I don't see it as an insult to the Irish. It's more of a jab at Americans and how they use Saint Patrick's Day as an excuse to get drunk and fight with one another as if that makes them Irish. Most people are smart enough to look through the veil of stereotypes and realize there is more to Irish culture than beer and brawls. My parents are from Ireland and they love celebrating Saint Patrick's Day "American style" and don't take offense to the festivities involved.
