  • Wow, this song is sick! Its weird, i never really payed too much attention to this song before when i first heard it, maybe because i was too busy getting my ass handed to me by Saruin...

  • Ah, the start of this song.... Saruin emrging from his weird new coccoon body thing: "RRRRAAAAAAAAGH!" Half way through the battle: "If you beg, I may consider sparing you." And Albert says: "NEVER!"... if there was ever a final boss theme more epic than this, I never heard it.

  • anyone know the bpm of this song? I think there are multiple sections with different bpms in the beginning

  • "activating arcane force 5!: GEO NOVA!!!!!" IF ANYONE GETS THIS REFERECE AND HOW PERFECT THIS SONG IS WITH IT YOU ARE LEET!

  • This music makes me wanna kill a god.

  • i came here because the guy composed over the limit from drummania/GF >_>

  • most epic rock battle song evar heard o.o

  • Oh, and anyone who has not played Romancing Saga for PS2 should, I feel that Square Enix is departing from that "golden age" when they were still Squaresoft. Perhaps I just tend to over-romanticize my memories of gaming as a teen, but...

  • @smitc21 your not overdoing anything pretty much everybody has sold out these days not just square enix and not just video games its like that for tv movies and music too people who make these things dont care about artistry or making the best product anymore most of them only care about money

  • Romancing Saga... I wrote a review on Amazon, very positive... music like this had its part to play in that overall picture. This, the "minion's theme" which has a latin feel, and the "Death battle," which was awesome... not to mention that most of the characters have their own theme song AND, on top of all that, the theme song of the game itself, "Menuet," is very good.

  • Listening to this is like getting beat with the epic stick for 6 mins.

  • @GeneralMcNuggs I think you mean the epic hammer. - however i agree

  • Insanely epic

  • BEST RPG in all of PS2 history AMIRITE? ;) seriously tho hate SONY for having PS3 Slims not backwards compatible...now my CD is just a momento until i can find a way to play it again...but yeah SONY isnt gettin my money to buy another PS2 fuck that....oh and the battle with DEATH is just as intense as this one...if anything better imo so check that one out too :)

  • @shadowcrazy

BEST SERIES OF RPG ALL TIME. Back in the day in SNE, This game was way ahead of FF series and DQs...

  • 6 people haven't ever won an epic battle...

  • I tried playing this game but could not figure out what in the world I was doing, or where the enemy was. I just chalked it up to me being a moron as usual. I always loved the main theme and all of the other music that I heard from it.

  • Why does this song have to be so awesome?

  • This song goes all out. fuck yeah

  • i have a rom of the snes game, but it's in Japanese, can anybody tell me if this is a good game, cause it's kinda hard to navigate thru an RPG menu when you can't understand it.

  • When i heard this music in the game I was like I'm gonna lose...and I did >.>

  • Now this is what i call of fucking Heavy-Electronic-Metal

    This makes my ears melt.

  • undere powerazez

  • hmm where the hell have I heard this one before? I'm sure maybee someone used it for their Fraxy boss but witch one? hmmm

  • While we all have our differences in opinion about how which song is more awesome in this particular game, it cannot be ignored that the entire soundtrack for Romancing Saga Minstrel Song is in a league of its own, instead of saying "Oh Passionate Rhythm is superb" or "Written Invitation to Death owns all", how about we just say "Romancing Saga Minstrel Song was one of the best video game experiences ever."

  • Tsuyoshi Sekito helped make this song too : D

  • everyday I regret selling this game. It was always a nice paced game that allowed you to just casually make your way threw the game and actually just sit back and enjoy it.

  • This goes beyond Epic

  • This music would be epic for ESPN Football highlights

  • I love themes like this. They seem to get the blood pumping, IMO. It just makes me want to beat the boss even more.

  • This battle was a pain in the ASS. No- its BEYOND a pain in the ASS. I think its the hardest battle anyone could posibly encounter in the entire RPG universe! I followed some stratagy guides, and I think I tried over 30 times before I said "Fuck this- I wanna see the ending- I'm cheating!" and finaly beat Saruin with cheats (Infinite HP and LP) He was all like "Why the HELL can I not kill you? Why are you still standing? I'm a muthafucking GOD!!"

  • Man, that shit is hardcore!

  • WOOO,I LIKE IT!!!

  • n_n

  • I like the original better, wish I could find it

  • i love how it goes through several solos, rofl...so epic

  • I'm surprised the battle with Death isn't on your list...I definitely thought it was the best battle theme in the game. It definitely made you feel like you were fighting the lord of the Underworld.

  • The Battle with Death is definitly underrated. That boss battle was so epic, I cried after beating him.

  • Nobuo Uematsu and Motoi Sakuraba are nothing compared to Kenji Ito pce

  • not agree, i think uematsu-san and kenji-ito have a same level of epicness, just in different fact of styles.

  • You cannot begin to compare them. Kenji Ito is the master of epic battle theme, but Motoi Sakuraba is a monster in orchestral / techno / rock theme. Nobuo Uematsu is just awesome in some OSTs, like the FF6 one, he's a master of rhythm and full composition.

  • @Maggeus

Yeah, of course. I just personally prefer Kenjis style over Motois and Nobuos.

  • I bought the game for this very song.

No exaggerating. The games also seems to rock hard though!!

  • Criteria for an epic final boss theme: Being able to put the player into a sense of wanting to drop the final boss dead for the sake of tomorrow.

    This song: Passed, beyond passed.

  • Damn, this song almost too good for a RPG. not even the FF series have had such a geat battle theme like this!

  • I used to love all the saga game until they reach part 3 in the ps system

  • It's good to see love for this game. I remember reviews placing it at 2/5, but the game is actually quite fun and the music rocks...good for any SaGa fan.

  • Wow.. this track rocks!

  • 1:54 my favorite part

    THIS SONG RULES!!!!!!!!!

  • This song pumps the boss up as much as it does you, he kicked my ass first time xD

  • Can't ... stop ... headbanging

    *favs*

  • I've never played the game with this song.... but this song makes me have so much chills creeping on my back that the dude or boss who is meant to go down will go down and he will go down real hard :D Epic Song!

  • ....this is epic.... no, srsly, it's really REALLY fucking epic!! XD

It's like symphonic metal-ish... I love it! lol

  • You'd have to be insane or not like rock-type music to not like this piece of Win-Sauce-Covered-Hunk-of-Grade-S-Epic-Win:D

  • @stillprince yeah FUCK! its really EPICCCCCCCCCCC.

  • Holy Shit!!! O.o NICE!!!

  • The song is really that nice, and it becomes epic in the battle. It just fits so perfectly. Youtube the battle and you will see!

  • I think this is the best damn song I ever heard in a game. A lot of Romancing SaGas battle music were just amazing. When I first heard this song, my jaw completely dropped no joke. Imo all the SaGa games has really good music. Yes, all.

  • nicee

  • faster version of #93 Revelations: Persona

  • Friggin' hard game, even with cheats.

  • this game music really is good

  • I never played this but the song makes me want to get or play it cuz it sounds hot

  • should have been 1 in my opinion

  • The Minstrel has a thing for heavy metal. ;)

Anyone ever have a Game Over with the Minstrel in the party? He also gets back up. I never could figure out why until near the end(Light Path of the three ways to find Saruin).

  • @skyknightdragon

I was floored, too. Best plot element ever, that damn Minstrel.

Its lampshaded so often, too. And to think he guides you no matter what path you take too...

  • This song is indeed on Saga Frontier for the PSX, though I'll be darned if I can remember witch of the seven final bosses it is:)

  • Finally power metal like battle BGMs in a RPG!! With DOUBLEBASS AND GUITAR SOLO. Omg. I went fapping after I heard the Minstrel Song Soundtrack for the first time. Thanks Ito! You create the most intense battle music. <3

But Battle 2 (Courage and Pride From the Heart) of the original FF Adventure (GB) is my personal #1 for all time. I fucking paused the game for hours to listen to the theme which came out of that crappy little GB box.

  • Agreed.

  • I would've prefered A "Challenge to God -Four Guardian Kings Battle-" instead but this is still pretty good.

  • Hey, this song is remixed differently in Saga Frontier for PSone! It's the final boss in Asellus's story! Check it out!

  • Death's Song and the 4 Great God song is better imo lol

this song reminds me of SaGa Frontier songs :)

  • Damnit! why does every RS final boss have to be hard as hell! RS3 was so hard the first time through, and from the responses here, Saruin looks to be about the same if not harder! ARGH! I LOVE CHALLENGES!

  • Actually around all Saga Final bosses. 3 was the easiest, the most deadly of them was RS 2's 7 heroes followed by Saruin.

  • I can agree no more man.

  • The best video game song I've ever heard.

  • Great theme! If u like it go see Red or Asselus Final Battle theme from Saga Frontier made by Kenji Ito. They are also great!!!

  • Oh dear good god, this battle. It took me 70 minutes to freaking beat Saruin (I didn't go after Overdrive), and there were plenty of rounds where I just had all 5 characters heal...

I always liked the regular battle theme from this game best, myself. That, and the one for Saruin's first half.

  • I've never heard a song like this.

  • This is quite possibly the absolute greatest final battle theme ever composed. Kenji Ito is the most amazing composer when it comes to battle themes, imo.

  • I think he's too much underrated too ! This soundtrack is really epic.

  • YES!! I SO agree with you on this one. Excellent pick!

  • Hmm The SaGa series. In my opinion the battle system was a lot better then getting exp for leveling up. For once your actions determine what stats go up.

  • I would have picked Challenge to God ~Four Guardian Kings Battle~ but really, any SaGa battle theme being in the top 10 is a no-brainer.

  • I agree completely

  • I preffer Written Invitation to Death and Passionate Rhythm.

    Its a great song though

  • i think passionate rhythm is a much better choice than this from this game

  • This battle theme actually made me want to try out the Romancing SaGa, so awesome!

  • I never played this game but I played the original Romancing Saga for the Super Famicom. After hearing the original, hearing this version is awesome:)

  • Wait. I think the battle theme for the four elemental monsters was better than this one. But this theme is intense, it really puts you into high gear as the final battle is INSANELY hard if you don't equip yourself with the best techs and magics.

  • Totally agree with you on this one. But one can't completely understand how really awesome this song is if they don't play the game. The song is just perfect to the battle it is played. And nice list!

  • I really loved this game awesome choice!

  • Battle with death (from this game) is some of my favorite battle themes ever... but this has its great moments too.

  • Good choice for the top 10. However, I personally prefer the original's version of this song better.

  • awesome song!

  • Damn, I think you hit all my favorite music by now, I cant think of what could be in the top spot....unless....is it?

"This is sickining! you all sound like pages from a self-help book!"

  • Wow, number 1 is coming up soon. It better be good, hehe =)

  • Is Romancing Saga or the PS2 any good?

Have been a bit intrested in the Saga series!

  • Saga series have always been particulars games, different to others.

About this game I agree with blue. Also, the replay value is really high

  • I don't particularly like the battle system of SaGa games. But they should probably be considered by RPG players. For one thing, if you recall, Final Fantasy II on the NEShad a different system than the rest

  • ...I didn't finish my typing... Anyway...The system of FFII seems to have been continued in SaGa games.

  • @Redfoxe Yes this game is very good. It's a very unique and underated game. It's a whole game where you can do whatever after the character's introduction. The battle system is kinda like Grandia 2&3. Field wise is like playing a MMORPG, Plot is ok, Lots of characters, Music is fantasic! (Also better look up a faq so you don't miss great stuff)
