So is Billy Connolly to the UK what George Carlin is to us? (i.e. a comedy legend that might be considered a philosopher and changed what was thought possible in stand up comedy.) The more I look him up the more impressed I am. I don't know why he's not more popular in the states.

As to your question why he is not more popular herein the States, well considering that our most popular comedians are a fake Redneck with a lame catchphrase and no sleeves, and a guy who puts his hand up puppet asses, it may be a commentary on we Americans and our "popular" tastes.

BIlly's ancestry is Irish - Connolly - the Scotti (Roman name for the Irish) settled Alba in Iron Age and married into the Cruthin - Picts - note no invasion - we got on for years - so we are all the same stock - cousins - I see no difference - I LOVE Scotland - only other place I felt like hime when I was abroad. Alba agus Eireann go braigh a charda.

@greghell I think you're right. I was just making a general point that Irish and Sots and are closer in every way than they might even think themselves - culturally, musically, humour, dialects and so on - one people divided by a tiny strip of water and religion

Now we have a new awakening of our shared past heritage and along with VIking, Norman and other blood we should enjoy a united culture!
