As an almost brand new acoustic guitarist, I was wondering if an obsidian or any stone pick would produce the beautiful sound everyone looks for. Would it?
dunlop makes tortex really light gauge picks that DONT brake so you could buy those paul gilbert uses something like .57 or .53 mm dunlop tortex picks to great effect so not all light picks are bad just the ones that are made out of shit material "cough cough" fender picks
what if someone wants that scratchy sound when they're playing? that's just like saying "oh, don't slide your fingers across those acoustic strings, no one wants to hear that when you're changing chords!"
oh and that bass pick crap. just plain bull. it looks comfy to me.
@RJiminez51 yeah, i know right? i bought the green tortex ones and the ink almost instantly cam off as soon as your fingers rub onto it. I prefer Fender picks.
There's no such things as a plectrum specified for bass or guitar, I use those "bass" picks on my guitar and the standard size picks from bass. A picks a pick, what you use it for depends on the player's feel and preference.
i like triangle picks most in case of playabillity, but i think tortex 0.60 mm have a great not to floppy but just a little floppy sound and they sound warm. they sound great :)
neck pick-up (single coil) little bit chorus delay reverb and distortion. tortex 0.60 and play aggresive, and youl have the SRV sound
The best picks I ever had were bullhorn. I can't find them again though. The only ones I can find are too thick. The ones I bought @ ten years ago at a little music shop were close to a "medium" thickness of a regular cellulose pick.
I use Dunlop Tortex orange ones now. Or sometimes these picks that say "COOL" on them. They have a light sandpaper feel to the grip area.
@BlackSGMan Thanks for that. Andy messaged me yesterday to tell me that as well. Bad news for me, I am in Victoria! Would love to be able to take lessons with him.
Good advice, those skull picks and others like them are definitely not to be used for playing.
One thing I would like to add is that the type of pick Celluloid, Delrin, what have you, to me, comes down to personal choice especially the gauges. When I play my electric I use a .73 and for my acoustics I like to use a .60. I perfer delrin picks which Dunlop, Clayton AND Fender manufacture.
I think there are few dunlop picks that have good ink on them,i recommend Fender.

I find I play quicker with a 1.2mm Jim Dunlop Jazz III pick. They're little baby picks so they force you to play more accurately.
