Damn, this so classic!!! I was only born in 1983 (August 9th--in BROOKLYN!!!!!), but it's still great to see the ads that were on our NYC channels when I was still a little whiny tiny seed. I really wish I were an older cat at that time...so I could be inside my little-ass Madison St. shack in BK, in November of '83, on the weekend, watching NYC television. :-)
One more thing...8:31...where can I find those?!?!?!!! "Toast-r-Cakes"? WOW! I'd LOVE to have those for breakfast every damn morning!
Pat Harper (R.I.P. - seen/heard in the news preview clip from 3:30 - 3:45) certainly qualified as a true newscaster, especially if placed alongside "PIX-11's" current approximation of an anchor, Jodi Applegate (who's about the same age today as Pat was at the time of this clip) . . .
As for the "Manhattan" track - wasn't there another ad besides the Prince George Hotel spot (and WNEW's "Big Apple Movie") to use this?
Okay. Never mind the last question that I asked before. Well after many months of research, I finally discovered that the name of the song that is heard in the "Prince George Hotel" commercial, which is owned by Halifax, and the theme song of WNEW-TV/WNYW-TV channel 5 in NY's Big Apple Movie, is actually a library music piece titled "Manhattan" by Craig Palmer, on an album called "On The Town".
Would anybody happen to know what the title or the source is for the WNEW Big Apple Movie as also heard in that Prince George Hotel commercial? Thanks.
Regarding the New York lotto ad: $5 million winner Lou Eisenberg is still around today at the age of 81, although went broke in 2001 due to a series of bad investments and alimony payments.
Thanks to the news update, I can successfully date these commercials. The Great American Smokeout is/was held on the third Thursday of November, looking at 1983's calendar, this was the night of November 17th.
Excellent...it was great seeing those old commercials and WPIX again!

I am having a tough time putting the website for the song.
Do a google search for "unippm". It's the result that says, "Universal Publishing Production Music - Startsida"
Click on "Network Music", then click "007-On The Town", it's the very first track on there, 1-Manhattan. Enjoy!

Also, the music used in the Prince George Hotel spot was also heard on WNEW's "Big Apple Movie" around the same time period!
