  • sounds like Morten Harkett

  • I just checked out all the CD's of the "Play my music" series 1 'til 25 (a series from the end 80's) but it's none of the songs either :-)

  • Big sur - Please stay / Continental mianiatures - Stay awhile / Larry Page - Stay awhile / Travaganza - Stay with me / Temiz - Don't leave ....... I'll keep trying :-)

  • All from 1984-1987: Tunnel vision - Don't go away / Bridge - Don't go, please stay / Studio sex - Please don't go / John Mark - Stay / Lions & ghosts - Stay / Romance at eleven - Stay / Shining - Stay for a while / Johan Daansen - Deadly game (Stay with me) / 5CV - Stay with me

  • There is a group from Norway called "Man maid" who sang "Stay" as well. Year:1986 Label:RCA, the same label as Tom Robinson :-)

  • In the mid-80's there was a hitsingle in the Austrian charts called "Stay" by "Espresso". Maybe that's the one, I hope so :-)

  • @johnsteerling Sorry, it was "Say" and not "Stay". I'll keep looking :-)

  • Bugger, I was so hoping this one would have been solved by now, surely someone must know what it is? Have you tried sending it to radio stations in the UK or Germany to see if they may know what it was? Shame really as it's a great little track, sadly even Shazam can't identify this one.

I just hope we can find out who this is & the name of the song, eventually

  • Have you tried this one? A band from Australia (1987):

I Hear An Army – Second Time Around

  • @johnsteerling

Tried and discounted after I contacted someone with a copy of this song to ask them. Keep looking everyone!

  • @johnsteerling /watch?v=fXPDSDkhOoY&feature=socblog_ti

    nope

  • Still searching??? I hope it gets solved in my lifetime!

  • Hello! A friend of mine knows this song! He toured Germany in the fall of 1986 and this was on the radio! I realize you have been searching for it for a long time so I thought I would come here to share what he says. He doesn't think it is by Modern Vision as many think. He thinks the band was called something like 'Kero's Final Stand' or 'Last Stand' or something similar (although I cannot find ANYTHING about a band with that name online, nor was there an official release.) find a full version!

  • @ersatzear Hear "Last Stand - Just A Number" and doubt it...

  • Try Mike and the Mechanics

The song "Silent running" sounds a bit like this one

  • hey giantballoon--i checked with the owner of Eden's Flipside on discogs.com--sorry man its not it--

  • Eden's album/cassette "Flipside" seems to have become extremely rare, and I couldn't find it on Ebay, Amazon etc., but in the forum of the website "killyourpetpuppy.co.uk" someone with the name "jinkster" (news/?p=410#comment-37843) mentioned that he owns this cassette and loves the music on it very much. Maybe he can help you to identify the unknown song.

  • On Discogs I found a band named "Eden" (from UK). In the year 1983 they published a cassette and an album with the title "Flipside". The 4th song on the b-side is "A Second Time Around". Additional Informations from Discogs: Style: Psychedelic rock, progr rock - Label: A Real Kavoom - Written by: Phil Pickering

  • Search it too,without resultat (((((

    Somebody reconized it ??

  • Almost 8 years and still no luck in solving this song.

  • When I heard this the first thing that poped into my head was the movie Some kind of wonderful....Beat so Lonely by Charlie Sexton

  • Comment removed

  • @Terascon Translation via Google translation: "A friend and professional musician (composer and recording studio owner) said that the opening could be because of certain deficiencies not a normal production, and it would act may be an early marketing of the German new wave group "Camouflage". These ranged in fact in 1986 the song contest of a German radio station a demo tape and won the first prize. It is probably looking at this song demo recording, whose title I do not know exist."

  • Hmm...sounds like Charlie Sexton, but the audio is a bit unclear. Good luck.

  • @chompychomps went to the movie Some kind of Wonderful first time I played the above song...have to agree with you...

  • @warnimontk He has to be the unsung new wave artist of the 80's. Who knows what he did? Perhaps an obscure soundtrack song that time forgot or ignored.

  • Trond Granlund - Stay The Night

Dave & Sugar - Stay With Me

David Essex - Stay With Me Baby

    Navel - Stay With Me

Twan and the Ri-Jo-Co's - Stay With Me

  • It might be Peter Murphy?

  • David Bowie?

  • @jlocnen hahaha, lol. It is most probably from some kind of demo tape or promotional tape that never made it big audience. That is we don't find any lyrics and stuff around nowadays...

  • Still no luck, eh? Sounds like there's enough of the song to make a full recording. It would be neat if someone covered it and filled in the "blanks" with skill and talent. I highly doubt a copyright claim would ever come of it, but if it did, it would be a blessing and put this 4+year mystery to rest once and for all!

  • Hahaha , At least no one, not even WMG cannot mute this audio cause copyrights...first they must find the author but this bit is too hard. XD

  • In our case, that would be really brilliant! Because that means they know the artist, thus ending this mystery once and for all.

  • hmm could be H20 but voice a little deeper or at least similar type band. not much of a help i know .i'll check some records but offhand it's what comes to mind

  • Sounds like a young David Hasselhoff.

  • I don't think so

  • Definitely not a native english speaking singer.

You must clarify first the country and secondly the year-84 OR 86.Compare the

side noise on the tape with other recorded

material to have a clue for the year and even the month, though this is applicable to short waves chiefly.Your search must be as narrow as for a definite month of the year.

I will try to help, but will be difficult.

  • I don't think it's Camouflage who sang this song. I now think it might be Peter Schilling.

  • I'm pretty sure it is neither of those bands.

  • I guess that it might be either of those two because the band & the artist i mentioned are both Germans.

  • I admire everyone's passion to search for this song's identity. It truly is awesome, add to the fact that this is a really amazing track, despite being a less than two minutes of clip only.

Such a mindblowing tune as well, because I strangely felt a chill down my spine when I first heard this.

  • Maybe "Camouflage." The German band that sounds like Depeche Mode. Their famous for their

    single: "The great commandment."

  • Its totally different style and vocal

  • I was gonna suggest Jeb Million, but I see he's already been eliminated. Oh well.

  • In my ears the singer sounds like David Bowie???But the music is not his style..

  • did you try contacting the stations?

    This is a tough one.

  • It may be "Listen to your heart" by Saga. It came out in 1985. I don't know for sure because I can't find the song anywhere.

  • I did a Google search for "Listen to your heart" by Saga and the lyrics are not the same as "Stay (The Second Time Around)"

Also "Listen to your heart" by Saga is here on youtube... do a quick search to hear it (youtube will not allow html links in the comments).

  • I think the song is being played at slower than original speed. Hence, the difficulty in identifying the band. It could possibly be "Saga" a band out of Canada.

  • Someone did take an mp3 of the song and speed it up... it did not sound good to me. I prefer this version.

  • I also think this is playing much slower than meant to. I played it like 10 percent faster and it sounds really good. But I don't have a clue about the artist.

  • The original seeker is Rene from Germany and the song Is from one of his old radio tapes from either 84 or 86 ?

He has a few other great tracks that have still gone unsolved, Maybe Giantballon could add some of Rene's other unknown songs to his youtube list.

  • the effort for trying to find this song is really touching. I wish you the best of luck to find this song and will try my best to help out.

  • That's awesome that there is an international effort to identify this song! I love the fact that people care about obscure music. I wonder who the original seeker is and why this short clip is so special to them.

  • It sounds really rough like a demo to me. It almost sounds like Al Corley, but before any vocal sweetening. Am I crazy? Plus he's an English-speaker who would have been big in Germany then.

  • could it be Iva davis. Icehouse

  • I thought it might be Icehouse as well, but It's not. I emailed the song clip to the web master for the Icehouse web site, he responded that he knows every song by Icehouse and this is not Icehouse.

  • To reiterate what somebody else said, this really does sound like an ending song to an 80s movie. Is there some way to search movie credits?

  • Sounds a little bit like A-HA.

  • Definitely not the A-Ha singer singing..

  • This is Quite possibly the most difficult unknown 80's New Wave track in the world to crack.

  • Have you already tried it at watzatsong?

  • Thanks, I wasn't aware of that site -- I just posted it there. I'll put the link in under the more info (to the right > )

  • Giantballoon, this sounds like a credits song at the end of a movie. I know it doesn't help much, sorry.

  • Please help me with name of my unknown song!!!

  • the song sounds good and so 80 s hope you find the name of the band would like to get it as part of my collection of 80 s I'm wondering if you can find it on someones list. like vh1 or richard blades hits. but then again you said they might have never been signed so that throws those ideas out.. the other alternative is to track down the radio station that aired it....they must have a list of songs an idea good luck.

  • I'll try.

  • Belgian synthpop band in the 80's, called "Modern Vision" released a 7" single called stay. No, I don't have a copy. Yes, good luck in verifying.

  • Good suggestion, but Modern Vision has been ruled out - verified by several people two years ago.

  • why, in youtube's name, didn't you just put in the music??? you already came up with the teaser anyway. oh, well...

  • I'm not sure I understand your question... Are you asking why I put the text into the video? What is a teaser (the information in the "about this video" section to the right of the video)?

  • I've been trying to figure out this band / song for 4+ years putting in a lot of time searching down leads like a lot of people, and I appreciate the effort so many people have gone through to try and figure out this song. Posting the mp3 embedded into the video was the only way I could get it up on youtube... if you don't want to see the text, don't look at the computer screen... if you want the mp3 in it's current and incomplete state, the links are in the "about this video" section.

  • This Song was released!!! I have here this Song before too in the year maybe 1985/86 on NDR Radiostation!!!

  • Unfortunately, this may well be someone's demo; someone who never got signed.....and this song may not have ever been released commercially.

  • Great,i have order this record! Its on the record "White & Torch"- "Miracle" the B-Side!!

  • Hi everyone,

Sorry -it's not White & Torch :( I was in White & Torch, and the B side to Miracle was Heartbeat but this is not Heartbeat. This isn't even one of our songs unfortunately.

  • Thanks Nebankh, oh well, we really thought this one was solved... I also received confrimation from Roy White of White & Torch that this is not their song... the search continues to identify "Stay (The Second Time Around)"

  • mystery has been solved. The song is called "Heartbeat" by "White & Torch".

  • That's great news. Can't wait to hear the complete song.

  • i think it is Cham CM - Second time around

  • Sorry, i didn't keep on reading..... but the fact is that this is killing me. I have sent an email to a radio, let's see what happens...

  • Cham CM was ruled out by Paul M. on 3/11/2003 - visit the link to spiritofradio . ca over to the right under "About this video" -- Paul M writes on 3/11/2003 "I just received the Cham cm cd single, and this song is not by this group. Cham cm is more like Dance/House."

    So it's not Cham CM

  • This is not Dagaband. I have their song Second Time Around and trust me, this is not it.

  • Thanks Linenul

  • The mystery has been solved. The band is Dagaband.

  • According to our thread on NWO I believe Dagaband was eliminated, but I'll be happy to be wrong. Are you sure it's Dagaband? Have you any information.

Yes, Dagaband has a song called "Second Time Around" from 1982 -- I found the record online at vinyltap . co . uk but as we found from searching, many bands have recorded songs with similar titles.

  • Was this the actual speed of the song? Because to me it sounds like the cassette wasn't spinning as fast as it was when it was recording when it was ripped to YouTube...It just sounds like it needs to be a little bit faster to be more natural.

  • Bobby, the audio is from an mp3 supplied by the original person that made it from their cassette recording. Until we find the name of the artist and song this is what we have to work with, and believe me, I wish we had the info.

  • Just wait for the inevitable DMCA takedown notice and see who filed the claim!

  • definitely not.

  • maybe peter murphy or his band bauhaus
