I was in Vietnam in 1968. We could listen to Marvin, Temps, Smokey and the Supremes, Aretha, and many more. But we didn't have this one. It was a senseless war; and we all lost a lot of innocent young people because of politics. Thanks for the post.
This is one of the best, most discerning records of the 70's. Kudos to Greg Perry (who wrote this song) and also to the brilliant, Lamont Dozier and the Holland Brothers for having the balls to release this record in 1971 and still having it become an underground hit.. It is still very relavant today, 40 years later. Keep this one spining!
@TheCarriehinnant this song was not band that was a rumor spread through out the year. We do have a constitution anybody heard of freedom of speech. This band would have been made by our Federal Gov which they don't have the power to do. There would have been Supreme Court challenges joined not only by her and her record level but every artist out there. Theres not one person can quote any case law u know y because it didnt happen
Lost a lot of friends to the Vietnam war. Many who did come back home alive were not of the same mind set as the left. We are now in a different war but the same situation. Loved the song then and still do. Pray for our young men.
Wow! I lost family in Nam and friends! And, you know what they said about Freda Payne's song "Bring the boys home" it made them cry each time they heard that song! They wanted that song more than any song at that time but it was taken off the air. This song is long gone but never forgotten. I believe so many of our Men went home with this song in their mind......."trying to get home". Thank you Freda Payne!
THIS SONG WAS BAND BECAUSE THE SISTER WAS TELLING THE TRUTH SO SHE CAME BACK TO WITH "A BAND OF GOLD" OBAMA DID NOT START THE WAR AND IT IS VERY STUPID FOR EVERY ONE ON BOTH SIDE TO STILL BE RACIST DUE TO 911 I WOULD THINK THE BRAN CELLS HAVE PROCESSED THAT WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT THAT BOAT BEING "THE WORLD" STUPID WILL JUST BE STUPID ~CAN'T WAIT FOR THE EXCUSES TO GOD~GOD BLESS YOU ALL
SONG IS STILL PREVALENT TODAY!!!!! My son served his first tour of duty in Iraq when he was 19--STRAIGHT out of Boot Camp!!!!! Now, he's being deployed to Kuwait. YES!!!!! THIS IS OUR ANTHEM--BRING EM HOME!!!!! Thank you so much for this post.
@tlover1062 The media has forgotten all about the sacrifices you and your family and other families have to make, as these wars are no longer interesting enough for them to cover. I hope your son is safe and well and will be home soon.
sho got us into this war....it was BUSH, so ya'll should be singing to HIM!!!!
sorry your white poeple gotta live with what Obamas doing but he's just trying to clean up all the SHIT that your boy BUSH left for him, so quit complaining about the 3 wars and SUCK IT UP, it's all BUSH'S FAULT!!!!
@er20092009 Once we get the real birth certificate next month,we're going to turn Obama into Bush-Reggie Bush. His Presidency will be vacated and Sotomayor will be back at Yankee Stadium.
