  • 7 people are small-minded

  • I want to see this musical so bad...

  • "A celebration all through Oz that's all to do with me!"

"When people see me they will scream!"

Ooh...I'm not the only one who cringed, right?

  • this song is so morbidly ironic, in my opinion...I love it, and I wish she had gotten her wish <3

  • when i saw the musical i stated to cry

  • 5 people r bitches

  • @noodles6299 7 now, lol

  • "someday there'll be a celebration throughout all of Oz to do with me" aww :( that line makes me sad.

  • I always find this song one of the saddest. It is so full of hope and promise and yet you know how it is going to turn out. It's like Thank Goodness but more understated.

  • @JohnArthurHastings I agree 100% with you!

  • i always laugh when she says the hand in hand line cuz im like "aw i used to hold hands with my daddy too!"

  • 0:47 Morrible skip button

  • 0:49

  • THIS IS MY SONG FOR THE TALENT SHOW!

  • The line at 4:02 when she says "a celebration throughout OZ, that's all to do with me," you realize she's telling the truth. There is a celebration about her, but not in the good way. There's a celebration about her death. She didn't know because she said the vision was hazy. I didn' know if you heard it or not.

  • I picture Lavender Brown singing this about Ron Weasley

  • @tyobfarty "When I meet the Weasley...by my looks, he won't be blinded! Do you think the Weasleys are dumb, or like Gnomes, so small-minded? NO! He'll say to me I see who you truly are...a witch whom I can snog-ify! And that's how we'll begin...Ron Weasley and I..." XD Like that?

  • @dolphinportkey7 HAHAHA Oh jeez, your comment just made my day! I can totally see Lavender singing that! :)

  • @dolphinportkey7 brain. explode.

  • @dolphinportkey7 I think it would be more like, "Do you think the Weasleys are dumb, or like pure-bloods so small-minded?"

  • i love idina menzel!!!! SHES MY IDOL!!!!

  • "But I swear someday there'll be a celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with the me"... that's terribly upsetting. ;/

  • @Danceruu

but still not as bad as "i'll be so happy i could...MELT!" sheesh...

  • Rachel Tucker or Idina... so hard to descide :S

  • this song is full of irony

  • "There will be a celebration throughout Oz all to do with me!" Oh Elphie if only you knew...

  • OMG i LOVE ELPHABA oopps i meant idina lol :3 i freakin love her :D

  • @Shabang314 Shoot....I love Elphaba. The "wicked" witch of the west is actually my favorite character now. I hate the wizard after what he did!

  • Idina puts so much feeling into her singing :D though all of the Elphaba's were AMAZING Idina is definitely my favorite!!!

  • i always try to hold from me to and i'll stand there with the wizard, and i usually make it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My boyfriend is going to see this with his family in November, I am soo jealous. DX I'm stowing away in someone's purse.

  • OMG I AM GOING TO WATCH THIS MUSICAL ON THE 10TH OF DECEMBER!

    CANT WAIT.

    >.<

  • @ZoeTWJ Then you have something to look forward to, I watched it in London October.. simply.. amazing ;)

  • I'm seeing this Nov. 19th I offically can't wait. I've been doing my happy dance since Sep. when we bought the tickets

  • @Under79in9 on my birthday? lucky D:

jkjk, i've already. it's really awesome and it's so worth it! have fun :)

  • Idina Menzel is the best!

  • I went to see the play and it was amazing, i absolutly loved it and its easily my favorite----> the music just makes it that much better <3

  • why does she want to meet the wizard so badly?

  • @sibeal1000 Listen to the lyrics. Jeez.

  • @sibeal1000 It's sad, really. She feels unaccepted by everyone, and is full of hope that the Wizard is wonderful and different, and will appreciate her for who she is. She also thinks that if she is with the Wizard, she will have a place and be respected.

It was a nice dream. Too bad the Wizard is an a-hole.

  • @mauvebassetgirl21 and too bad he is her father...

  • Comment removed

  • I've never seen the play, or read the book, I don't even know the story line to this play. I just love the music so much(:

  • @littlemisDana

You should totally watch it. Best musical I've ever seen :D is not very much like the book though *is currently readin the book*

  • "Of course that's not important to me..."

    Yeah, right.

  • @DataTasha4Ever at the time it doesnt lol

  • this song is filled with irony

  • 3:40 favourite part of the song!

  • 4 people don't get to meet the wizard

  • How could anyone dislike ANY of these songs? The whole soundtrack is superb!

  • its so cool when it goes fast

  • thumbs up if you skip Madam Morrible's part and listens to Elphaba's part!

  • I love the irony in every single freaking song : )

  • I LOVE THIS F***ING PLAYING

  • WOW! I love this song :3 Idina has an amazing voice <3

  • DAMN, she's got so rock solid pipes. I'm so in love with this song.

  • <3 is all i have to say.

  • I like the irony when she says everyone in OZ will have a celebration about her, cuz they will, just in a more negative way than she thinks

  • "not terrorism, death or yearning"

Exactly, it does have those things too. Yearning via the love triangle between Elphie/Galinda/Fiyero (Dancing Through Life), terrorism via Elphie's entire fight against a corrupt government (the entire story, for the most part), and death via the actual book, which has her actually die, as per her original self in the Baum book & the 1939 movie. Which is why the 1990 DiC-produced cartoon & Wicked's sequel both revived her in ways.

  • "yeah, a celebration about your death"

Yeah. It's ironic. The 1939 Oz film was to initially have a glamourous witch played by Gale Sanderguard, but when the executives complained that bad witches are ugly, the idea was nixed for Margaret Hamilton's portrayal (for though she's not really hideous, even Maggie acknowledged her lack of beauty when compared to Judy as Dorothy & Billie as Glinda). Yet, Wicked comes full circle by making Elphie beautiful again, due to Idina Menzel's performance.

  • I actually went to London to see this. :D

  • @pickles454 Luckyy!!!! i wanna see it!!!! how good was it? :)

  • @NessaRulz21 It was the most amazing play I've ever seen. You really should see it. :D

  • @pickles454 omg want too so bad! my choir teacher said if she ever saw it again, shed take me!!! :D

  • @NessaRulz21 you'll be amazed at how amazing it is. :D

  • Gosh, there's a bunch of easter eggs (ironic forshadowing) in this song!

"There'll be a celebration through out Oz that's all to do with me!"

"I would be so happy I could melt!"

"I've been waiting for this since birth!"

  • @qwerty8me556 "When they see me they will scream!"

  • this is one of the best musicals that are out there!!!!!

  • Wow, I JUST understood all the irony in this song.

    Amazing, so amazing.

  • The irony in this song is depressing

  • 3 people felt so bad for elphie that they decided to not poke fun of her skin colour and made fun of red instead

  • @insincwithu I like it =D Great way of looking at it (=

    I <3 Elphie!

  • @insincwithu 4 people now

  • @insincwithu there's 4 now sigh

  • Comment removed

  • 'When people see me they will scream'

  • @amygillies95: Well, at least that remained true, sadly. But Elphie meant well, even if she went bat-shit crazy following Dorothy's arrival, honestly.

  • Comment removed

  • I bet nearly 98% of people here didn't know this.

A professional composer called Doogle who played in Wicked too came to our school for a project and told us that in the 'Unlimited' section, the first few notes are the first notes of 'Somewhere over the rainbow'.

  • @jrdennis95 yep, it was all they could get away with without copyright infringement XD

  • @jrdennis95 I definitely didn't. HOw cool!!

  • @jrdennis95 I knew it! Haha.

  • @jrdennis95 I was shocked too :) And name mispelling: His name is Dougal Irvine :D

  • This song is so sad, I hate it.

  • @9claudiajenssen Ugh I know.

  • yeah, a celebration about your death.

  • so many things in this song are ironic.....

  • I am going to see Wicked today with my bff!! =D

  • I. LOVE .WICKED.

  • @ave5ry you ought to read the book...you'll find differently.

  • Comment removed

  • So much irony!

  • This song has horribly dark foreshadowing for being so upbeat.

  • @LoveTheWords

i know, right? the wording is great, she says things that technically come true, but not in quite the ways she thinks... oh, irony...

  • So happy you could...MELT? O.O

  • First Wicked song I ever heard....it created a monster

  • small minded funny

  • Wow... If irony could make smoothies, we'd all have two each

  • I saw this live in new york on thursday. I absolutely loved it!!! xxx

  • at 4:00 this song is extremely similar to ELP's song 'Pirates' in a good way, i love this character

  • This song is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous. I love it! :)

  • Note "If you work as you should." was sung by Madame Morrible. It's a prediction that if she doesn't do what they ask her to do, then they will cast her away as wicked.

  • heheh. munchkins. small minded. heeehee.

  • i like how she says oz will celebrate her, then they do, but they were celebrating her death. forshadowing. oooh.

  • omg! i might go see wicken in february!!!!!!! sooo freaken excited!!!!!!!!! :DDDDDD

  • @WeasleyOverobsession OMG! Lucky

  • i can play all the wicked songs:)

  • When I went in San Francisco we had an understudy and she was AMAZING!!! AH MAZE ING!!!

  • 3 people wish they were with the wizard.

  • @cribkid1 ive got a better one, 3 peope are color blind and meant to hit green haha. too easy but i dont wanna annoy others so i dont make soviet jokes :p

  • This song always makes me sad. Elphaba has so much hope given to her by Horrible Morrible about being with the wizard, therefore accepted, and making Oz a better place, only she never gets any credit in the end for all the good that she had done.

  • I"m so happy I can 'melt' LOL LOL LOL! In the book she wan't really evil. It was a political thing.

  • @jadepony a political "thing" that turned her into a terrorist, killed her lover, and made her die yearning for forgiveness. It was kinda more than just a "thing."

  • @Happyface400 she didn't really kill fieyro but she turned him into a scarcrow who has to live forever when she was trying to help him. she just wanted him to live when the guards were going to beat him. so basically she cursed him cuz now he can never die.

  • @ave5ry not in the book.

  • @orangeee333 i was referring to the play. but thanks anyway. :)

    hey, that rhymes!

  • @ave5ry lol ok :)

  • "When people see me they will scream" :/ u got that one right elphaba....

  • I saw this on broadway! Its ah-mazing!!!!!! Darn the irony in this song!

  • I love all of the foreshadowing in this song. Especially the part about how she's been waiting to meet the wizard "Since Birth".

  • @PeaceBringer100 You know, I actualy just thought of something. When Elphaba sings "No 'father' is not proud of you..." In the end, we all know Elphaba's 'real' father is actualy proud of her and mourns her 'death' This entire song, though ironic, is an actual vision of the future (foreshadowing) that Elphaba has, no matter how twisted it becomes.

  • @PeaceBringer100 Lol mine are "When people see me, they will scream.." and "One day there will be a celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with me"

  • @PeaceBringer100 ya i know me too! and also when she's like "there will a celebration throughout Oz all to do with me" like when she dies and " when people they will scream" because people were scared of her

  • @PeaceBringer100 "There will be a celebration throughout Oz all to do with me."

"I'd be so happy I could melt"

    It's FULL of them!!

  • @noriegafanatic123

    So true

"Help me meet the wizard" and she tries to stop Dorothy from meeting the wizard!

  • @noriegafanatic123 "when people see me they will scream"

  • @noriegafanatic123

That just proves how sick and twisted the people who wrote this song are. My kind of people. XD lol jk!

  • @noriegafanatic123 "When people see me they will scream"

  • @noriegafanatic123 full of what?

  • @MysteriousMia Foreshadowing

  • @PeaceBringer100 and like "so happy I could melt"

  • @PeaceBringer100 wait I don't get it....hahaha how is that foreshadowing?

  • @17MsGinger

(SPOILER IF YA HAVEN'T SEEN THE PLAY) The Wizard is her father...can't explain it much more.

  • hey I heard this song on the radio for an ad for Wicked! best commercial I heard!

  • I feel bad that she's so excited about everything. :( It makes me sad the way things turned out.

  • I got to meet Mr. Schwartz today and see him perform the drafts of this...incredible.

  • i think i now this person cuz am in advanced and we will be singing it and am a 7th grader yay!!

  • The Chula Vista Choir Advanced girls will sing it this year. Come see us perform at open house on aug 19. i recommend listening to all their performances. Go to our school and enjoy our songs! thanks!:D

  • It truly breaks my heart when she sings 'someday there will be a celebration through Oz that has to do with me' :(

  • So happy i could melt....

    oh Elphie. :(

  • i love this song! but it's so sad and happy at the same time. (is that even possible?)

  • This is the ultimate ironic song!

  • this is sad and happy at the same time... in one word: Wow.

  • i'm gonna use this song to try out for the play. i LOVE idina!

  • Its really a very sad song...

  • I love this song, its one of my favorites, but dammit I hate the irony. *shakes fist* Damn You Irony!!!!!

  • OMG! this is amazing, i love wicked(:

  • "A celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with me"... That makes me die inside every time I hear it. -_-

  • this isn't carole shelley is it? i thought it was idina menzel.

  • @kellym2013 carol shelly is the lady who sings in the beginning lol... =D

  • @kellym2013 The teacher singing "I'll write at once to the wizard, tell him of you in advance" in the beginning of the song. Idina sings Elphaba's part :D

  • When i meet the wizard ill tell him there's a creepy green stalker following him. Joke, Lol this is a great song and i love this musical.

  • I think we can all relate to this song one way or another, like wishing for the fame that you deserve

  • OMG my school went to NYC and saw this....AMAZING! best musical EVER!!!

  • @spiritstickchick

=o I wanna go to your school! xD

  • @spiritstickchick you lucky duck!

  • I just watched a junior in highschool sing this song way better than this. I was like OMG! she gave off a Alice in wonderland theme though

  • i just saw at the vidtoria apollo in london :D it was WICKED! THE NEW CAST IS BLOODY BRILLIANT!!!

  • @babydoll4356 i completely agree...also went to see it recently in the apollo...was absolutely brilliant, and the cast is just amazing
