  • I converted my 5hp Briggs go cart motor into a go devil mud motor... Thats a good set up for duck hunting with a 10" jon boat

  • @zoama Engines tend to make a little noise when they are running...

  • Nice!

  • Looks like Indian or Banana River to me

  • i have one and there not bad little motors for the price

and will run for ever and then some

the only problem in time is dry rot will screw with the guvnor tube after about 5 years you replace it for a few $ and run it for a another 5 years

but it is no replacement for my 1993 twin cylinder Evinrude 9.9 t2 that little bastard child will flat scream behind a 14' johnboat and runs like new to this day

  • i think its tome for a new camera

  • wat song?

  • 16.1 mph on my 14 ft footer. with just me and a half tank of gas. To those of you asking about this being a good duck hunting motor... They also make this motor in camo (at least they did when I bought mine 2 years ago). This really is an awesome motor. Compare it to a Merc 4 stroke that is 1000 dollars more, heavier, and harder to maintain.... I take the Briggs every time.

  • @Squoshua17 - Any thought on why I have such a hard starting this motor? Runs great once it's started...after pulling on it for 10min. I got caught up in some weeds and stalled the engine; took almost 30min to restart the engine. Great motor when it runs!!

  • @ph3nology -- I've had similar issues with mine like your describing. When this happens it is a fuel issue either too much or too little. I've had similar issues where i flooded it and it wouldn't start and i've had issues where i needed to choke it. once the motor is warmed up good it usually starts fine on one or two pulls. I usually crank it when i'm unhooking my boat so its good and hot when i launch. Can't do this with water cooled motors!!! lol

  • @ph3nology I had a problem with mine where it would start (with some difficulty), but after warming up, if you stopped it you couldn't restart until it cooled off. Sometimes it would stop running on its own - in the middle of nowhere. Thanks to the 2 guys that towed me back to the boat launch! It turned out to be a faulty magneto coil. Runs fine now.

  • its to bad they cant be run salt water

  • Honestly your not supposed to ride it in salt water. But here in Daytona beach that have a nice little island called disappearing island in which is right in ponce inlet from the ocean. I have ran this motor numerous times out there always followed by a good cleaning.

  • I really like this video I like fishing - But I have a problem with a motor that I bought . It is a CHIEF 14.8cc - 7.5 horsepower but I need a cup for the corborator can you help!

  • Great video, love your dog, seems to be loving it...Engine look to be good too...:-)

  • I just bought one and I have a 10ft Lowe I am going to put it on.. I bet it will scoot pretty good. I am going to modify the exhaust though, probably use a s small exhaust system off of an old moped that should quite that dude down. I cant wait to hit it full throttle right into a stump lol.........the stump jumper will be the name of my boat lol

  • Thanks for posting the video. It's nice to see how the engine acts before I buy one. I just got a 12ft Jon flat bottom and it's only got a trolling motor. I'm going to put one of these 5hpBriggs on in. Gonna move the seat forward a couple ft and put and extension handle on the motor to help distribute the weight. Looks like that motor would make a 12ft fly. Just me and my dog too.

    Rock On Man.

    Good post

  • yall are cruisin pretty good, you could probally keep up with my 15hp evinrude.

  • LOL that dog is having a good old time.

  • do u think i can use it for duck hunting?won't it be to loud?

  • Its not too too loud as long as you don't have it wide open. This outboard sounds exactly like a lawnmower; however at idle speed its not loud at all. I'm assuming your not going to be wide open during the hunt so i would think this would suffice your needs just fine.

  • @clyddoudou well listen to mud buddys ya know. they are super loud but i dont thinks the ducks care

  • hey man how fast do you think you were going?? you look like 10-15

  • I would estimate around there give or take a little depending what i have in the boat. I'm planning on doing a test run this weekend with my GPS. I will post what the top speed is. Thanks for the comment.

  • I checked out the spec page at cabelas they can go up to 15mph on a small boat I bet I could get it to 20 mph with 20 bucks worth of stuff from my local small engine repair shop.

  • i love those motors, they are soo loud though.

  • Ya they are kind of loud about the equivalent to a lawn mower (as thats what they are). But worth it. I guess they could have ran the exhaust underwater; however anything touching the water eventually becomes a problem. Definately good motors thought....thanks for the comment.

  • use an old moped exhaust on it or something of the like....they dont have to be loud.

  • I will be uploading a video soone of my little vreation. Hope to see more of your videos of the briggs.

  • I have a briggs outboard also and mine gets you where u need to go. What kind of jon boat you got? to get the top speed I am using an old 1957 14 footer. The floor shakes underneath you its so thin.

  • I'm not sure the year of the boat. I bought it off some lady for 100 bucks. I would estimate probably early to mid 80's. With just me and the dog she'll run around 15 mph i would estimate on a calm day. I love this motor, i take it in the swamp no problem as there isn't an impeller.

  • man i was riding right along with you.i actually grabbed a sandwich right out of the cooler.

    great video!

  • Ya its definitely a fun little boat. Thanks for the comment...
