  • stretching a little too far in the piano solo. a

  • 5:34 - 5:40 Oh Shit!

  • not bad not bad.. In my opinion I think the songs much nice with the song kept with the 'latin' feel rather then the 8th feel then drum n bass.

  • What chord extensions are you using on the piano in the intro vamp?

    Thanks

  • this is a very interesting version. nice solos, guys.

  • niice. my ears and 7th chords get along so well

  • i like this song. im playing this in my jazz gropu. Were all under 15 n we dont know how to determin which notes you can use when you solo so we dont solo.:( i solo on some but when i play, when it dont sound right, i jus dont use that note no more, if anyone can help me and my group n tell me how to determin which notes you can use when soloing. it would really be appreciated.

  • Determinng the notes that "are correct" is a wide subject. You could begin to use the "most ingoing scale" which is basicly 8 Notes which go with the chord you are using. Little sunflower uses a D Dorian scale, so its all the white notes on the piano (flated third and flated seventh) in the first section. It then goes up a half step, then are using a basic Eb (ionian)Scale, going back to D Maj so a D Scale with F# and a C# the "normal - ionian" scale. You could test blues scales on this one.

  • Dorian. B instead of Bb. Also lots of Pentatonic possibilities--major and minor. But not much else. It's a pretty simple song. Always the hardest. Just my thoughts...

  • Well you can use any note you want. But to start try to solo with the arpeggio of the chord you're playing. First try to use notes on the harmony when you dominate this you can introduce the tensions. Practice makes perfect I hope I hepled you.

  • i really dont like to think of scales during my jazz soloing.

    play the chord tones.

i do that while playing a lot of passing notes.

i dont know what instrument you play, but its somewhat easier on guitar when you have the chords right in front of you

  • D m Pent

  • I want to have that sax player's babies.

  • Dont speed up just cos youve gone to the B section!

  • I love this piece, this is one of my favorate jazz tone even it is extremely easy (only includes three chords: Dm7, bEmaj7, Dmaj7)

  • That's how you describe yourself?

  • Excellent.

  • I agreed w/you this is a great version of little Sunflower.

  • Great!! I also LOVE Dave Valentine's version from Red Sun!! Absolutely Devine.
