There have been many population collapses in history: the starvation of the Akkads, the fall of the Egyptian old Kingdom, the collapse of the Western Roman Empire, the disappearence of the Mayans, the fall of the Aztecs, the fall of Angkor Wat, Easter Island etc. yet they have all been localised calamities - terribly devastating but harmless to other parts of the world due to its previously divided nature.
Today we are a global village, if it collapses there will be depopulation everywhere!
just think humans could have driven dirtbikes and go carts and scooters and mopeds around for the next million years at least instead of wasting all the oil in 200 years
Im currently working on my thesis on Peak Oil. Last summer, I interviewed Jean-Marie Bourdaire, a renowned geophysicist, who told me at the end of our discussion, I trust we are at the end of mankind. Worrying, bearing in mind he is a very rational man with great experience in the energy market. In fact, he is the former Director of the Long-Term Co-operation and Policy Analysis Office (IEA) and previous Director of Economic Studies at Total.
Expansion becomes impossible without abundant cheap energy. So I think that the debt of the world is going bad. That speaks of a financial crisis unseen, probably equalling the Great Depression of 1930; its probable we face the Second Great Depression. It would be a chain reaction, one bank would fail, and another one will fail, industries will fall Dr. Campbell (2006)
very, very impressive... I think it's time to take him (and the Peak Oil movement) seriously!
It's going to be much worst than the Great Depression. It's going to be the greatest crisis in the History of humankind. I'm not a harbinger of doom, I'm just telling you what's going to happen.
Not used, but they won't last long, a couple of years tops... The very big fields are gone, going after the little pools scattered around the globe that are left is futile, and also very expensive. We need to start anew with something that is sustainable.
What hidden reserves? Are you talking about what one kook is claiming, for which there is no corroboration that I could find? Are you going to stake your future, and the future of civilization, on rumors of hidden vast reserves? It's so easy to believe conspiracy theories. It's far harder to transition away from oil. But that is what we must do, sooner or later. I say, sooner. Don't force the problem on our children.
Something that everyone should know about. Lets hope they have the courage to keep their heads out of the sand for long enough to get the message - the Age of Oil coming to an end. Start preparing for it NOW.
Wonderful production - can't believe it only has <2K hits in 3 months. This should be required viewing in every school instead of the (mostly) crap they are teaching.

The only way theoretically "to keep the party going" is Nuclear Fision.
But still, other major problems may come like water supply, etc...

Uranium is also going to peak soon.

this also happened in Brazil in last 30 year. Highest exporter of food, yet had the most starving people per food of output.

irish people lived on potatoes because they were sending the expensive crops back to britain, they starved with fields full of food.
