  • I agree with Danijel from a year ago. Marriage is just a word and it is about equal rights, call it anything but as long as the rights are the same is the main thing to me and a lot of other people dont care about marriage rights, it is about equal legal rights with superannuation and with death of a partner, wills etc. I can see that marriage may be a big issue to some but to me the word doesnt matter as long as the rights are equal.

  • Sadly it's not just Australia where this type if backward thinking exists. Even here in the states it's a major arguing point. Then again, you can't be openly gay and serve in the military here unlike in Oz. Still I have high hopes for Australia. More people there believe gay and lesbian couples should be allowed to marry compared to the US. I do believe Australia will see legalized marriage long before the US ever considers it.

  • People don't like change. This is unacceptable - especially when the fear of change starts affecting people in ways that makes them feel inferior or limits them compared to a vast majority of other people. It is truly sad to see that in 2010 some people are completely against equality outright - come on, hiding behind religion is bad enough.

  • Would love to know how you made this video was very cool

  • such a great video with an amazing message. i still believe that it is wrong for a government to deny any group civil rights. everyone is equally important and therefore deserves an equal chance at happiness.

keep fighting the fight! i wish LGBT australians the best in their upcoming elections <3

  • You are very articulate. I find that very attractive. I'm in the USA and we have Palin, God help us. I've been out for a few years, our struggle here in the states will continue, even though many more mature European countries have provided EQUAL rights to their citizens. New to YouTube. Keep on posting, yours are very interesting. everybody remember this quote: Speak even if your voice shakes...

  • @GaryInMilwaukee Thanks for the kind words :) I'm glad some people enjoy them!

  • I like this video, but I must say I don't agree with the idea of "homosexual marriages". That is right! Gay couples have the right to be gay couples, but they don't need to obtain the right to be able to get married.

Marriage is the holy matrimony between a man and a woman.

If people want the same rights as heterosexual-married couples, then fight for that right, don't fight to be able to get married. Get an amendment to the Law to encompass the same rights with a NEW legal term and same Laws

  • @danijeljames if what you say is true, then tell me this: why is it that atheists have the right to marry?

  • I think marriage equality is important, but at the same time I don't think we should fall into the trap of it being a vehicle for "normalizing" us. Because although it's definitely a tragedy that same-sex marriage is not recognized by most countries, it's equally a tragedy that other unions continue to be marginalized. I'd highly recommend checking out this lecture: watch?v=EDynaeB4MUI

  • Yay! You're back!!!

Love your vid. I know what you feel like.

Julia Gillard has voted for gay rights in the past I really don't know why she is against gay marriage. She's dating a hair dresser for crying out loud!

Jesus - the family first party make me wanna vomit.

    Keep it real Brodhe. XOX

  • you have facebook on in the background!! lol

its a small issue because gay ppl are only like 8% of the vote.. they dont need us. and whilst most polls show a majority of people do support gay marriage it is more of a passive support rather than active. until it becomes less controversial i think not much will change.

  • To Canada FTW?

Seriously though, in the US it's similar. Obama says he's not against gay people, but he believes that marriage is between a man and a woman. Let me pose a question:

Marriage is between a man and a woman _in a church_. What gives a married couple the benefits of "marriage" is a contract between the two of them signed by the state. So why not group that contract in with the term "civil union" and extend the benefits to gay and lesbian couples?

  • Those politicians are supposed to represent you too. Their is no reason to hold marriage away from gay people. I am in America and I am getting angry about all the crap too...it is senseless.

  • "why should we all of a sudden change the definition of marriage to accomodate a lifestyle choice-no no-this is not about equality...I can't believe this is an issue when there are so many important things that we are talking about" I'm sure people once thought about why all of a sudden there should be equality to other minorities? If this is not about equality...than what is it about? If this is not an important issue...then way are we talking about it? It IS about equality and IS important!

  • Brodhe - Great to see you vlogging again. It's quite astounding to hear a prominent politician who's an atheist sounding more ignorant than the Bible-thumpers. Hang in there - it might be imperceptible to you right now, but the tide is turning.

  • It's so disgusting that this is still an issue. We are all equal and deserve to be treated as such. It's not a choice. We were born this way and I hope that my children do not have to grow up in a world of discrimination.

  • First of all, I'm so glad you decided to make a video, it's been a while :)

Ugh, on another note, it sickens me how there are still people out there who oppose same-sex marriage. It's absurd and utterly ridiculous.. I'm sorry things aren't exactly moving forward as they should be in Australia and I hope that everything turns out as best as possible for you and your country. :)

  • Amazing Video. I love the overlapping parts it gives it a somewhat ominous feel to it. As though it's not just one voice, it's many voices trying to bring to fruition the pain the idiocracies cause to us all.

  • @DarkPolarisBoi haha the transitions weren't like that actually but when I uploaded it Youtube did funny things to the video :\

    Thanks x

  • @mcgee210 Ah! That damn YouTube, well it adds to it so call it a happy accident. Lovely Job either way. =P

  • It's pathetic that every time there's a group that's being discriminated against, it takes DECADES of fighting to SLOWLY win the rights it deserves. The cycle just never ends. History is about learning from past mistakes, yet this cycle just loops and loops.

We'll eventually get there, and win our rights... but why should we have to? It should just be automatic. And after us there will still be others who have to fight for the rights they deserve.

  • Equality will come. We went through a lot of the same problems you mention here in Canada. We now have equality in marriage, same sex can adopt, get survivors benefits, etc.

  • Wow, that woman sound really ignorant at the end, such a shame.

  • I ain't surprised by the stance of Tony Abbot who, like most religious conservatives, doesn't seem to grasp the concept of a secular nation (Constitution section 116). However, I am baffled by Mdm Gillard's position on this issue. Although she identifies more with the right of the Labor party, she still is the leader of a center left government in a country whose population majoritarily support gay marriage. As such, Mdm Gillard's attitude on this issue should be pretty clear.

  • It is only a matter of time (the sooner the better) before Australia legalizes gay marriage. Since there are more and more countries where gay marriage is legal, the old arguments used by conservatives are repeatedly beeing shattered by reality. Here in Canada, where gay marriage was legalized since 2005, the ground under our feet hasn't crumbled and to my knowledge, no straight was forced to marry a homosexual.

    Greetings and support from Canada

    Aurevoir

  • We are in TOTAL solidarity with you here in the US, Brodhe!! Bigotry, discrimination, and injustice is global ... but so is our Brotherhood & Sisterhood ... and our resolve!! ^_^

  • That's just disgraceful. "Why would we change something that's been around forever?"

She's obviously an ignorant politician. "Lifestyle choice", "minority". Pah!

  • I agree with you a 100% I am sorry that Austrlia is so far behind on this issue....I would ask you to use our videos in any blog or send them to any media outlet you feel will help change things.
