In Kentucky it's ver-sails, sorry. Not sure why that would bother anyone; after all Los Angeles isn't really pronounced "Loss An-gel-us" either... Probably because KY is in the South and they all think we're stupid down here.
@Arundodonax We don't think that people from the South are stupid (a large arm of my family lives in Arkansas). But since we live in Canada and speak French as our second tongue - the French pronunciation is our first instinct… and how most other non-Americans would say it.
It pained us to say Ver-Sails because we speak French, but in the heart of Kentucky the people who live there say it that way. If stopped to ask directions to Ver-Sigh, you would just get blank stares.
