how to train your dragon had lousy marketing, i think.

it had bad numbers when it opened because of how it was advertized. it looked to me like it would be another stupidly cheesy dumbed-down family comedy, but i gave it a shot and i fell in love with it. word of mouth saved it in the end, because it really is a great movie.

I blame raised ticket prices and marketing. How to Train Your Dragon wasn't advertised as much as most Pixar stuff or Monsters vs. Aliens.

Also, if studios want to make more money, they should charge less, so more people can afford to watch. 3D should be more, but not too much more.

Poor Dreamworks, their movie just had to come out the week ticket prices were raised. I think because of 3D becoming overused plus the raised prices is the reason it's doing so bad. I just hope Dreamworks can get back in the game and beat the overhyped Toy Story 3 with Shrek 4.

I think the big reason How To Train Your Dragon didn't do as well as Monsters vs. Aliens is because it was competing with Alice in Wonderland. If you have two awesome movies in 3D, one is animated and one is (mostly) live action, the live action movie will win. Also the marketing for How to Train Your Dragon kinda sucked.

I believe it's the raising of the ticket pirces that is killing the box office totals. It's nice that 3D movies are offered in 2D as well, but I know that for me personally, I don't want to shell out the cash on 3D unless it's REALLY worth it (like Avatar). Movies are just getting so ridiculously expensive that I think Hollywood is hurting itself.

Paranormal Activity was bad enough, do we really need a second? And what will it be about? Katie being bossed by Douche boyfriend 2.0 who wants to see the Demon who terrorizes her? Or will we see the events of the first movie by the demon's POV? As I sat down to watch Kick-ass, I remember thinking this is one of the few 2D movies I've been really excited for in a while. I was worried that 3D would be the end of 2D or at least it would severely decrease the amount of 2D films hollywood would invest it when there are larger profits to be had.

Here in the UK IMAX costs around $10.50, so I think the price hike in the US isn't necessary.

I hope these BO figures send a message. They cannot demand unreasonable prices.

Dragon's poor opening is probably marketing and 3D overkill. It seems like after Avatar people think movies require 3D.

And also, even though Alice is making a lot of money I don't think they should really make a sequel for that reason. That's how bad sequels are made. But knowing Disney, they'll make Alice in wonderland into a franchise of below average movies like they always do (yes, Pirates of the Caribbean, I'm looking at you).

The only thing I can say about Tekken is why don't they have at least the original cast of fighters? King, Paul, Michelle, Wang, Kuma, Lee, Kunimitsu, Ganryu, Armor King, Devil, and any of the Ogres are not on the cast list. I am a huge fan of this series and I am pretty upset that they left out a huge chunk of storyline. If they are going to focus on the Kazama-Mishima storyline, fine. But then why have Anna's? UGH, i could rant all day about this.
