Ivo will remain one of my top Chopin interpreter along with Zimmerman for his ballads, Pollini for his nocturnes, Samson Francois for his waltzes, and of course Kissin for everything. Sorry folks but Rubenstein and Horowitz leave me cold on Chopin. Ingolf Wunder is the next one to watch, and yes he should have won 1st prize!
A chilling message to the heart. Anguish. Despair. Tragedy. What lay at the heart of Chopin when he crafted this vision of pain? The notes are inscribed on a stricken soul, a tempestuous tableau that reaches out to mankind. Music of this grandeur liberates. All thought is centred upon oneself, within which calmness prevails despite the raging turmoil without. It's as if Chopin is creating this musical architecture to order the chaos around him, such is the breadth of his genius.
@dialoguequent I'm just a big admirer of Chopin he was a true master and genius of the piano. He mastered it before he was in his teens. John Lennon probably didn't have a quarter of the knowledge Chopin had of music.
IMO there is here such a commitment to the work, with an intense purpose to serve the music ! that leads to a tremendous performance. I'm personaly moved by this vision and immense means to serve it.
Why are we comparing two completely different genres from two completely different time eras? o.O

A favourite piece.
Saw this tall, diffident, young man play many years ago in London.
He was excellent.

Very nice, although it doesn't have the fire of the live version at the Chopin competition.
