i'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the old style of bars routines is far more interesting to watch. Everything now looks like I've seen it a billion times before, even the real "difficult" transitions and dismounts...There was something more artistic about the old way they thought up their routines
While other five finalists got 9.90, Nelli got 9.85 and got no medal. I guess the right decision. Melita Ruhn and Steffi Krakker had more difficult routine. Filatova was really lucky to tie for bronze with them. Nadia, in spite of perfect 10 in AA, was not in the final.
Like some others who have commented, I love the old-style bars, but many of these skills can't be done on the new wide-spread equipment. Back then, if a gymnast stood on the low bar the high bar was set to be about waist high. Now the bars are as far apart as they can reach, fingertip to toes. A different set of skills, but I do love the variety of the old stuff.
I don't know about you guys, but I think that's the coolest dismount I have ever seen. Is that dismount banned now a days. 'Cuz if someone does that dismount now a days, and maybe add another twist or two, instead of just a single twist, think it'll be pretty hardcore. But of course, I'm saying this out of a non-gymnast perspective. kudos Nellie!
They did stuff you hardly expected...not like now..it seems all they do is swing around from bar to bar, one or two back flips and the dismount. and that's it.

HOW come the balance beam routines (from this clip especially) are not done like this. I think its more exciting. Todays routines seem soo bleeh.. what do you think?
Firstly, this is uneven bars, not balance beam. Secondly, the bars were much closer together then than they are now, allowing for types of skills that are not possible now. Thirdly, the code of points has drastically changed.
what you lack is a life and some logical reasoning. I never said i i knew anything about this sport.. Obviously you have issues on being right all the time. I am grateful im not their to spit in your face.
You are overly touchy. You asked for what I thought, I provided you with facts about how the bars and code of points had changed (with nothing malicious said), and you freaked out telling me to get a life. You obviously cannot accept that someone knows more about this sport and merely tried to inform you. Grow up.
Nelli used to have different routines for almost every championship. For the Olympics she has a different one she took away some elemnts like the handstand and she add new ones. But compared with others rotines of the competition it look inferior.
Combined with her prelim score (9.875), she totalled 19.725, the lowest of the six finalists (and the only one of them not to medal). If she had scored a 9.90 like everyone else during the finals, she would have medalled.

You know, now gymnasts can not stand feet on top of the boards. So, I think, now it doesnt look so beautiful, looked like before. I agree with you!

Considering I didn't call you an idiot because of your lack of knowledge of a sport that you pretend to know, you should feel grateful.
