  • Saddening. Here I see fans of barbaric "metal" comparing their filth to the grandeur of Baroque and Classical music. They have nothing in common. Its a disgrace to even compare good music as "Classical" and "Baroque" to such lowly filth as metal.

  • @ModellMeister "Barbaric metal"? Oooh, I see, so you are one of the retrograde closed-up people who can't see the world past their eyes and think that they know what life is only because they use a couple of elegant words. Look, I'm not saying metal is perfect, it can also be just reckless noise, but a huge part of metal has a lot of components from classical music. Hell, it often even references it. And nowadays is one of the best kinds of music you can find. So, don't go calling it "filth".

  • Hmmm... Yes, I think I can headbang to this.

  • This was a really fabulous performance! I've worked on this piece myself, and it is really quite difficult. How can you sneak those extra trills in there? I could barely keep the piece under control particularlly in the devlepment!

    Truly awesome!

  • Good Christ I love how she looks like she's not putting any effort into such an exquisite performance at all....she almost seems bored! Clearly a Master of the instrument...

  • Duke Dracula has approved this video! )))

  • shes props has a forearm of steel

  • It was okay. Too many flaws for me to truly enjoy the piece. Of course, she is still better than I will ever be.

  • @KevinKBeats Flaws, perhaps, but as Ralph Kirkpatrick (biographer of Scarlatti) once said "Playing Scarlatti 'carefully' is like going down a ski slope in an elevator: safe, but it lacks excitement, and negates the spirit of the music".

  • Very aggressiv playing.

  • ^

    Agreed |

  • This piece is awesome though she isnt a very good harpsichordist at all. Phrasing isnt there at all and shes bashing the harpsichord

  • @suffiice harpsichords have no dynamics......

  • @pilotoatomico harpsichords do have dynamics which are achieved by using specific registers and the speed and attack which one plays arpeggios creates dynamic

  • @pilotoatomico proof that you are wrong:

    watch?v=DvmCUx7NdLg

    watch?v=pEGISrDsmog

  • @HookedOnBach Then how come the four seasons always have the same volume on the harpsichord?

  • @pilotoatomico four seasons? Ehm. No comments...

  • @pilotoatomico and by the way - have you LISTENED to the two videos I posted? LISTEN and THINK...

  • groups/289986227711649/ anyone interest in metal and classical music especiallz baroque JOIN MY GROUP ON FACEBOOK "Early Music and Metal"

  • @suffiice Baroque and Metal is the best man.

  • ... and because of this Jens Johansson is owned now

  • What does the dial thing do that she turns before she begins?

  • @327Adam It sets the damper on or off so that key plucks either resound or are muted. Professional harpsichordists please correct me if I'm wrong.

  • I think the harpsichord is the best instrument it kinda like a guitar but with keys

  • damn good. :)

  • she's playing like a pianist.

  • If you want a good mix of metal and classical Apocalyptica is a good way to go :P

  • @dreadhead07UK

Not really, Apocalyptica is a terrible example and they're not very good.

  • She will live forever in Heaven! A modern virtuosos.

  • PIPA MIDDLETON SWEETS

  • Thought she was gonna break the harpsichord =S

  • she makes a few mistakes, but it's still really good.

  • At first, I thought it it was Dream Theatre.

  • Thankyou so much for this recording.I was absolutely thrilled when i heard it and wanted to play it on the harpsichord so much. Above is a recording I made using my Roland recorder.I would love to know what you think of it.Love from Wales

  • If people think that this piece of amazingness is nothing but talent, they are deluded.

This. This is due to the insane amount of practice that one could need to achieve this sort of playing. You can tell just by looking at her fingers and forearms.

    Quite simply, amazing. Just amazing.

  • @ThinlyCut90 Thanks

  • metal \m/

  • I might sound uninformed for asking this, but why is the body of the harpsichord so high, i.e. why does she stand to play it versus sit down? Does it have to do with the speed at which one plays a harpsichord, so she can play the keys with more force if she's standing? Halp.

  • @PRC1972 I've wondered that also. I don't think there is any particular reason (related to musical practice); it's just the way keyboard music was commonly played until the 18th century. There may be some more or less arbitrary (historical/cultural) reason I'm unaware of.

  • Say what you like about "that's not talent" that kind of playing requires a LOT more than 27 hours a day practising scales and arpeggios!

  • that is not talent, that is aLOT of work. talent 10%, hard word 90%

  • that was MAJESIK!!!!!!@_@!

  • Wow! Faultless! Seeing someone play like this makes me wish I'd practised my scales all those years ago! :-(

  • wow that is completely crazy.

    That is talent!!

  • Stupdendous! Many thanks for this!

  • sensational tone! what an amazing instrument!

  • She's God's musical Angel!

  • My first exposure to the harpisochord was Rick Wakeman's "Cans and Brahms" on Yes's 1971 album, "Fragile'.

I've always loved the sound of the instrument, which is much brighter and crisper than the piano's thudding notes. Anything played on a harpischord tends to sound better than on a piano.

  • i live and die metal, but this is amazing.

  • I like how more than half the views on classical/baroque videos come from us metalheads

  • @Metalflamme why?

  • @Metalflamme of course is there anything more epic than heavy metal and classical music

  • @Metalflamme Lol well is it surprising? To me metal is classical played through a marshall stack. Thats how close they are to each other

  • that is a beautiful instrument , how much, im guessing 58,000

  • @30inventionman Naw, probably more. My mother owns a Steinway full-sized grand piano for about $100,000 in today's money. Harpsichords are usually priced higher, because few people play them anymore. Depending on the company, I'd say close to $100k for this.

  • Dios mío! creo haberme olvidado de respirar durante 3,14 min... estoy sin aliento... es fantástica!

  • Holy Shit!!!! Is she human??? Awesome.

  • are there any Stratovarius fans here???

  • She's a virtuoso's goddess! Miracles do exists.

  • totally sounds like metal to me xD

  • i do that 2 her pussy and asshole w/ my fingers

  • i want one!!!!

  • Is it me, or is she dragging at a few points?

  • That is BAD ASS. XD I love this! :)

  • I keep thinking of the soundtrack from some old Nintendo 8-Bit game. Adventures of Lolo? Tetris?

  • when did youtube get a speed up function? and how the hell do i turn it off!

  • *aplausos*

  • Scarlatti was brilliant

  • She's really short.

  • can someone give me the score of this music please?

  • amazing

  • Freat forcefulness.

But I wish there were also some slowdowns and pauses, accentuating the forceful parts. It would make it even more quirky.

All-through-forceful is not as interesting as playing with that forcefulness.

  • HA! The look on her face :D

  • this was the best performance i;ve ever seen

  • i LOVE it, its amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :O the harpischord is my favourite instrument

  • Comment removed

  • whoa...

  • i've seen like 20 executions of it,, faster, slower same speed,, but idk why her execution just transports me in to the past,,, my favorite and i think the best ejecution of this sonata

  • FAWKING HARDCORE METAL, AYE!

  • I could see necrophagist playing something like this. I think metal fans and classical fans should unite seriously

  • @ablougabla i agree with you

  • @ablougabla and that's why symphonic metal and melodic metal exists my friend

  • @ablougabla few rockers have technique and knowledge to play something like this. They will have to study hard.

  • @dosergiobr yet many professional keyboard players in death metal bands play stuff like this. try opeth or children of bodom for example...then there are also mannnnny progressive rock keyboardists like keith emerson, rick wakeman, or jordan rudess who could easily play stuff like this..(although jordan rudess studied at julliard when he was 9)

  • @ablougabla metal is very tecnical like classical, jet your comment seems like cynical. but they have already united neo-classic

  • @ablougabla I think that would bring about the end times. Haha Or everybody would have a heart attack from sheer amazingness.

  • @ablougabla agreed

  • @ablougabla thus why malice mizer was definitely one of the best bands of all time

  • @ablougabla finish metal usually incorporates a lot of classical :P

  • @ablougabla Necrophagist?? with a Harpisochord?? My god... that may just be crazy enough to work!!

  • @ablougabla Yngwie Malmsteen sort of did it already. Metal is not as dynamic is Baroque music. And this is coming from a metalhead

  • Can someone pass me the score of this music please?

  • :-O

  • Wow, that is one TALL Harpsichord!

I think this the first one I've ever seen where you have to stand up to play it.

  • Reminds me of Castlevania.

  • Yes, she can utilise and advertise her abilities to play this instrument well. No, she cannot use those for a more enjoyable and three dimensional piece of music.

  • yes, she makes a few subtle mistakes, but nonetheless wonderful to watch and listen

  • one word: phenomenal.

  • " Yes, she is good but, behind her i think is the queen of spain. "

  • Did anyone catch a mistake?

  • @ThatWhuzYesteday I heard loads of duff notes in that. She must have fat fingers :)

  • @ThatWhuzYesteday About 20 missed notes? yeah.

  • This amazing that is faster than can play

  • Dracula just got turned on

  • @NEXutTORUSramenMETAL So did I.

  • does anyone else find this shit creepy.

  • If I did that, my hands would need amputations

  • that lady's old

  • @skiballsam you will be too. and won't be as great.

  • @tmsling im sorry im not trying to be mean i was just stating facts

  • @skiballsam Sorry, I couldn't hear your tone. lol.

  • @tmsling ya i couldnt either :P

  • @skiballsam forgive me.

  • Harpsichord > Piano.

  • this is sweet!!!

  • This instrument is so amazing

  • oh my...! o_o

  • Beautiful performance!! The harpsichord is often overlooked as just being a cousin of the piano, when it truly is an amazing instrument. Great job!

  • 49 people don't not know what real music is.

  • Like a boss

  • @EvilDudeoftheDead you make my week, thank you very much

  • Dayum.... 0_0

  • Damn she can shred.

  • one of the most creepiest sound IMO.

  • I agree, both music and the playing is just amazing. I never heard (and I am just 58YO) a player and elegant lady like her. Under which label I can buy her CD's? Better if i can find them autograped. I have been listening this Mrs Elaine's Paganini performance for months again and again.Cheers from Montreal.

  • Wait a minute I've been told (and have seen) that harpsichords operate whereby if you press any of the bottom keys, the top keys are also "played", but if you play the top keys, only those are played. But in this video, she only plays the bottom but the top keys are not moving. Pleas could someone correct my misguided information?

  • I love this, it sounds so haunting yet so inricate and pretty, reminds me of very dramatic, romantic and gothis settings, like Marie Antoinette dancing insainly while her castle is one fire

  • I'm gonna be all controversial and say I'm not a big fan of this. Yes, the player is enormously skilled. She plays lightning fast. But in the end, that's all there is to this video, a skilled player playing very fast arpeggios. There doesn't seem to be much emotion to it otherwise.

I'll go further, in a way, this is the harpsichord equivalent of a metal lead guitarist, they both basically just show off their skills on their instrument. Yes, they're skilled, but that's all there is to it.

  • @FreaknFreddy Well on a harpsichord you can't exactly play many dynamics because when you press on a key on the instrument, the strings are plucked which gives them the unique sound. There is emotion to this, but you could play it on a piano and get more emotion from it because it has more of a dynamic range. Just understand harpsichords can't play very soft.

  • @FreaknFreddy I'm not a big fan of this either. As I listened to this I could tell that she was very skilled, but I also knew that I didn't like what I was hearing. Whether that's because the harpsichord lacks the emotional punch provided by dynamic range or because there wasn't really a discernible melody, just very fast arpeggios. Or it could be because I just don't like the way the instrument sounds. It sounds too harsh to my ears.

  • @stevematt12 oh you poor boy...

  • This reminds me of the Warcraft 2 Orc Campaign Music.. just saying.

  • agreed with that coment, piano somethines sounds flat (except when bethoven used to play'em xDDD) but this harpsichord is amazing (and really fast, but soooo harmonic, the arpeggios and crescendos really impress me)

  • Harpsichords are so forgotten. And they're waaay too expensive.

  • She must be one heck of a computer typist!!! She makes hackers look HORRIBLE at her rate.

Excellent performance!!! Thumbs up from me!

  • She lays it very well but i have one thing she could improve:D

Dont knock the gropes so hard :D That isn`t good for the instrument and it would sound better, when she plays it soft :D

  • Needs double kick drumming.

  • She's awesome!

  • Wow, shes hitting those notes hard, i can hear the impact...

  • Excellent.

  • This was the equivalent of heavy metal in da old times, like hair metal bands, they also wore them wigs. thumbs up if you agree.

  • This is one of the last blazing fast sonatas he wrote in the minor! Awesome performance!

  • she reminds me of that one chik from Adams Family....

  • JESUS H CHRIST!

    god status achieved.

  • WEESNAW HARPSICHORD :3

  • LIKE A BOSS

  • Thats like so fast, like how does she even do it?

  • @98765432311 Studying 8hr/day, 7day/week.

  • Oh my god

  • Amazing video. I have a friend who's name is Vedad Pezer, he plays harpsichord and piano, if you could give him a listen and then a comment or suggestion it would be appreciated, i have a video of him on my profile playing a song check it out!

  • When you have this for homework, life is great.

  • is this Marie Claire Alain under influence of extacy? In all respect...this is more like playing pianoforte on a harpsicord. She should have done this on a piano. Using 200% less force to press the keyswould not deprove the performance. Ganz im gegenteil.

  • Bravo!!

  • The two top comments were posted by nerds...oh wait, but I'm here too...damn.

  • @MrMastershake2001 Hahahaaha

  • Faltou um kick de fundo marcando...

  • Breathtaking performance. I am in awe. I studied with Kenneth Gilbert many years ago in Canada when there virtually no harpsichordists. After more than 40 years away ... I'm now astonished to see the largesse of harpsichords, harpsichord music and wonderful performers. And this lovely lady is a gem .... bringing these wonderful pieces alive again.

And for some reason, I like the standing posture too .... the first time I have ever seen it.

  • bravo

  • u can't seat while playing this wow!

  • @slaytesics then why waste your time to search a video and comment on it?? Slow much

  • Damn...I wish i had a harpsicord

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • i hate harpsichord.

  • @slaytesics listen to the performance of the older generation harpsicordists. It lacks the agression of this generation.Just listen to the piece on my site performed by gustaf Leonhardt. You might hate the instrument a bit less. Let my know here, so others read it too.

  • @pierrecharles1 the instrument just sounds awful to me, I did not come here by free will. I enjoy piano much more. (and orchestra, I am a composer!)

  • @slaytesics Not of your own free will? Even if someone hit you with a harpsichord piece sneak attack, you sure commented of your own accord. Please, feel free will to leave.

  • @SheetMusicThemes Don't worry, I think I found something I like with harpsichord.

  • @pierrecharles1 Thank you, I just listened to the goldberg variations, very pretty/

  • Screwup in 1:01
