight about this, I would love to know more.
Very beautiful plane(is it yours?)! Good landing, and thanks for the video. I have a question about your flip-up sun glasses: Who makes them, and are they polarized? I have been looking for a pair just like those form my glasses but have had no luck. I have plastic frames so that might mean I will be looking longer... Any help would be great. Great work! Thanks for the Twitter updates too...
Nice approach Rick, Really want to fly down to ACK soon but kinda a X-country ..... im not there yet. Nice landing too, held it off and firm but not hard touchdown. Wish all mine were that good. Talk to you soon --Andrew
@N44949 Thanks Andrew. Did some pattern today in the Cessna. A good series of landings which is always a nice confidence boost. You'll get out the ACK at some point I'm sure. I'm not in a hurry to go there again until the fall. The summer is crazy down there! Thanks for the nice comments about my landing. I'm starting to get the hang of this! :)
Great job, Rick. Nice approach. No need to apologize to the Cape Air guys....they're used to it. Besides, it's the tower's responsibility to facilitate the traffic flow, not yours. Tower could have had the lead plane to "position & hold, ready to depart" just after the Citation landed, but elected not to....they also may have been waiting for release from ATC.
More important, you did the right thing....when you weren't sure of an instruction, you asked!

Interestingly, I flew to Easton, MD last week and encountered a similar situation. A Citation was coming straight in, so ATC had myself and an airplane behind me complete an extended downwind and had us turn base once he passed. On final, there were 2 airplanes awaiting takeoff. The jets have so much speed, they seem to cause a "hiccup" in the normal flow of GA air traffic. Never done a short approach, but just Googled it. Thanks!
Thanks. This Cirrus is having some maintenance for a few weeks, so the next video I post will be in a Cessna 172. Fun to try new planes. I hope the light and views are as nice as in this low wing. Looking forward to editing the new stuff soon.
" joystick" is actually the incorrect name, it's side-stick. Joystick is for gamers

@Insanity714 Thanks. It was an interesting approach, but glad I flew there. Need to go again!

I have never flown a 'joystick' plane before but is it easier or harder than flying a normal e.g. Cessna 172SP as i would do normally

rdfelty 8 months ago
@rdfelty right but is the joystick 'twitchy' or very sensitive
cooldanber 8 months ago
@cooldanber It bounce back to a neutral setting after giving it some input. I find it pretty sensitive and quick to respond.
rdfelty 8 months ago
@rdfelty so in your opinion which would you rather fly with on a day to day basis, a joystick plane or a yoke plane
cooldanber 8 months ago
@cooldanber I like the joystick more. And I'm not really even a "gamer." :)
rdfelty 8 months ago
Is this a yoke or joystick plane?
bikerman881 11 months ago
@bikerman881 Joystick on the left and right sides. You can see the right stick unattended on the lower right edge of the video. Thanks for writing.

@bikerman881 Joy stick.
