This is magnificent and to the people who dislike this Away and boil your heid and make stupid soup. Saw this lot 30 odd years ago and this and the other side of the record are still great.
well how people can get all worked up over a harmless joke about this being a metallica cover is beyond me,i mean how could THIS ever be a metallica cover...but yeah the song's great! I have this 7" and i like it loads!
John Peel played this a lot in the late 70's. The drums building to a crescendo at the start just builds the excitement. Big John Langford was the powerful drummer. Heady days. There are quite a few gems like this in the punk era. Great guitar riff.
Punk got hijacked too soon ('80 onwards) by tuneless thrash bands; just listen to this lazy, Vibrators-like, intro alone to know what it was also about.
Cover? wanker! I was 16 in '77 and its all been derivative since....this was new and scared the shit out of the straights....was a bit tougher being a rebel then when the world was a much more judgemental place.
Brilliant tune. What an intro! I'll admit I hadn't heard this til very recently. I can't listen to Sproston Green by the Charlatans with quite the same reverence any more as much as I love it - I think it owes a lot to this tune.
Great song. Check out the Boredoms' "7→ (Boriginal)" (yeah that's the title lol) from their Super 7 EP (not on youtube unfortunately) for an absolutely kickass sorta tribute to this

@347UMOM what has this got to do with stupid mindless Metallica. nothing. it is insulting to compare an Irish punk band like the Mekons to metallica. been takin too much narcoticks?? he?
and btw. if u really know metallica you know they were kinda keen into punk-music (just listen to some of the covers theyve made). So theres a greater chance of them taking influence from older groups, knowing or not knowing of it.

I have seen the Mekons at least 30 x live and they NEVER dissapoint! Brilliant music as always and f****** hilarious people too! Sympathy for the Mekons!
