Prince can still cut it live but as a recording artist these days he is utterly insignificant & irrelevant - he hasn't released a great album since Sign of The Times and that was 25 years ago! It is like he lost a heck of a lot of creativity or originality or now just can't be bothered, he has better songs in the vaults than the Shite he is releasing lately. Other than die hard fans, nobody pays any attention to the crap albums he brings out.
...during a five-hour session, that also produced Carnac (later renamed 17), Edward (later renamed Asswoop or Asswhuppin' In A Trunk), Parlor Games, Rootie Kazootie and a mostly-instrumental version of Space, all of which were intended for a third Madhouse album, 24). The album, and (Got 2) Give It Up, remain unreleased.
(Got 2) Give It Up, a cover version of Marvin Gaye's track (titled Got To Give It Up) from his 1977 album Live At The London Palladium is the ninth track (sixth song) on the aborted third Madhouse album, 24. Unusually for Madhouse, this track features vocals, sung by Nona Gaye, daughter of the writer and original singer of the track, Marvin Gaye. Initial tracking took place on 7 July, 1993 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (during a five-hour session
I'm not sure this this actually Prince. While he obviously plays on it, it really sounds like Candy Dulfer, but I can't find it on any of her albums. Whatever the case, this is nice.
People people, don't hate on a brother after I say this oaky...??? I LOVE'S ME some Mr. Mighty Funky Purple-one, BUT... I truly believe that this is one of those songs that falls into that "Untouchable" and "Out of reach" catagory. Yes, only the best of the best have tried (ie Prince , David Sanborn, Marcus Miller, etc.) , but facts are facts, Mr. Gaye REALLY out did himself when he first recorded this one yall...ESPECIALLY the full 11:58 version of it!!! That version REALLY get's down!!!
@DRUMTOY2000 We the People can feel Your pain, however, in the words of Bernie Mac, "YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND;(...i ain't scare of you muthaf*cker's!) Prince has proven himself in music so much so-that tha Brotha has our blessings to blast any joint he want's 2 and in most cases, do it BETTER/or at the very least:KEEP UP.
As a lover of Brotha Nelson's music-you already know that covering tracks was'nt his thing originally...however the great 1's must pay homage 2 the great 1's be4 them:)) right?
The more I dig into You Tube , the more shit I find by this genius motherfucker. Is this man an endless hallway of talent. Every time I turn a corner there's something else that makes me say..."Gotdamn, this nigga's Bad!"
