In my experiences in both, people get much more offended by proclaiming to beat them until they accept Jesus Christ as their lord and savior than by simply threatening to kick their ass. Kidding/joshing aside, I am no judge of who should and who shouldn't have any particular faith so long as I am not ever in my life declared too crazy to perform certain occupational tasks on the notion that my refusal to dismiss God as fiction makes me way too untrustworthy.
Considering atheism to be a religion depends entirely upon your definition of the word 'religion'. What you mean is that it's not an organized religion, at least not in the majority of cases.

By that definition, Atheism would be a religion based on the fact that it is the belief that the universe was not created by a god. There are other definitions of "religion" and "Atheism" that would make Atheism the absence of religion. It just depends on which you want to go by. :)

I'm a catholic school kid. 6th grade was my first year in a catholic school. I'm now in 7th grade, and have been questioning things for a while. A note on your allusion to the belief of the trinity: I actually don't believe in it. I only learned about it around six months ago because it is stated nowhere in the Bible and my pastor disagreed with it, and thus never mentioned it. I'm a catholic school kid. 6th grade was my first year in a catholic school. I'm now in 7th grade, and have been questioning things for a while. The thing is, I don't want to go to a catholic school anymore. I'm too nervous to tell my mom. Even though she isn't strict about religion, (she's actually Muslim) I think she just tries to picture me as some catholic schoolgirl when i don't want anything to do with it.? I'm a Christian. It seems like most atheists are too aggressive when it comes to sharing their beliefs. You are one of them. However, I do appreciate what you said about picking a religion. It seems nowadays people pick a religion as if it is something you can just "pick". Like you can just decide "Hmm... Buddhism is pretty cool, but I just can't turn away from Catholicism." A note on your allusion to the belief of the trinity: I actually don't believe in it. I only learned about it around six months ago because it is stated nowhere in the Bible and my pastor disagreed with it, and thus never mentioned it. I regularly attend a protestant church, while my mom was raised Catholic. She had just assumed my entire life that I knew about the trinity and believed in in. She thought it was essential to be a Christian, though neither I nor her husband believe in it.

Christianity, which is in many ways like the pagan religions of the day (virgin births, resurrections, threats against not flattering the god enough, promises of eternal bliss for adequate flattering) mimics the bad-god / good-god dichotomy of paganism. Christians don't call Satan a god, but he is for all practical purposes the "bad god" of Christianity. As in paganism, the good & bad gods are nearly equal competitors, but the good god eventually ekes out the win.

Atheists still believe something, even in their non-belief. They do not believe in God, therefore they do believe that God is not real. That is a belief, but this seems to be the only belief required to be an athiest. So yeah, I guess I was wrong in calling their belief a system, just like one stamp does not make a collection.
