  • They should have thrown a Jeep Wrangler in the mix. Would have spanked all.

  • that 5.7 liter v8 in the overfinch is the same engine used in the Corvette and the Caprice

  • I own A 2007 Toyota 100 serries 4.7 Landcruiser & I have to say it is the best vehicle I have ever owned & I am now hooked on them. You cannot go wrong, & yes I do live in the Australian out back & travel long distances.

  • I don't think the Cherokee was given a fait chance to be honest.

  • What IS britains's best 4x4? Easy. Defender 110...

  • music??

  • @yarko0701 The Fugees Ready Or Not.

  • All those Americans that had Range Rovers, now have Prius's!

  • @rovemcanus1 And all the people who had Jeeps, still have Jeeps.

  • each car has its own pixle

  • the best was and is and will be the toyota landcruiser

  • jeep wrangler?

  • @anbukakashi114 hahaha. very funny mate

  • I apreciate people telling me the name of the song as they think they are helping me out but about 50 people have told me its ready or not' by the fugees . thx

  • 1st toyota

    2nd nissan

    3rd jeep

    4th isuzu

    offroad cars with out proplem

  • @KuwNova

Do you mean the Toyota before they recalled 3+ million cars in 2011?

  • Crappy Cherokee shouldn't have even been there

  • What about the lwb Shogun ? They are very good too and in 1998 they had the newer one with 3.5 v6 dohc it was a beast

  • On a different episode Clarkson said the Jeep was second best to the Range Rover only to admit later that the RR's three engine options were all crap as well as their transmissions. The Jeep 4.0 is legendary and their trannys are bullet proof. Jeep is second to none as off-road vehicles but Toyota can give them a run for their money.

  • I like how the Grand Cherokee gets disqualified simply because its the last of a model year, which I might add was made to be better than the model it was the last of with a bigger engine and other options.

  • the p38 was great. I love the styling and the interior was gorgeous. seriously Jeremy looks like a dairy farmer from Vermont.

  • the range rover looks like a very big fiat panda O_O

  • fox freaks me out

  • why is he always so bias toward the land rover, its a pos, they kinda suck, plus that jeep is a much better 4x4 and he did not even say anything about it.

  • ill admit the range rover is a good vehicle but i would definitely take the basic cherokee over it as an off roader. as a road car though the range rover is the obvious choice its much more comfortable but in an off roader you need reliability, and the range rover just doesnt have it, not like the cherokee.

  • I owned an Explorer. Good times. They were everywhere in the 90's (at least around where I live)

  • He shouldve tested that explorer...that was an honestly good all around car...

  • Vicki, foxy chick, ay LOL

  • The Isuzu Trooper was our first Family Suv back in 1994

  • Hey that Explorer is awesome, the Explorer is to us Americans what the Range Rover is to you Brits, the trendsetting SUV

  • that Land Cruiser is absolutely huge and I'm an American

  • Mercedes G...

  • i was hoping he would say more about the jeep coz im thinking of buying a '96

  • We've got a Trooper (called a Jackeroo in Australia) it handles the outback easily, good old Isuzu engineering

  • is the land cruiser a v8?

  • @YiJustin558 This model has the 4.7 V8 petrol engine. Also availeble were the 4.2 (turbo) diesels and the 4.5 6cyl petrol engine

  • @jan585 ah, nice.

  • if you guys had any brains you would know that any peice of shit jeep cannot be compared to any toyota.... especially 70 series landcruisers.... in the mining industry, thats all they use because they are the most bulletproof car man has ever made.

  • @ChrisFehnNumber30 your (garbage) opinion doesn't change the fact that its most likely because they are the easiest to source locally.

  • Land Rovers are junk and they will never match Jeeps Reliability and its off capability.

  • What? Range Rover is the king? When?

  • Just wanna be sure, he said a General Motors engine? in Britains best car?

  • @feeneyhungry

Correct. The Range Rover, at least those of that era and older, used an engine that was originally designed by Buick.

Rover bought the rights to the engine from General Motors in the 1960s and did their own modifications and improvements to the original design, keeping the engine relevant until recently.

  • jeep is the beeeeest!!!!!

  • HEY WHERE IS THE JEEP?!!

  • Jeep has the other 4x4 scared that they didnt even bother testing it

  • @NateJames1 ya no joke plus time has shown the zj is better than the wj. solid front axle or IFS no decision there. zj with v8 has the proven 5.2 L, mine has 203k miles and still runs great, or the new 4.7 L with no track record. and the 242 tc in the zj with the 249 option. 242 is better. i think the wj only uses a 249 but not 100 percent on that. ill take my manual 4x4 242 tc versus a push button or AWD all day long.

  • Jeep CJ thats where its at

  • I think it's hilarious that he had nothing bad to say about the American offering besides the Explorer having Chrome and the Jeep having a new model coming out the next year. He didn't wanna have to say they were better than his Land Rover. I really hope that people don't take Top Gear seriously when the go to purchase a vehicle.

  • what episode is this??

  • I have owned a toyota landcruiser, a land rover, and three jeeps, a wrangler, grand cherokee and a Jeepster. and the ultimate winner is the jeep if you can afford the massive 500 to 800 a year maintence costs then a jeep is for you.

I beat the shit out of my cars and if it can survive me than mad props

  • 330bhp isnt much these days not for that size of engine.

  • I do not think the 4.0L SOHC Explorer does it justice. I have a American 1998 Explorer XLT with the 5.0L V8 and manual 4x4 and front locking hubs. My Explorer beats the crap out of my friends 5.9L Grand Cherokee, on road and off road. Also, my mom had a 1999 Range Rover that we purchased new. That thing spent more time in the shop then it did in our garage, until we traded it in 2011 GLK-350 4-Matic. And we maintain our vehicles well, mine's clocking 216,000 miles now.

  • does anyone know the name of the song in the beginning????? pleeease some one! i love this song!

  • fuck all my jeep cherokee will humiliate any other 4x4

  • What the hell would Jeremy know about 4wds??

  • defender all the way!!!!

  • @SuperSlashrocker

I didn't see a defender in the line up ;)

  • did jeremy just say that one of britains best 4x4's is powered by...chevy?!?!?!?!?!

  • no thank's, i'll stick with my xj..........top gear only know's about cars not 4x4s...

  • what was that song ??

  • @rs200000000000 No idea. Maybe somebody else knows..

  • @jan585 its called

The Fugees - Ready Or Not

  • @jan585 Fugees | Ready Or Not

  • @jan585

At start, "Ready or Not" by the Fugees, which used samples of "Boadicea" by Enya.

0:40 is the theme to the movie "633 Squadron."

    2:44 I couldn't figure it out.

3:50 "The dueling banjos" from the movie "Deliverance."

5:52 "Jupiter: Bringer of Jollity" from "The Planets" suite by Gustav Holst.

6:53 "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" from "The Sound of Music" by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein.

    8:51 couldn't figure it out.

  • @jan585 it's ready or not by the fugees

  • @jan585 Lots of comments! Thanks!!

  • lauren hill

  • @rs200000000000 The Fugees - Ready Or Not

  • @rs200000000000 if you're talking about the one that starts the video, it is 'ready or not' by 'the fugees'

  • @rs200000000000 ready or not - the fugees

  • @rs200000000000 FIRE & ICE - Enya greatings from POLAND

  • @rs200000000000 Fugees - Ready or Not Wyclef Jean Lauryn hill

  • @rs200000000000 from 5:53 onwards? 'Jupiter' from Holst's Planets Suite. Great music.

  • @rs200000000000 Fugees- Ready Or Not

  • @rs200000000000 Look up enya

  • @rs200000000000

The song is by 'The Fugees' and called "Ready or Not", they were a good band.

  • @rs200000000000

if your refering to that last song it was "climb Every Mountain" by The sound of music chorus and orchestra

  • @rs200000000000

Its the Fugee's of course. From the 1996 album The Score, the song is called ready or not.

  • Ready or Not (Fugees song) (Lauryn Hill)

  • @rs200000000000 ready or not. fugees

  • Comment removed

  • @rs200000000000 It 'ready or not' by the fugees

  • my jeep has 220k km and it has been at the mechanic only for minor details, god is this car reliable, but got to admit it does gustle gas, only my brother in law 1969 land rover with a deuce button on the stick, can go where i go, and some times more, that thing is a monster, it even comes with a crank rod to start it, in an emergency,

  • all of your comments sound good, but when is all said and done, the real test for a 4x4 are the amazon basins and forest in south america, from brazil, venezuela, ecuador, peru, and colombia, and having to deal with mud mountains in the andes, that is where you test the ability of a 4x4, and there is only two suv they use, jeep and land rover, anything else stays in the city or nearbye roads, i personaly own a cherokee 4.0, and beat every other suv to climb large stretches of steep dirt mountains

  • @jimdrade They sure love Land Cruisers there in South America. Search for 4x4 fun race (or something like that) and you see that in these 'races' they (only) use land cruisers.

  • @jan585 You are right, they do use land cruisers alot in these fun races my cousin competes on them, but they use suzuki more, and that is because the price of the vehicles, remember most people in south america are poor and can not afford to wreck a jeep or land rover, only a selected few do it, to give you an idea a 12 year old jeep or land rover in great conditions, will cost you about 15k dollars and a brand new one depending on model 100k$ or more.

  • @jimdrade Those suzuki vitara's are verry good offroaders. Small, short wheelbase and light, they can handle a lot (as shown in Top Gear Bolivia Special (or south america).

  • @jan585 they were famed for falling over though

  • @rs200000000000 That was a downside yes. But a good drivers knows the limits of his 4x4.

  • It definitely is the Land Cruiser, without a doubt. Yes Land Rovers do go off road but they always break down, which already makes no sense as a 4x4. At least at that time, Land Rovers are for those who don't know the Land Cruiser, OR, the Mitsubishi Pajero / Shogun. Both these two Japanese machines are indestructible.

  • @Douglas6250 Don't forget the Nissan Patrol. Only the GR Y60 2.8 turbo diesel needs some work on the engine at lets say 200.000 km (125.000mile)

  • @jan585 Yeah the Patrol is also excellent, but if I were given the choice, I would have gone for the Mitsubishi Pajero. I just feel that the Pajero / Shogun is tougher, OR, if I don't want to pay that much for fuel, I would have gone for a Suzuki Jimny. That car is fully equipped for off-roading as well !!

  • @Douglas6250 For me it's any 4.2 diesel land cruiser (i prefer the 80 series turob diesel) or the 3.0 diesel 90 series. But those 4.2 (turbo)diesel engines are the best engines!

  • @jan585 They are indeed very powerful. The Japanese just knpw what they have to do. How can a 4x4 break down !!??

  • @Douglas6250 In America, the two best offoraders are the Toyota Land Cruiser and Toyota 4runner. Then comes the f150 raptor.

  • @Douglas6250 well i am not disagreeing with you but if you want longetivity and indistuctability then get a jeep xj 4.0 i6 powertech engine.

  • @tylerspyler2 honestly, Ive had alot of problems with that motor and car in general. I mean it was a 90' but it only had 140k on it and I had so many stupid fucking problems with it. My 90' wagoneer with a 360ci was way more reliable and lasted till 240k before I felt a rebuild was necessary( although it was still running.. decent). Although I was the second owner of the xj, maybe the first owner fucked it up.

  • @WhereEaglesDare312 may I ask what they were? and I will admit that it did not have the best equiptment when it was being made but in 97 they redid it and it was a good vehicle from then on as far as i know. and are you in the us?

  • @tylerspyler2 yea, Montana. what they were?

  • @WhereEaglesDare312 i meant the problems lol. what were they?

  • @tylerspyler2 it started with the timing censor, then the rear axle fuckin broke.(I know thats not the engine) replaced it with a explorer rear end. injectors went south at 150k and they were already replaced. I had alot of electrical problems and it idled like shit, throughout fixing it.

  • @WhereEaglesDare312 well if you had the dana 35 axle then it does not surprise me and sensors do go bad, and older jeeps did have electrical trouble, as for the injectors.... well i come up short, you may have had the renix engine therefore you had renix injectors and they were no good from the start. well my 2000 xj has been great to me just wish it got better gas mileage lol.

  • @tylerspyler2 yea, it was an older jeep. I know new jeeps are very legit. my friend already put 90k miles on his 09 4dr wrangler and has had ZERO problems what so ever. Im just sayin that my 90 wagoneer with the simpler 4-barrel 360 was more reliable than my 1990 injected 4.0 cherokee. alot more fun as well

  • @WhereEaglesDare312 well i do not have much experience with the wagoneers or the 360s but you did have a different electrical system then jeeps after they quite making the wagoneer when the switched over to obd2 diagnostics it was originally renix which was advanced at the time but never really caught on or was any good.

  • It definitely is the Land Cruiser, without a doubt. Yes Land Rovers do go off road but they always break down, which already makes no sense as a 4x4. At least at that time, Land Rovers are for those who don't know the Land Cruiser.

  • yea land rover in North America is shit. I could see someone wanting a defender or someone who is really rich and can afford rich replacement parts every 3 months buying a range rover. Really though as much as Discovery II looks good and is a good concept the motor is NOTORIOUS for bad quality. No lockers in the disco II???

  • I love my cruiser tooo..,.

  • There is one car, unfortunately with similar reliability issues, but better in its job than all tested here - Lada Niva.

Surprised? Lada is the one that pulls all the rest offroaders from mud/snow/chasms in the end. So old but still the best for plowing through terrain.

  • Did shogun not make the cut or did i miss it?

  • the best offroader is either a vw passat or a mercedes SLR mclaren

  • sad... just sad

  • the fox ruined this vid lol

  • dueling banjos haha

  • America has this brittian heavy weight beat! Jeep, toyota, nissan got em whipped

  • what a crappy point of view ... the jeep grand cherokee 5.9 not only is great off road it's also pretty comfortable and it would go anywhere

  • @m3e30fuckinsavage yes but all jeeps after 1987 were shit

  • @rellirTnoraa1 you're so wrong! the yj,xj,zj,tj,wj are as good on road as off road, very capable trucks and comfortable ones specially the zj and wj. the xj pretty good but not too comfortable (i've got one xj and zj, and i'm 6"2).

  • @m3e30fuckinsavage No good sir it’s not the ability I am concerned with its quality witch Chrysler products lack I had a 75 j20 and a 67 witch I was quite happy with then I got a 92 xj and it was shit. also what has height got to do with it

  • @rellirTnoraa1 Zj was beast so shut up

  • Eddie van Halen is dutch

  • @ 7:53 when Clarkson says its enormous. The LC isnt even Toyotas biggest SUV, THe Sequoia is. Id like to see what Clarkson thinks of it! But that 4.7 and Toyotas new 4.6 and 5.7 are extremely bulet proof. My mom has one in her Sequoia, nothing wrong yet!

  • i really hope that Explorer wasn't fitted with Firestones...

    lol

  • the best = PATROL 2010

  • lets be honest, the old landcruisers and patrols are indestructable. but the new landcruisers are not, unless you are talking about the new 79 series, because they are built soft

  • its all about the trucks. thery are the true off roaders. F-250

  • Land rover defenders r better

  • I bet all those American stars all drive a Prius now :-)

  • the defender is better, period

  • LOL @ the banjo music when the Explorer came in.

  • Land Cruiser was and remains the best and reliable off-road car

  • Damn, never thought old range rovers had american engines.

  • ill Stick With Jeep. Cant go Wrong. Good MPG, Very Reliable and If you have a properly equipped Jeep it will beat the Land Rover offroad. Go to Alaska and you will see a Shit load of Jeeps. Why because They Need a 4x4 that Wont Get Stuck in the Bad Weather.

  • landcruiser ftw, my sahara is 26 years old and still kickin ass

  • Micheal J fox is Canadian...

    way to go Jeremy...

but then again you don't really care as long as it makes your point

  • lmao at 3:52

That music make Ford look like an yokel

  • i would still not take it over my jeep

  • Anyone from Australia or Africa will tell you there is only one choice of 4wd vehicle.

So many of the comments below just make me shake my head in wondermeant.

Anyone from Africa or Australia will quickly put you on the right path when it comes to choosing a vehicle that is reliable, tough, strong, common and easy to service, carry's a good payload and one that you can trust your life with as well as damn good offroad, all day every day, day in day out.

    People who argue don't know....:o)

  • @ihaveairlockers Right on !

  • @ihaveairlockers true that,my Dad bought the new Rover in 1970...he drove it around in Zambia!

  • @ihaveairlockers It's called the Toyota Land Cruiser. The Nigerian Government and the UN love them.

  • @KoopaKabana

    Yeah I know. I have 2 of them. I have a 2006 Turbo Diesel GXL 100 series Auto and a 2006 79 series Ute.

My original comment was written in a particular way to send a message and make people think....

But thanks for your comment anyway :o)

I wouldn't use anything but toyota. I just didn't want to mention the word Toyota because it starts so many fights.

Like i said, Those who know don't argue :o)

  • @ihaveairlockers Thw e Land Cruiser and 4runner!

  • @ihaveairlockers

Absolutely. There is nothing to touch the Citroen 2CV.

  • @ihaveairlockers lol when I was in Australia, they had theyre shit down! I saw alot of land cruisers, some 4 runners, subarus, jeeps, you know. Not very many suburbans, excusions, or dodges. I did see some explorers though. But what im talkin about is that alot of people have tow bars and snorkels. Because they get shit tons of rain and need it. In america douches that live in LA or something will get a f150, lift it a foot with huge tires, and NEVER touch mud or snow or anything.

  • @WhereEaglesDare312

    Jepp !

Australia the 4wd capital of Earth, that's for sure !

    I've got 2 cruisers in australia, a 100 series and a 79 series.

  • @ihaveairlockers I don't think kangaroos or GT ostriches make good 4x4s ;d

  • @ihaveairlockers land rover defender

  • @ihaveairlockers clearly a jeep!

  • @ihaveairlockers defender!!!!!!

  • i think the land cruiser is the best 4x4 you can get

  • best 4x4's of all time Suzuki Samurai/Toyota Land Cruiser and Pick up/Land Rover Defender

  • @RovingLandRover you left out Jeep

  • I love the Grand Cherokee!

  • All land rovers are better than any japanese or American 4x4 land rovers can go everywhere better than jeeps because their British and are the best!! :P

  • Its Find of Funny when Top Gear Never Compairs the Land Rover to the Jeep. Maybe Top Gear Knows the Jeep is the Better 4x4 ands its More Reliable than all but the Ford Maybe. Land Rovers are not for Off Roading but they are more of a luxury. The Defender is probably the Only 4x4 that come close to being as Good as the Jeep. But i Dought it.

  • Japanese cars are the best, Isuzu trooper beats hands down against the range rover.

  • Land Rovers Defender is the best 4x4 there is good reliable 4x4 even old series 1,2,3 are reliable too. Land Rovers have driveing in many terrains like the camel trophy extreme offroading.

  • @dddddddgggggggggg I read a "lot" about people that travel around the world/a continent by 4x4. And what i read a lot is, when they are chosing their 4x4, it's about Defender for looks or Land Cruiser for reliability and that people who choose a Defender have more repairs needed that Land Cruiser ..

  • @jan585 Have you ever seen a Camel Trophy video?

  • @counterclockwise123 Yes, i think i've seen them all

  • @jan585 I'm confused.

  • @counterclockwise123 Srry, seen the videos of all years (i think)

  • samuri woulda owned

  • Im all for the trooper. Theres no reason to spend 30-40K more for a vehicle with only slightly better performance off road.

  • Why dont they ever review the jeep srt8 on top gear 2009 - 2010 and so on i complained to them and they blocked me.assholes.

  • Range Rover is the best off roader. But i'ld still rather have a normal Land Cruiser (not the big V8). Its half the price of the Range Rover and as good off roading and then its also the most reliable car in the world...

Range Rover is for people who want a big luxurious car which they can take off road once in a while.

The Defender on the other hand is for proper off roaders who don't know how to drive on anything other than rocks, rivers and dirt and luxury to them is an AC and radio!!

  • i am an American and i used to own a range rover and she was the best car i have ever owned

  • can anybody tell me the name of the music at the start?

  • wheres the pajero?
