  • 1:00 that jester reminds me of Max so much I nearly slugged the computer monitor

  • Max Ryan could play that Jester very nicely and to see Jan Jurewicz crush him would be a nice payback from the forigner

"You take my porsche now take my number 8 sign as well"

    CRUNCH

    You gotta love payback.

  • @flatcapman And also I wuld throw my 10 cents in by jumping up and down on the sign to make certain hes flatter then Jan's Green Ascot.

  • this is what rap should be

  • You notice when the messengers crushed the King stand there SMILING and looking cute.

  • Oh, man. I love the idea of a king this obsessive compulsive. I mean, seriously, this whole eight motif is going a bit overboard, don't you think? I mean, he booby trapped his castle to kill the bearer of bad news that his preggers wife had another kid. Man, can't keep his hands off of her, can he?

  • The opening voice reminded me of Zappa, "Dynamo Hum".

  • Who knew? Jim Henson, progenitor of rap music.

What's up with the lecherous King of Eight (er, Nine and counting)? He can't keep his hands off the Queen.

  • Wow, I remember watching this when I was little. I was always enthralled by the princesses' 8 jewels :D

The jester used to scare me though xD I don't know why...

  • Take one look at that goof, and I'll tell you why you were scared. Get a loud of that mouth!

  • LUV it! Poor jester XD

This brings back sooo many memories. (sigh) Sesame Street used to be so good :)

  • The late Jim Henson was the voice of the King of 8. Love the animation!

  • From 1970.

  • I always felt sorry for the jester at the end

  • this is the bomb. princess number 9

  • the king didn't know his wife was pregnant? maybe he's too old

  • it wasn't the kings it was the jesters that's why the king killed him in the end.

  • Dis was so titeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. love itttttt

  • lol I forgot about this...ha ha too funny

  • yeah, no doubt. this is what happens when people are allowed to create freely for television... nowadays too much money controls everything. anybody who doesn't realize that our children are being forcefed elmo for a buck is a moron.

  • Haha! ^^ I still remember the 8 crushing that poor jester. I loved this song.

  • why did the fool with gangly arms die? cause a bloody great 8 fell on him

  • I think this is the only ss segment where one of the characters actually gets killed.

  • No it's not dude - you forgot about the o who rolled "over and over and over" then got eaten by the horse.

  • There was more segments showing characters getting bumped off. Off the top of my head there was: 10 Little Greeblies, 5 Purple Conkers, and King Minus.

  • I just looked those up - I remember King Minus but have no recollection of the other 2. But you're right, those skits also included homicides.

  • Ernie=Jim Henson

    Bert= Frank Oz

    That's why I thought what I did.

  • Gosh, was a loooong time ago, makes me sad, we were so innocent but it's still makes me laugh when the 8 falls on the little jester.

  • The "8" sign falling on the jester was as funny as Wile E. Coyote falling off a cliff!

  • I SO remember this when I was a kid growing up in the 80's I love it!

  • That one princess who was showing off her crown looks so sad.

  • when i was a baby my dad always sang this song!

  • Jim Henson used the same voice for the king as the dog Rowlf.

  • That wasn't Jim Henson, it was Frank Oz. Henson had the higher voice, like Ernie or Kermit. Oz had the more gruff, nasal voice.

  • i loved this one like 30 years ago. always wondered how he walked without feet. woo, 8 daughters he must be broke .... the sign smashes the jester, how cute !

  • Check out his counterpart, the queen of 6. See if it doesn't bring back equally stirring childhood memories.

  • Jim Henson plays the King of 8! Listen closely and you'll know it's him! :)

  • I think that's Frank Oz doing the King, while Jim Henson does the Jester.

  • Oh that is awesome...brings back the memories.

  • What memories!

  • Yeah! This was my favorite animated number clip too. The beat, the rhymes - so totally hip! The only line I've ever been able to remember was the opening and the ending (poor jester). So glad it's on YT 'cause I don't have the time to sit around and wait for them to run it on todays Sesame Street.

  • I distinctly remember sitting in my great-grandmother's bedroom watching this clip. Craziness. That was over 16 years ago.

  • 16? You realize that's a multiple of 8, don't you?

  • Ahh, now doesn't that make 8 TRULY great?!

  • Awesome!

  • alex its nick thanks for posting this!!!!

  • The animation and the castle reminds me of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, which came out not too long before this clip.

  • Amazingness! I always loved this one!

  • One of the best!

  • This was my favorite number clip on Sesame Street. Loved the thing. ...the beat, the clicking, the trumpets. Groovy. I always wondered how the king just slid out the door like he did.

  • For some odd reason these Sesame Street vids used to scare me when I was a little kid.

  • dont feel bad bro man if there was a skit that scared the hell out of me is the humpty dumpty skit. so dont feel bad

  • LOL - makes ya wonder what "help" these writers/puppeteers had back in the 60's/70's to come up with this stuff.

  • Never thought I'd see this again.

    Thanks for the post!

    (Nine daughters! Poor King!)

  • Good grief, it's princess number nine!

(Poor King? The girls were probably all called by their numbers!)

  • I got one daughter and it's enough. Think I'll call her "One" from now on.

  • Did I give you ideas? (Re: calling your daughter by a number instead of a name. Besides, if you've only got one daughter, you don't need to distinguish her from others; hence, there is no need for a number.)

  • I was one of eight girls, so we loved this one. And yes, my dad called us by our numbers otherwise it was a combo of three different names. Also, doesn't the king sound like Yukon Cornelius from Rudolph?

  • It does sound like Yukon Cornelius!

  • Remember Rwolf from the Muppet Show? That's who it sounds like to me!

  • Most likely because Jim Henson is the performer.

  • @Boochalina Thats who it is, you hit the nail on the head!

  • Wow! I had totally forgotten about this one! And I'm glad to see Dr. Teeth's voice being used!

  • Indeed. Dr. Teeth, alias the late Jim Henson, in the role of the King of Eight.

  • Aw....reminds me so much of my childhood *loved sesame street* thanks for d upload

  • Does he have a pet spider or octopus? they both have 8 legs.

  • That would make this clip spookier than it was...an octopus in the royal moat and the whole castle covered in cobwebs, yow!

  • Glad to have the King of 8 back!

  • oh man I forgot all about this one. Thanks for posting

  • Thanks for reposting this one-it's pure classic! Gotta love the ending.

  • "Good greif!It's princess #9..."

*#8 sign squishes the King of 8*LOL!

  • look again, it actually misses the king and squahes the jester. Talk about shooting the messanger lol

  • it puzzles me as to why so many Sesame Street posters are getting suspended. Their videos apparently cover the logos

  • I believe Nickrj1 got suspended because he uploaded tons of music videos, including a weird al one.

  • omg! i remember this one! thanks so much for posting!

  • ah, one of the many reasons why I love the number 8. thank you.
