Playing in Europe is where the money's at. The US is a shit country for good musicians compared to western Europe. I've seen some of the baddest players in my life play in front of 20 people half of them talking. MMW are good but they didn't get popular until they became a cult of personality with the hippie scene. I played MMW for a girl who ejected their CD after 1/2 a song and 2 years later she's wearing their shirt, not because she has a connection but because of the scene.
@THEINVENTABLETHREAT Phish and MMW are what got me into the scene. They kind of broke down the bias I had against certain elements of music, where I would have seen some phish to sound too odd, or some MMW to sound too avant-garde.
I finally came to the realization that music is music, just enjoy it.
"Medeski, Wood, Martin, and one and only, a very good friend of Lugano, John Scofield!" That is the best intro ever... Too bad we (America) aren't as down with the new fusion funky town.
@pretorious700 Medeski, Martin, and Wood is an avant grade jazz trio (with John Medeski on keyboards, Billy Martin on drums, and Chris Wood on bass) which John Scofield often recorded and toured with.

Love how he uses unusual sounds from the guitar i.e, pickup switching in between of a bend or rubbing the string into the fret.
