The golden gate you go through to pull the lever (right at the beginning, 4:32) is locked. I don't know why, the quest marker is telling me to go to it, but the gate is locked! This is a serious WHATHAFACK moment for me.

I guess I was in such a hurry to get out of there that i didn't even realize it was there. I thought I would need to the elder scroll again. I didn't know it copied the info in the main mission. Well it was a bit of a confusion for me but I got the book and did the glitch to use it allot.

All you need to do is keep pressing the frist button (the one closest to the middle) until the cube that you placed in the machine lights up, then the buttons on the left side of the middle should light up, keep pressing them until the last light lights up. once that is pressed your done. :P -- LIKE THIS COMMENT TO HELP OTHERS.

@theruinedshadow4 Occasionaly he doesnt start the convo himself (if your on ps3 and dont have a save before his room u might have to restart sad to say) but he has a convo option about the dwarven city that should not be grayed out after 24 hours of waiting (after level 15) its about blackreach click that and try it hope this helped

I've done everything on the quest so far and I've even given the lexicon to Septimus. But apparently there was more to this, when I gave him the lexicon it didn't update the quest to harvest the blood or anything. So pretty much he still has the lexicon and theres nothing I can do. Help?

Ok so after I'm done with the puzzle I took the scroll and I left without the Lexicon now I'm trying to find the Tower of Mzark which makes me confused cuz I remember I discovered the tower of Mzark when I was doing the quest and it is so freaking hard to find.

@BillaPacific The Tower of Mzark is South of Dawnstar. Just open up your map, find Dawnstar and scroll Southwards. I think it's the only Dwemer ruin in that direction. On the map it's slightly above the area where the snowy region starts turning into a more temperate climate.

@DKeditss Read my previous comments. Short of it is that the gate he used in this video is opened only AFTER you've been into Alftand before. You enter Alftand through a cave the first time around and open the elevators inside.

So looking around online, here are some possible hiccups for people.

After giving the Lexicon to Septimus the quest doesn't advance. You need to be level 15 to advance this quest. After reaching 15 and waiting around a bit a courier will give you a message (the quest won't automatically update) to return to Septimus.

IF NOT then you've hit one of the possible bugs. If you are on console you might be screwed. PC users can use console commands to fix this. Search online for more info though.

@mrcarbine541 If you are below level 15 he won't continue the quest. Level up past 15 to continue on. After reaching 15 wait around a few days and a courier should deliver the next part of the quest, asking you to return to Septimus.

There is also a bug that breaks the quest if you returned the Lexicon to him before you reached level 15 or read the Elder Scroll. So if you hit 15 and no courier, you might be screwed. PS3 also has a bug where the courier never shows up.

Floor 1 Alftand Glacial Ruins: Elevator B (closed)

Floor 2 Alftand Animonculory: Elevator B (open)

Floor 3 Alftand Cathedral: Elevator A (open)

Floor 2, near the corpse of the Elf Girl has Elevator B open. You enter it to access Floor 1. While inside the elevator flip a switch. Elevator B now connects Floors 1 and 2.

Floor 3, in the area where the two human NPCs fight is the entrance to Elevator A. Use it to reach the surface.

Floor 2 has a small Falmer camp near the middle of the zone. There you find the corpse of the Elf girl Valie. You CANNOT miss this camp, it's right in the path you take to clear the dungeon. Right here is where you find the open elevator B door that leads to floor 1.

Floor 3, when you reach the cathedral, you will see Sulla and Umana fight to the death (right before entering Blackreach). Right behind them is the open door of elevator A that leads to the surface

After you give Septimus the transcribed Lexicon he will tell you that he will contact you in a while. This requires you to be level 15+. If you haven't been contacted again, you aren't the required level to continue the quest.

OR you went and read the Elder Scroll before returning it to Septimus. This causes a bug, and you can't continue.

Also, it doesn't matter whether you agree to help the Wretched Abyss or not. In the end you still get the Oghma Infinium.

This video is very missleading. That gate at 4:33 is open cuase his done the whole dungeon once already. Folow the arrow instead and u will get to the real entrance and when you have completed it all that gate will be open.

@MakeaStandJoinTeKlan The Wikia says that if you are not level 15 when you give him the cube, just get yourself to level 15 and a letter from the corier will come, and the quest will resume. However if you are a PS3 user, the bug will hinder the corier from giving you the letter, thus leaving you stuck no matter how many levels you get. If youre a PS3 user, reload an old file and start from there. I am not sure why the bug exists. If the patch can fix it, then so be it.
