I do get annoyed when people have to start saying one version of a song is better than another. It begs the question of how they know? Or is it just that they prefer one version to another, which is fair enough. A live audience once voted for Elvis Costello's version of She over Aznavour's original. They clearly couldn't appreciate the quality of Aznavour and opted for the familiar. And I'm afraid that's what I hear with some of the preferences expressed here. Matt Monro is top quality.

@BobsArtGallery I only wish we still had such great singers like Matt on this earth today. There are a few but far too few. Matt could make any song such as Autumn Leaves sound like magic. It still brings me back to my youth when he gave us such wonderful hours of top quality music.

@RealMusicKing I'm certainly not going to argue against Nat Cole. All I will say is that there are too many quality versions of this song, all styles from Miles Davis to Juliette Greco, for it to belong to any one artist. I like to hear what a great artist brings to this song without having to rate or rank them against each other. I think Matt has such a soothing voice you can underestimate how good he is. But no offence taken, I love Nat too. What would you give to have Nat and Matt back?
