as for specific examples, she is mixing NA and CHA when in act they should be said with a pause. next, for the word GHRANA, the emphasis has to be on NA, like ghraNA. if someone is taking an effort to sing and publish it on youtube, i think we must provide constructive criticism so that next time its even better. there is no argument. pronuncing sanskrit the right way creates effects it otherwise won't. research in the science of 'meters' which sanskrit uses if u like. it will give u some idea.
Haridarshan Ji, all GOD needs is the bhakti, irrespective of the pronunciation mistakes.
Tulsidas, Mirabai, Narsimha Mehta are the few examples who were not great scholars of any Bij Mantra of Vedas or Bhagavatam but chanted Hari's name with Bhakti and it did work.
Bhagvan is hungry of love & devotion not about sheer words, because words without Bhakti do not mean anything. Krishna confirmed this in Gita.
@ndave001 please check out on my ID imspcl65...I love this prayer so much that I also tried recording but voice sounds tiring...please do make comment and let me know how did I do...thanks!!
look am not saying it's bad. but the beauty of sanskrit comes from various words and syllables, when pronounced in a certain way, create certain vibrations which invoke different moods. i already have commented her for singing so well. all you guys are missing the point. what u say is all fine. but if you were learning french and said a word wrongly, will u not try to improve your pronunciation? same applies here.
god bless u sister! great voice and talent you got...just make sure you work more on pronounciation. it doesn't matter in normal singing but stotras, vedic hymns and chanting are supposed to be sing in the correct way to get the real effect.
Adi Shankara created Bhaja Govindama when he saw a sanskrit scholar trying to teach the correct pronounciation to his disciples
What matters the most is Ishwar's name and devotion.
He is the one who understands the language of Bhakti not the words otherwise we would be able to generate the same effects as Adi Shankara did when he composed this one, but we could not, why?
Because we do not possess the same devotion as they did, God Vishnu saved an elephant (Bhagavatam) no word
true but beej mantras and some other vedic mantras have a potency which can either harm or help. they are not used in bhakti traditions. i just made a general point that in stotras like this, it doesn't matter. like you said, bhakti is all that matters. but there is no harm in correcting and making sure we don't mispronounce just in the case that you happen to be pronouncing some of those mantras. i am sure nobody would want to have adverse effects from chanting otherwise safe mantras.
there is a story where a brahmin lost his wife by wrongly chanting the mantra given to "protect" her. so you see, pronounciation matters a lot in those kind of mantras. anyhow, if singing hymns and stotras in the lord's praise is all that you wish, then you can totally ignore this :D
P.S.: oh btw i thought the poster of this video commented so i addressed her. but well no i think its to the one who posted the comment :)
I was just trying to make a point that sheer workds are not useful if there is no bhakti/devotion is there.
Mirabai, Narsinha Mehta were not scholars who were able to bring Srinath Ji upon their will, because as Krishna said in Gita that he is controlled by the Bhakti/dedication & devotion.
I used to think like you because I know lots of Shlokas but later on when read this story of Bhaja Govindam, saluted Adi Shankara's philosophy and it generates Ahankar from this.
again, you are missing the point. i am not talking about the bhakti tradition. its different. i am talking about the jnana yoga traditions like shaivism, tantrism, etc. mantras they use are so potent that even if you don't understand what they mean, and if you have no faith, they still work. every single time. it's another thing that such mantras won't be given to those who can't use them. but still we are not on the same page here. anyways, let's just enjoy this song =) no point arguing..
Yes! That is the answer: everything depends on the approach. If you are jnana you have to be exact in each sound, but if you are from bhakti tradition, you have to express your passion. :-)
Not bad for starters. Pronounciation is off. Talented enough to smoothen the roughness. Audio is messed up. When you pick a tough one to sing you should practise a lot and do justice. Good luck.
Why dont you people let people broadcast themselves the way " THEY " want to .
and you rest of losers TRY and do at least the same of better if you think you can
Good Day. And may your God or whoever you you are tying to impress . help you.!!!

Na puNyam , na paapam.. here her tone is barely tolerable, to be frank. Not a melodious voice.

There's a story of Valmiki who sang Mara Mara Mara in his previous life and God understood that as Rama Rama Rama.
I think the pronunciation of this girl is decent though. Please, be more specific if you think there are mispronunciations.

Nice try. But get the audio settings correct. Thambura is dominating singer's voice. work on this balance.
