The problem is that for every incident where if someone had a gun they might have saved lives, there are numerous incidents where people were accidentally killed or injured by someone owning one. Honestly its a much more complex issues than either side portrays it and there probably is no ideal situation. But the idea of going back to the wild west where everyone carries guns around I think demonstrates the weakness of the guns would save lives argument.

@brockunc Thanks for your thoughtful comments, BrockUNC. Back in 1993 Gary Kleck showed that as many as 2.5 million crimes are thwarted each year in the U.S. from the private ownership of firearms... and in most cases the potential victim never gas to fire a shot.

No private citizen in the U.S. is required to carry a firearm, and if they chose to do so they'd be wise to train in its safety and use. For each responsible person who does so, that problem of yours is reduced.

"The Right to Bear Arms" is the difference between citizens and subjects. Laws only apply to good people so you bet your ass that bad people would still have guns. Knife vs. gun looses every time. This video leaves out part about how she carried a handgun in her purse for self defense until the legislators made handguns in purses illegal.

She explains she reached in her purse for her handgun, that wasn't there. Her legislators left her out to dry and whomever posted this edited video should be ashamed of themselves.

I understand that Mrs. Hupp's bottom line is that the 2nd Amendment is written so the citizens can fight back against the government when it becomes oppressive, so civilians should be able to own more of the lethal assault weapons.

But there's a great flaw to that argument, and the bottom line to that flaw is that if one argues for civilians to own guns that are just as lethal as those owned by U.S. military then one day the gov will have to legalize nukes as well.

I disagree; "... the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" refers to small arms, and the SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the...) recognizes that quickly. A nuclear bomb would be difficult to "bear" in the first place. ;-) I have heard that even the Russian "portables" are 45kg.

It's not just that, Nuclear Weapons were never meant to be a "defensive" weapon. There's no possible way to use a nuclear weapon to "defend" territory. It's purely offensive, so therefore it doesn't fall under the "defensive" aspect of the Second Amendment.
