Shinobi, bad idea unless you hedgehog-proof your house. They're inquisitive little things and doing that is really some feat. Besides, everyone in your house may not always look down to check for your spiky friend. That, and how are you going to find them when you need to?

Plus, not all hedgehogs will become litter trained. They're stubborn little beasts.

Ops, my apology, sometimes I tend to hit the wrong (adgesant) key when I'm in a hurry. Now that I look back at what I wrote lol, feel bit ashamed. What I ment was that at the water part of the video it would be cool to add (hurry up low oxygen) sound from sonic 3. The sound that goes for last 5 seconds before players breath runs out. Wow "ass the sound" "sinic", I should double check my spelling when it comes to typing, its easy to hit the wrong key at times :P

They make pretty good pets. If you want to be able to hold it without gloves, you'll have to give it a lot of attention. Once it's comfortable with you, you'll be able to hold it without it poking you. I had one a long time ago and she was an awesome pet.

Are hedgehogs hard to care for/expensive, and are they hypoallergenic?

Not really hard to care for but they do require some level of maintenence & responsibilty.. such as: a specific room temperature, since it's fatal for Hedgehogs to hibernate. They tend to cost around $100 and up, as for hypoallergenic.. no, but if somehow allergies occur.. it's most likely from the bedding used. Although, their quills give off slight skin irritations, little red bumps.. but it's expected and quite normal. It usually goes away after you wash the spot where it's itchy. =]

We usually keep the food and water dishes at the corners of the cage, to keep them cleaner. But sometimes he gets bedding in the water. We change it every other day though. I'd prefer not to do a bottle because they try to climb them and then get their little legs stuck in it.

Yeah you have to buy them, they don't occur in the wild here. And the ones you have to buy are African Pygmy hedgehogs, they're smaller and make better pets. They're specifically bred to be sold as pets. Unlike normal hedgehogs, domestic (/African Pygmy) hedgehogs can't get too cold, or they'll try to hibernate and often die. They can have lung problems if you give them the scented litter. And hedgehogs in general are prone to cancer. But they don't carry 'diseases' like the wild ones in NZ/UK.
