  • This is magnificent and to the people who dislike this Away and boil your heid and make stupid soup. Saw this lot 30 odd years ago and this and the other side of the record are still great.

  • well how people can get all worked up over a harmless joke about this being a metallica cover is beyond me,i mean how could THIS ever be a metallica cover...but yeah the song's great! I have this 7" and i like it loads!

  • Zero New Blood <3

  • More Mekons!

  • meek meek if you dont know it i feel sorry for you first finger hand gesture! meek meek

  • i have it 7 inch vynyl! mine all mine where were you!

  • John Peel played this a lot in the late 70's. The drums building to a crescendo at the start just builds the excitement. Big John Langford was the powerful drummer. Heady days. There are quite a few gems like this in the punk era. Great guitar riff.

  • fail

  • Boredoms ! Super Roots 7 !

  • TOP STUFF!!!

Punk got hijacked too soon ('80 onwards) by tuneless thrash bands; just listen to this lazy, Vibrators-like, intro alone to know what it was also about.

  • GREAT SONG !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome indeed

  • Loved this song, still do

  • cool tune

  • FUCKING WOW!!

  • gret song

  • Pepper Hicks sent me here

  • eight six six ron zero fez

  • Cover? wanker! I was 16 in '77 and its all been derivative since....this was new and scared the shit out of the straights....was a bit tougher being a rebel then when the world was a much more judgemental place.

  • @tb23111

you sir need to broaden your horizons lol! first try some dead kenedys and husker du then move onto more obscure stuff lol

  • @eckmacdonald shut up fucking dolt

  • @tb23111 What Metallica cover? Fool.

  • @jimtherat8 it was a joke, you fucking idiot. you must feel really dumb. you fucked up!

  • @tb23111 Hilarious. You know what else is a joke? You and your shitty sense of humor, dumbass!

  • @jimtherat8 you wanna rumble jimmy the ratdick?

  • @tb23111 Everybody hates you.

  • Love this toon!!

  • How does this sound anything like Metallica? So confused ...

  • Brilliant tune. What an intro! I'll admit I hadn't heard this til very recently. I can't listen to Sproston Green by the Charlatans with quite the same reverence any more as much as I love it - I think it owes a lot to this tune.

  • thrills me to hear this!!!

  • LOL there's a skateboard video for all songs.

  • Great intro but the lyrics are a bit naff.

  • @roandyable Wanky comment, sorry

  • The singer has an awesome U.K. accent.

  • @thFreeInnocents Good for you! I'm 17, and i only wish i knew someone with such good taste!!

  • @JurricaChiannaNycole Yeah I struggle to find people my age with good taste in real music :/

  • what an amazing song!! does anyone have tabs or chords?

  • Makes me feel so old... such a fantastic song that summed up the crap of the 70's.

    Rock in Mekons...

  • one of the best records of 1978. and it was a great year for singles!

  • Ladies & Gentleman, if you love this song, check out Boredoms - Super Roots 7. If the Mekons version is a fighter jet, then the Boredoms version is a rocket, taking off into space.

  • Leeds finest

  • Can ya'll please don't polute this brilliant track with your moaning about some other shite band ,that has whatsoever nothing to do with this music..yeah...?....thanks.

  • Love it!

  • Amazing. I bought this when it came out and it is one of the few songs that still has the same impact on me now as the first time I played it.

  • half of the people listening to this song only know it from the zero vid

  • @fuckyou51000 true

  • Um,347UMOM YOU UNEDUCATED TOSSER, METALLICA WASN'T EVEN BORN!

  • Two minutes and forty eight seconds of pure post-punk perfection.

  • zero\\\\

  • @lionwalldees hahaha thats were i first herd it to

  • I do want to bash Metallica! This is just fantastic from the Autumn of 1978.

  • Wow, I forgot about this tune. Pretty cool, sounds better now. Aging is weird.

  • This is the song that made me ditch all my 10cc, The Cars and Skidz records and listen to music with my ears wide open. Thank you Mekons. I owe you so much

  • it's a single from 1978. It has no album.

  • This is what brilliant sounds like?

  • @347UMOM Enter Sandman is from 1990 and this is from 1978 but uhh I don't want to bash Metallica or anything...

  • Comment removed

  • not even 1990, 1991, and in fact, metallica was formed right after this was released. so maybe mr. hetfield listened to the mekons just as he listened to killing joke or nick cave :P

  • @347UMOM If anything, Metallica ripped this song off. But I don't see any kind of similarity anyway.

  • @Umenneskehater : RIGHT !

  • @Umenneskehater

    Me neither.

  • @347UMOM I do, Metallica are poo

  • @347UMOM what has this got to do with stupid mindless Metallica. nothing. it is insulting to compare an Irish punk band like the Mekons to metallica. been takin too much narcoticks?? he?

  • @347UMOM

and btw. if u really know metallica you know they were kinda keen into punk-music (just listen to some of the covers theyve made). So theres a greater chance of them taking influence from older groups, knowing or not knowing of it.

  • @347UMOM eh, bro this was way way back, even before Metallica existed. Sorry to disappoint you...

  • @347UMOM : what has this got to do with stupid mindless Metallica. nothing. it is insulting to compare an Irish punk band like the Mekons to metallica. been takin too much narcoticks?? he?

  • @347UMOM are you on crack?

  • @347UMOM Take off search filter on Google images and look up Metallica to see faggotry. I also think it's cute how they lost a Grammy to Jethro fucking Tull. They suck, dude.

  • @347UMOM Mekons well before metallica lad!!

  • @347UMOM: YOU STUPITT ASSHOLE - OFF THE STAGE. METALLICA EVEN DID NOT EXIST AT THE TIME THIS SONG WAS RECORDED.

  • Album?

  • zero new blood!

  • hell yeah! i always wanted to know the name of the song!

  • Top tune - i also heard that bowie show ! long time ago now.

  • First time I heard this was when Bowie did a 2 hour dj slot on radio 2 in 79. I was taping it and had to turn the tape over after this one started. It was 20 years before I actually heard it in one go without a gap in it.

I love playing this on my guitar.

    Best song ever.

  • I'm trying to hunt down 2 records that Peel played on radio in the early 80's.

i don't remember what they were called but i remember the lyrics.

"You'd better run for cover and get into a fall out suit."

    Was also" cadarma cafe"

Spelling is probably wrong but if anyone can help i would be great full.

  • Kardomah Cafe is by the Cherry Boys

  • The Mekons and the Fall are about the last surviving authentic punk bands of the pre-70s era! They're authentic punk music dinosaurs. .

  • God wish i was a teen in the 80's lol 5/5

  • this came out in 1978 so if you wanted to be a teen in the eighties you'd still be a few years ahead of the time since this came out

  • 70's/80's then lol

  • I was a teen in the 70's, and in my 20's in the 80's, and it was brilliant !!!
