  • well srry i didnt knw dayum i was just asking thats y srry no need to harass people over a song

  • i think joe took the song im on cold play side

  • @bUlLyGuRl1 Here's the problem you dumb fuck, Joe created the song in 2004, while Viva la Vida was created in 2008.

  • If Joe Satriani was anyone, he wouldn't have sued them. He's a piece of shit nobody compared to Coldplay.

  • @jedikman that peice of shit nobody is the most respected guitarist in the world.

  • I doubt Joe is gonna sue. He is to good for that. Coldplay should admit to at least being inspired by the song to make Viva la Vida.

  • @PIEgunz Joe did sue them.

  • It's not a question of " who copied who" Satriani was first by far, and he's also better. The real question is, how much to sue them for?

  • they didnt made it with purpose you dumbs, i dont like coldplay but you are blind if you dont see that a international band wouldnt copy a simple guitarrist!!

  • we all knew the day would come when every sane combination of music would be played but not when Joe Satriani releases his song in 2006 and coldplay in 2008 - the odds of that happening in such short period is seriously fucking unlikely - even thou i like coldplay and joe stariani - but it sounds like a rip off - other peoples songs should inspire you - not tempt you to just dress the song differently and put it out as your own.

  • sou mais joe satriani ele o melhor

  • screw it, coldplay's version is much better...

  • shit coldplay

  • Bands write notes that are from other songs and they dont even know it. Blaming the other band is just bull crap. COLDPLAY IS INNOCENT

  • i belive that mario´s song from the game mario word´s it was copy and no the song from joe satriani. try to play the coldply song 2 times and a half fast and make a compare..

  • the only part they have in common is those three notes, the guitar part and "rule the world"

  • bullllllshit. that dude shouldn't get a penny. how can you copyright such a piss easy riff? its like getting copyright on the word 'and', or sueing someone cos they played an 'e' chord in their tune after you.

    money grabbing ass pirate.

tell that yank prick to fuk off. could he extradite coldplay to the usa?! uk gettin more like that cuntry every day tho :(

  • @wyrda222 Huh, funny you should say that. Coldplay made millions of dollars off of that "piss easy riff". Let's say you make a song, and a band takes your main riff, makes crap loads of money off of it and tells you to fuck off. I bet you wouldn't be saying the same thing what so ever. And on top of that, Chris Martin is quoted as saying this "We're definitely good, but I don't think you can say we're that original. I regard us as being incredibly good plagiarists". Go ahead, google it.

  • @LNA3igD they made loads of money cos there's a lot of silly people with too much money to spend. good for them. not a lot you can do about it all really. copyright rights are immoral and against the teachings of the great ones

  • dont really give a shit if they sound alike i just wanna listen to his song

  • "Who copied Who" is a stupid question... Satriani's song came first so it's obvious he couldn't copy...

  • Satch wins.

  • Fúck Joe

  • joe is so making a fool of himself. He is an 80's out of of trend rock guitarist, coldplay is one of the best in the planet nowadays so who cares

  • @carecoito2 Best in the planet? They're good (and did a pretty good cover of Joe Satriani) but they're far from the best. And Joe Satriani is still a huge artist releasing great albums like Is There Love in Space?. I don't get why you would call him out of trend though...that just doesn't make sense.

  • @TatersChoice out of trend cos not many people listen to him. im sure he sells lots of records, but not to anybody I know at all. not saying hes not good, but lots of people have coldplay records. fuk i mean CDs. still living in the 80s!

  • @wyrda222 The reason for that is that Joe Satriani isn't in the mainstream. That doesn't mean he's not big, you just have to be really into music to know who he is. Coldplay just made it into the mainstream which makes it more popular. And how popular an artist is doesn't defend stealing his song.

  • @TatersChoice "really into music " you mean really into that type of music?

Music, and the world generally, would be nowhere without copying, learning, expanding, adapting AKA ripping off! I'm all for it.

Apparently when Patrick Stewart first saw Red Dwarf, the first thing he did was think of calling his lawyer. This was the same as when Chic first heard Rappers Delight.

Both went on to admit that they were wrong. Respect!

  • @wyrda222 You're endorsing stealing music? I have nothing more to say to you.

  • @TatersChoice I'm endorsing borrowing, adapting, learning, expanding and ripping off yes. stand and deliver your money or your life.

years ago a load of vinyl inner sleeves said 'home taping is killing music'. it didn't really though did it.

  • @wyrda222 "I'm endorsing adapting, learning, expanding and ripping off". I actually endorse the first three that you listed though because those involve creating you're own works or working on another's work in a way they endorse. Ripping off involves STEALING another's work without their permission. Not good. But learning and adapting is great for music. This is not that.

  • @TatersChoice Coldplay have, on purpose or not, adapted a riff to their song. I'm sure their fans love it, and the other guy loves his version. no big deal really there's much more bad in this world to worry about. Animals 'house of the rising son' is theft, nearly everything Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin did is theft, a lot of hip hop is theft etc. it's ALL GOOD cos it makes more people happy than not!

    OVER AND OUT!

    MU MU

  • @wyrda222 Good points. But, the ONLY thing that keeps your argument from being valid is that Joe Satriani clearly did not want his music to be ripped off. If he was okay with it and just said "yeah, it's pretty similar, but whatever" then I wouldn't really care.

  • @TatersChoice he doesn't give permission? that is irrelevant.

Like i said before Chic wanted to go to court first time they heard Rappers Delight. Then they saaw the light!

Even so, if someone produces something and makes it public, it gets in our heads, and that is then the property of owner of said head to do with as you like. Like if you want to keep something precious and unaltered you should keep it in your bedroom.

  • @wyrda222 But the problem is when credit isn't given at all. If I had a song that was stolen and made a profit from, I would wanna sue. End of story.

I'm gonna end this back-and-forth and let you have the last word if you so wish.

  • @TatersChoice OK thanks for admitting you're wrong and letting me have the last word. Stolen would mean if someone actually used your recording on an ad or something. a band doing a similar riff in a song isn't stealing! fuk knows why i'm on here i don't even like either artists! seee ya!

  • F*ck Coldplay!

  • It's all about attention and cash, nothing else.

  • uhhhh.......how did this spark a lawsuit? theres like 5 repeated chords used in both songs...wow....

  • at the exact same tempo and BPM, as well as the vocal melody matches satch's guitar.

  • I DONT LOVE COLDPLAY, THEY ACTUALLY KNOW HOW TO COPY A GOOD SONG!!! and you know it... :D

  • YOU. ARE. BRILLIANT.

  • I ALSO DONT LOVE COLDPLAY, AN THEY ACTUALLY KNOW HOW TO MAKE AN ENORMOUS PIECE OF COMERCIAL SHIT OUT OF A GOOD SONG!! and you know it... :D

  • Colplay sucks... and no they dont know how to write a good song... they know how to copy a good song and make into probably the worst song ever

  • "How on earth could Coldplay easily get their hands on it?"

are you retarded? they could search for tabs, its pretty easy to play someone else's song. think of all the bands that play covers. my friend plays guitar and he can listen to a song and learn to play it just by listening. so how on earth they did it, is pretty clear.

  • Obviously Coldplay copied Joe because how could Joe copy a song that wasn't even made Coldplay is bullcrap.

  • coldplay`s are fan of joe satriani it is the reason!

  • There is a similarity, sure, but I can't easily find them. I think Joe just wants some attention and cash, both of which he got. I don't like Joe, and I LOVE Coldplay, but I don't play favorites in Music. I think from the get go Joe ONLY wanted some fame and cash, and I'm dead serious here. I highly doubt he cared there was a slight difference. Besides, this is the 2nd time I heard of that song. How on earth could Coldplay easily get their hands on it?

Hard for me to find it... no hate intended

  • Coldplay is squalid band.

  • They're both good in different ways.

I feel like they're different enough... but this video is basically the first I've heard of either song. If I had both songs in full maybe I'd see differently, but at the moment they seem quite different to me.

  • indeed they do sound the same but there are only so many ways to go in the music world...

  • YOU are absolutely right

  • If you copy a song, and its shittier than the original, then you really suck at copying.

  • Ok, now Viva la vida was awesome, and you know it...=_=

  • listen Enanitos Verdes, Frances Limon (2002)...

  • well....coldplay had words in theirs...and the other guy didn't...rly. i don't think they stole it. their not stupid. If u steals songs, u'll always get caught. they just sound the same.

  • Unfortunately your comment is entirely contradictory. if it "sounds the same" then there is potentially copyright infringement. Since Satriani's song was written earlier (and released), then there is valid reasoning to suspect infringement. Just because there are no words in "If I Could Fly", doesn't mean the melody was infringed upon. This is also not an issue of which artist is more popular. It's about being ethical and giving credit where it is deserved.

  • i agree w/ that part. plenty of songs sound the same, It's not like they completly stole the song, I know tons of songs, that have parts they sound like another song, like. 1 song, i 4got the name, but in the begininng it sounds like Distrubia. I personally love Viva La Vida, and made it my theme song, (weird childhood dream of ruling the world) But, I just say they sound like each other. Like many other songs do. I'm sure Coldplay had no clue that this song was like theirs.

  • Are you retarded? If they SOUND THE SAME....say it again in your head and maybe the light bulb will go off.

  • r u a jackass for picking on a 14 year old girl?! BACK THE HELL OFF! I WAS TALKING TO THE OTHER PERSON!

  • ....psha.

  • 14 is old enough to realize that if they sound the same, then satriani's claim is right.

also, i dont know any 14 year olds with theme songs. you must be....cool :/

  • loads of songs sound the same, thats wat i'm saying.

i got bored. I had a weird dream of ruling the world once, and it stuck w/ me. I just like to have a theme song, its my favorite song ever. Can't help it.

  • Just cause coldplay might of copied joe doesn't mean joe is better coldplay. Coldplay is far more popular!!!

  • popularity isnt everything mate. AC/DC is more popular then dream theater and all acdc does is play the same 4 or 5 chords over and over again.

  • that's because monstrous displays of skill isn't really interesting to listen to

  • I dont know if anyone noticed. But there is a guitar break near the end of "lovers in Japan" twhat sounds very similar to the guitar break in key perry's "Hot N Cold" Maybe its just me... but did anyone else notice???

  • damn i did notice infact u could play that part together and itll actually fit

  • actually melodies are very very similar, but I don't know if there are basements for legal actions. The "suspeceted" parts seem to be short

  • Satriani wrote if I could fly in 2005- so if anyone copied anyone, Coldplay copied Satch... they do sound extraordinarily similar, however.

  • In your last question, the correct grammar is "Who copied whom?"

just thought i'd let you know.

    Thanks for the post.

  • I love Satch, and I can see where he's coming from, but I think it was likely a coincidence... I don't think Coldplay knowingly copied him...

  • Comment removed

  • hahahahahaha

  • Dude, you gotta tell me what kind of mushrooms you're on.. Maan i would love getting the same kick.. talking to rocks 'n'stuff.. dats cool u nou..!

  • you wouldn't say that if the shoe were on the other foot.

  • And im sure in the history of music before these two songs NOONE ever used those particular notes or chord progressions in that order or succession...

  • The tempo is very close and the chords change at a near time to each other, even if they did take the melody from Satch then he was a little petty in taking it to court. Hope their next album won't have a 'Satch Boogie' feel to it, otherwise they're fucked..

  • Fuck Coldplay.

  • Not plagio. Coincidence.

  • god knows how many classic/new rock songs use the cord progression D-C-G...

Some off the top of my head...

    Sweet Home Alabama

Hey Hey What Can I Do - Led Zep

    Werewolves of London

Can't You See- Marshall Tucker Band

So who gives a fuck, honestly? All music/musicians are influenced by the songs and styles of other artists. I personally happen to like Coldplay's version better. Even if some parts sound the same, both songs represent the style of their artists perfectly.

  • I totally agree. Besides that, they're totally different styles of music, and appeal to different audiences, so it's totally pointless to fight about it.

  • it's a bit like Cezanne trying to sue Picasso for using oll piant, brushes and the colour blue, just like he did.

The musical phrase is so short 9 and trivial) that the idea of copyright is absurd.

What next? Will someone copyright all 88 notes of the piano and demand that the rest of us invent our own notes????

  • I see your point, but im guessing not many people know Cezanne.

  • Good point, A lot of songs use the same chords as an other song...

  • @futrubz i see your point, but that's a long ass musical phrase.

  • Anone can hear that the two songs don't SOUND anything like each other. Cold Play probably can show 100 songs that have the same tempo/chords. They are two different songs. The "guitar theory" types are trying to cash in on accidential elements that are on paper, but no normal person can hear.
