  • Yes, I would have been happier if there had been 2 Canadian Gold medals in singles skating that year........best wishes

  • I feel so bad for her. Her and tonya harding skated so simular

  • IMO, Midori Ito had enough content in her program to easily defeat Katarina Witt in the FS, which mathematically should have given Manly the gold.

  • I've never watched the programs of Manley and Witt from that night before now, and all I can say is Manley got screwed!!!!

  • It is all a moot argument ... It was 20 + years ago. I saw it in real time and it is just as fun to watch today.

  • @ballinagra13 Koch and Trenary deserved to beat Manley in the short. Are you on crack women. Ito should have won with her shitty figures. What a moron you are.

  • This was the skate of the night, and it was so much better than the boring and inferior performance of Katarina Witt.

  • @karrtt1234 I don't know how accurate this is, but I thought I remember Katarina saying she only did what she needed to win and nothing else. Like giving the minimum effort, and I've never liked that attitude. Manley should have won that night.

  • Great skate Liz Manley, she was the real winner at these games, she a true champion. Unlike the steroid taking Katarina Witt - who cheated and then had the help of the European Judges blocking they way, so she could win Gold. We are looking at the real Gold Medalist.

  • This was so much better than K. Witt's. I think Katerina went a long way with her charisma.

  • @BjGard "No one" agrees with what part of my statement? Elizabeth Manley's LP garnered

the highest scores from the judges.

  • She is just flying!!! WOW!!!!

  • I remember watching this live in 1988, it was amazing. All the media were buzzing about Debi Thomas and Katerina Witt and their rivalry etc, etc, and Liz just sneaks in there and takes the silver. This is one of my favorite "Olympic Moments" Awesome.

  • I have always remembered that move at 4:09!!!

  • Had the new system been in place when she skated, she would have kicked Katarina Witt's ass out of the rink and won the gold.

  • true she would have won the whole thing, winning the long after 3rd in the short

  • I remember this - what a fab skate! Liz Manley was my idol growing up when I was a young skater - she is amazing!

  • This was such a great skate, the real gold medalist ..Liz Manley

  • If they judges weren't holding down Ito in the free program so that Witt could walk away with the gold, things might have been fair.. not to mention Katarina's willing praticipation in East Germany's state sponsored drug program.

  • She was SO robbed at these games. The gold medal should have been hers.

  • This was definitely the gold-medal performance; too bad the current scoring system wasn't yet installed; she'd have won by a mile. I loved Katarina's artistic flair in her own Carmen program, but Manley's performance was the best of the evening, being more artistically pleasing than Ito's technically brilliant extravaganza.

  • Look at her face and reaction when she was done..she did it perfectly and was as shocked as I'm sure the announcers and competitors were. This is called "stepping up when the pressure is on

  • U were robbed of the gold - but there is no denying your fabulous performance !!!

  • I remember this and Ito's performance from Calgary! They were fantastic.. I felt so good for Liz! "Go get em Liz.."
