Clever. Amazing evocation of Bugatti's past designs while being contemporary. I wonder if VW will lose as much on each one of these as they lose on the Veyron - estimated to be as much as several $M per (declining cost curve depending on how many they ultimately sell). It's a halo product, after all.

The lead time on designs like these is ahead of the Great Recession. And it's to be viewed in context of the vast VW product portfolio as a whole: this is an apex product. It's as much about halo marketing as it is a ludicrously expensive car. But merely having the money does not mean they'll sell you one: you have to be the 'right' kind of customer.
