  • I saw them open for Wolfmother last year in a small venue. If you have the chance to see Heartless Bastards Live, do it! Fantactic Show!

  • this band is the balls nuts!

  • What is it with girl guitarists and only down-strumming?

  • @porkstorm that'st the way buddy holly played too

  • @porkstorm Jack White plays with a lot of upstrokes. There is no right way to play the guitar or any instrument for that matter. The sound is all that matters. If it takes all down strokes to get it...so be it.

  • Best rock band out there at the moment (to me anyway)

  • Best rock band out there at the moment.

  • Cincinnati.

  • just kinda realized the similarity to cat power in a strange way...

  • Lookin' down to make sure she's hitting that chord change for sure

  • Why is Letterman so fixated on "Austin" at the end there? The Band is clearly trying to give some love to their home town! Oh Dave, have you become a slightly senile elder who has the right to start telling a "when I was your age" story whenever it suits you?

  • everyday I love this band more & more

  • coming to the blind pig in ann arbor at the end of july! can't wait.

  • @TasteForDisaster Habit mabey, doesn't mean terrible

  • That still hit the smaller venues at times. They were here in Little Rock at a small place called Juanita's just a few months ago.

  • fantastic live band. they've got great energy and sound amazing.

  • Saw them in a tiny second-floor venue in Cincinnati in 2004 or 2005. That version of the band was fantastically rough and sludgy. But I love this version too.

  • I hear a Patti - Chrissy incarnation.

  • I love Erika Wennerstrom. I love the HBs. I love James McMurtry even though that's a different band. I love the Pretenders. Anyone who doubts Chrissie should track down their first album. I'm sure that Erica loves it. James Honeyman Scott was amazing.

  • @robmatlivingstone You are completely off the mark, they are one of the best rock bands performing today. Perhaps you are the one who can't hear correctly.

  • This band is awesome. Can't wait for their next album

  • I just saw them open for DBT...was pleasantly surprised even if they aren't the most original.

  • i think they are very good live. i don't think they could do bad on anything!

  • they are all soul and real feelings! Love them!

  • @raysfan527 Completely disagree, they are awesome live and their songs don't sound the same at all. Not sure why they were opening for Wolfmother... not really that similar.

  • @hungrykillerspoon But he does have great musical guests!

  • @jimmymac63 yea he does the dodos played in Letterman great band

  • They're better live! Saw at Dia de los Toadies.

  • Saw them at Bottem Lounge in Chi-town. Awesome!

  • Cincinnati loves the HB!

  • Wow theese guys rock on cd, like the Friday Night Lights Vol.2 Soundtrack! But they are truely amazing live, even on the David letterman show lol!

  • i love seeing a band porform live! i have them on my ipod cause i bought the friday night lights soundtrack vol.2! i listen to it every day!<3

  • now i know how girls feel about rockstars

  • Heartless Bastards killed it at the Independent last night! Erika Wennerstrom is my new hero. And she made a bunch of disaffected hipsters dance like nerds. Whee!!

  • Tonight at Echoplex w00t (4/30/10)

  • cant wait to see them on the 30th with hacienda.

  • somebodys been watching chrissie hynde

  • @phildirt3 This chick blows away anything C Hynde ever did. In this 4:00 song she completely dominated anything the Prestenders ever accomplished. Holy shit, this chick freakin' rocks!

  • @JoeAverage86 Really?

Song writing , especially vocals and guitar playing, no candle to Chrissie Hynde, although this chick is GOOD. The hairdo is an obvious homage.to the Rock Goddess!

  • Saw them open for Wolfmother. I loved their cover of Done Got Old

  • jus saw and heard em 2 nites ago for first time ever, supporting brendan benson....they kicked his ass fraid to say!!!!

  • I saw them a year ago in Reno, opening for Gaslight Anthem, who cancelled at the last minute, making HB the headliners. It was okay by me, since I came there for HB anyway. Great show!

  • this knocks me out, as does the entire album. thanks for posting such a great rocknroll performance!

  • Janis Joplin

  • i like this band. been trying to figure out who she reminds me of vocally?! finally realized, 4 non blondes- anybody see HB gig on austin city limits? good stuff.

  • thank god the circle is unbroken..u go on HB

  • Dude I grew up in the 70s and Wolf Mother are wanna be no talent posers...

  • I agree, Wolfmother sucks a wolf's dick. and so does this bullshit. what the fuck, cant people come up with decent music any more? they need to go listen to some Zepp and stop trying to be avant-garde.

  • @chadgarland this is hardly avant garde..this is like neil young influenced rock..its gotta sound somewhat relevant cant just rehash like wolfmother

  • @chadgarland and if I listen to Led Zepp AND Wolfmother? What then?

  • Then its null and void, because you also like underoath, bless the fall, and demon hunter. mega-fail.

  • @chadgarland and the ramones, ac/dc, guns n roses, and wilco. what's your point? am i not allowed to have a broad taste in music?

  • @chadgarland i agree that led zeppelin is great but you have to actually give music a chance before you call it shit

  • brilliant band...saw HB open for Wolf Mother @ Termial 5 in NYC...Wolf Mother sucked and should have opened for the Bastards!

  • Wolfmother blows these guys out of the water. I saw them at the kool haus in toronto and it blew me away. HB on the other hand were just average I thought. You're completely entitled to your opinion though :P

  • gonna see them at canal street on the 27th with my brother.

  • I saw these guys at The Empty Bottle in Chicago, before they hit it "big". I knew these guys were going places. Ericka rocks!

  • @baldy5000 - rocks like shit dripping down the side of your ass with a burning case of diarrhea

  • @baldy5000 i don't really think they've even made it big yet, but i know what you mean, knowing when a band is going places.

  • thats awesome

  • yeah these guys are damn good

  • sow them live

  • I LOVE this song!! Just saw them with Wolfmother and the newno2! Awesome show!

  • ME TOO At the Riviera

  • They were all fantastic weren't they?! I can't believe I saw George Harrison's son!!

  • The finest female voice I've heard in ages. Great songs. At last, another decent female rocker!

  • saw em at lollapalooza in chicago this year, pretty solid

  • Yeah, I definitely like her style. She's got a seriousness to her that makes her special.

  • nice energy...erika's outfit reminds me of early ray davies...not an insult so don't take it as such...thanks

  • You have insulted me for the last tim e hihats! DIE!

  • your user name sucks complete ass...how's that for an insult...? go away ya gnat

  • As insults go I find it rather unimaginative. Now where were we? Ah yes, I believe you were about to go DIE! Gnat.

  • you are what's known as an internet troll...clowns like you can manage to wreck anything such as this HB clip on YouTube...a 1,000 pardons to The HB's for allowing this clip to be sullied by remarks from hairypitsnauseateme

  • You're silly!

  • great band, love the music

  • poor drummer didn't get a shake...

  • YEAH, CINCINNATI!!! Even though wiki and their own site says Dayton, we know the truth. Back in 2001-2004 Erika was my favorite bartender at Arlin's on Ludlow, and she brought a lot of great music to the scene there, made me sing karaoke a few times, heh. What a ruler. Her voice and talent are amazing. Love you Erika.

  • I was in Arlin's tonight wearnin' my Stubbs shirt from Austin! No way!!

  • @claredom she has served you drinks before?! lucky!!

  • Letterman, get the wieners out of your fuck. They said Cincinnati. CINCINNATI MOTHER FUCKER!

  • i saw them live yesterday at the kool haus! fucking amazing! <3

  • She looks just like Tom Petty here. Great band.

  • Not the sound, but the overall attack and feel of this band make me think of a group like Creedence Clearwater Revival.

  • Original sound and talent...you go girl! Eat your heart out Joan Jet! This girl is right up there with Chrissie Hines, Debra Harry and Patti Smith

  • Straight up no bullshit rock and roll! Why are they not huge? Everyone should hear this.

  • they're getting there, slowly and surely, which is the best way to get there

  • Caught them last Fri. night in Richmond, Va. Blew me away!!! My first exposure, ...where have these guys been hiding???

  • go cincinnati!

  • Saw 'em with Jenny Lewis last night here in Jacksonville at Freebird, they fucking tear it up.

  • Me too!!! That show was fucking amazing! They killed it!! I got their autographs. Their singer Erica is a cool chick! Oh and Jenny is so hot.

  • Just saw them last weekend with Jenny Lewis at a place that amounted to a back patio show. Awesome live band.

  • They're touring with the Decemberists at present.

  • If any of you saw them live, they toured with The Deep Vibration. Both bands came into our studio to perform so check em out!

  • I honestly don't know why they don't get more airplay! Sheese, if she isn't a second coming of Janis Joplin, there will never be one!

  • James mcmurty and the heartless bastards are playing denver in July. I'm new to these dudes but whenever I see a video with James, Erika is not with them. what's the deal?

  • Comment removed

  • to: balto1997

James Mcmurtry and the heartless bastards are not the

    same band as

    The Heartless Bastards

    Two totally different bands

  • Can someone please fix this video so we can all see it...Thanks

  • i saw these guys in camden a couple of nights ago, they were awesome! x

  • skip david 0:30 lol

  • he doesnt even seem like he likes it all wtf david shame on you

  • You ARE Awesome! Wish I could catch you with Jenny Lewis.......Peace and Strength!!!!!

  • Great Cincinnati band with that Austin sound!

  • shit

  • I'm liking the addition of the 2nd guitarist. He's very good and it really beafs up the HB sound. I do miss the original drummer, guy layed the shit DOWN. Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic linup in which I am very much pleased.

  • Im seeing them Friday at Club Underground in Reno, Nevada (where I saw and filmed a great Filter concert last year, it is currently available to view in 12 segments on my YT channel). Im very much looking forward to it!

  • I bought The Mountain last Friday and I've had this song stuck in my head all day.

    Great album.

  • I must have seen this band on a really bad night, because they were duuuuuuuuuullllll. Maybe I just didn't get it or I was too excited to see the main act, Andrew Bird, but if anyone from the band is reading this:

In all seriousness, try to play a livelier set when opening for another band. The people there to see the opening band are excited, don't squander that excitement by plodding through dull songs. I know I sound like a dick, but whatever....

  • I saw them open for the Gaslight Anthem, and they weren't dull at all. They rocked the fuck out! I liked them better than the main act.

  • Well, I guess it's just my problem then. The singer's voice is very good, I guess I just thought the music sounded a little too "3-chord" rock for me. They sure played loud and moved around a lot...but for some reason their 45 minute set felt like twice that to me. No idea. To each their own I suppose. Sorry if I came off as a jerk.

  • You didn't come off as a jerk at all! I was just adding my two cents. :)

  • I saw them open for Andrew Bird, too. And I agree at times they were a little 3-chord, but I didn't think they were dull. To me they were a good reliable rock band, bringing out hard and loud music. I was really feeling it.

I went to Andrew's show from 2 years ago, and the opening act was really dull. I think it was some woman with an acoustic guitar. So Heartless Bastards was definitely an improvement.

  • Back-up harmonies would really set this song off. The Sommatone amp lead guitarist uses sounds awsome!

  • Mark Nathan is the lead guitarist, who used to be the engineer for The Heartless Bastards. I work at the studio he used to work at (until the band gave him the lead spot after losing their other guy) and I must say, he has an ear for tone. If only he could do some harmonies for these guys.

    Truly amazing engineer and musician.

  • Bad ass. This generation's Pretenders perhaps?

  • Thank God for the Bastards!!!! I saw this episode and was blown away!! I think this band is the best hard rock band out there. They are definetely a breathe of fresh air. Keep it coming Bastards!!! Rock on

  • Mark Nathan is the groups fourth member.

  • Did the HB's add a fourth member, or was that cat on guitar just for the TV performance?

Keep up the fantastic work, Bastards!!

  • discovered the mountain like yesterday

    thanks for the music

  • Loved this performance! I agree with you, Dave and Paul were in their own little Antone's world. But it was great of Dave to have HB's on the show and to give them such exposure.

  • I wish I could find the lyrics to this song. Love it though.

  • Hey, did you guys find Dave and Paul's insistence on plugging Austin & Antone's rude (and/or clumsy)? Was there some miscommunication between the show's people and the band before the show? Thanks.

  • Can't go wrong with this band.

  • Excellent sounding group! I'm suret we'll be hearing a lot more from them.

  • This album is amazing. Go get it!

  • Great band, definitely got somethin somethin!

  • Love this song! and the band (:

  • Cincinnati!

  • missed the performance last night on letterman, glad to see it's up! awesome performance, good to see letterman talk to the band for a few seconds rather than just shake their hands and say "heartless bastards, ladies and gentlemen, we'll be right back!"

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • At last! MUSIC!!!

  • erika looks like she could be right off the pretenders II album cover ... in homage to chrissie hynde? daytonians done good.

  • WOOT!

    Cincinnati!!!

  • This is what it is all about. The real damn thing. To the top!!

  • I thought you guys were from Dayton. But, perhaps some of the band is out of Cincinnati....?
