  • ROFL LOVING THE DRAGON

  • STOP WITH THE GAY COMMENTS!!! The dragon's just an optimistic fellow who enjoys peaceful poetry and fun. CUT THE GUY SOME DAMN SLACK!!!!! >:-(

  • Back then gay people were seen as rather odd and queer. Now odd and queer people are seen as gay.

  • My gay-dar is off the charts with this dragon!

  • i must have watched this at least 400 times wen i was little

  • the first story in this thing is that things may not be as you thought they were.

    ...

    usually alot gayer.

  • This is terrible. I forgot just how terrible.

  • What kinda dragon doesn't have wings?

  • Just the best

  • the dragon reminds me of Big Bird.

  • Saw this for the first time last night... and I'm sixteen! Obviously, I missed my childhood right here

  • I used to watch this film on video all the time when I was little! XD Ah the nostalgia!

  • Havent seen this video in forever! thanks

  • Haha, the dragon's voice reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail X)

  • Where's the movie version of this short? Where this man visited the Disney Studios back in 1941?

  • @avickers1992 Why can't I find it online? And why are there only clips of that version on YouTube?

  • Dragon: Now boy, piss off! Glee is coming on in five minuites and I don't want to miss it. And don't bother finding me tomorrow because I have tickets to the Lady Gaga concert.

  • I'm pretty sure they used this dragon in "A very Potter Musical". You can slay it easily by chopping off it's head with a fruit by the foot!

  • Hi Could any one of you subtitle this movie in English, please? it would be so wonderful,..coz it is hard for me to understand and hear this English accent. I will be waiting for eng subtitle and then i will watch it..! pls.

  • why is that kid american when in medieval times they where british O_O

  • how come the kid always waks in on someone while they're bathing? :)

  • Come on people. He's just tooo nice. toooo nice thatpeople think he's gay. All he wants is to share his joy so the kid an be happy too. That dragon obviously saw alot of fucked up things in his life so he wants toforget about it. You liberal Fucks

  • May I speak for all the straight people who like this when I say this, who cares? Gay, straight, mixed, who cares? I'll say this as well, for a guy, he's adorable.

  • @22Tesla Well, I don't mind thinking he's simply metrosexual, personally.

  • that dragon is absolutely fabulous, I remember this cartoon being shown on TV when I was a kid

  • Comment removed

  • i'm pretty sure i make up at least half of the page views. xD

  • That dragon is wearing really pretty purple eyeshadow.

  • I use to love this when I was a kid.

  • OMG at 8:00 He sounds like the krow from Dumbo

  • I'm sure the dragon is a boy, I've seen tiny characters with deep voices, especially when singing, so a large character with a high pitched voice is possible.

  • OH SNAP!!!!!!

Sir Gile did the devil's sign at 6:29

  • This dragon is definately GAY!!!!!!!!

  • Its a gay dragon.

  • Apparantly the dragon is a boy :D i dont mind either lol has he got the voice of the mad hatter from disneys Alice in wonderland?

  • Apparantly the dragon is a boy :D i dont mind either lol

  • personaly i think its a female but thats just me :l

  • is the dragon a girl or a boy? it apperdid in ladiys night and it has eye lashes but its sounds like a boy

  • @3:00 DONE.

  • the uoside down cakw looool!

  • I watched the Hell out of this as a kid.

  • An effeminate male is the least physically threatening/violent stereotype on the planet (effeminate, not gay, as there can be men who are very masculine but gay and straight men that are very effeminate), hence the dragon's pansy-ness.

  • After 20 years I still don't get the dialogue due to the thick British accents!!! Save the American boy...

  • i havnt watched this for 14 years! lol I was 7,it seemed so magical to me...

  • I can still remember watching this on video before I even knew what "gay" was. So fun to watch it again now. Aside from seeing it in a whole new light, it's still a great cartoon.

  • They should retitle the movie 'The Reluctant, yet willing to go all the way, Dragon"

  • I love this movie in all its weirdness.

that fat dragon, how could anyone think that's a threat?

  • That child's always walking in on some one's bath time XDD

  • The dragon singing in the "shower" made my day. XD

  • disney just butcherd the term dragon DX gah! I'll never think of anything the same way without hearing this gay dragon talk DX make it stop!!!

  • I think all the people saying its a 'she' just cant stand to have a GAY character in a Disney cartoon. The fact is, HE is just INCREDIBLY camp and feminate.

  • BEHOLD! THE MOST TERRIFYING MONSTER KNOWN TO MAN!!!! .....a gay dragon.

  • @SuperKBros Back in those days, being Gay was being happy.

  • if the dragon didnt have long eye lashes. people wouldent wonder if the dragon is a girl or a boy

  • LOOK AT THE HAND SYMBOLS AT 1:48, 4:15-4.28, 6:28 et cetera :]

This was made long before Black Sabbath came to the scene.

  • ITS THE MAD HATTA!!!

  • i think the dragon used to be a male but i think disney changed the dragon to female cause on house of mouse ladies night the dragons on there so i guess its female

  • @stich1025 I think you'll find him being at something like a 'ladies night' is an extension on the joke that he's just such a massive queen. XD

  • can you people stop sayinghe its a female dragon

  • @stich1025 Quote from the Boy:

"HE is not. HE's a nice old dragon who likes to write poetry."

  • @pgm06uk but she looks like a girl and she does stuff like a girl and they didnt say if the dragon he or she so of course its a girl

  • actuely theres proof that the dragon is female in the show house of mouse show called ladies night hes the dragon there so its female

  • im pretty sure that dragon is a female or maybe its both male and female

  • One of the girliest dragon known to man. I mean look at the boy's face when talking to these thing its totally says "What the hell have I got myself into."

  • Where are his wings?

  • Comment removed

  • At 8:00, the Dragon sounds like the smallest crow from Dumbo. & Yes, the Dragon is a male homosexual (gay) dragon!

  • This should be a female :/ lol

  • The dragon and the knight certainly don't live up to their stereotypes xD

  • The Homo Dragon. awesomeness. :D

  • My friend had this video when I was a really little kid, and I thought it was pretty much the most awesome thing in the universe. I am pretty sure the background art permeated my brain-cells in a way nothing else ever has. As in: that is what my dreams look like.

PS I love the dragon's ears.

  • Gay or not, the point of the cartoon is not to make assumptions about others based on who they are. Instead of ferocious and scary, this dragon is gentle, kind, and loves poetry. The fact that he has an extensive Barbra Streisand collection means nothing. :)

  • AAHAAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAA Faggalicious. 200 thumbs up!

  • My take on it: 1. Good cartoons have always been made for kids AND adults. 2. There have always been homosexuals. 3. For a kid, this cartoon would not be about a gay dragon; it would be about a silly, playful dragon that didn't want to fight. 4. For an adult, there is a strong subtext that the dragon is gay, and it adds to the comedic idea of him being out of his element and atypical for his species. 5. It's not mean or negative to the dragon, so if he is gay, no foul.

  • anyone else come to this video because of a very potter musical??

  • such a classic. watched this over and over as a kid.

never thought about whether it was a boy or girl.

just see it as a dragon! :)

  • god i loved that moviee!!!!! i have'nt seen it in years!!!!

  • OMG lol, the boy in this has the same voice as Pinocchio!

  • ... I never saw this as a child, is the dragon male or female?

    (Personally, I'm leaning toward male.)

  • @AwesomeEm101 Definitely male.

  • I do believe the PROPER term is "swishalicious" :D

  • Why am I cracking up so hard

  • Thanks for uploading, this was a favorite when I was little

  • I am without words...

  • i have the Dragon's little bathing song as one of my ringtones :)

  • POW HAHA! You are dead, not big suprise.

  • Oh my god this dragon makes me smile so much, I loves him <3333

  • 3:28

'Everything I knew is a LIE!' XD

  • Fuck. Disney was awesome.

  • Hate to tell you the dragon is female

  • @pumper2fd16 The Boy clearly refers to the dragon as "he" when he visits Sir Giles.

  • @pumper2fd16 Not according to Disney.

  • @herpybobo

Yeah, the Reluctant Dragon is actually a male; although his voice does sound rather girlish to be honest!

But then to that point, he is a lovable dragon to me!

  • @herpybobo I was bored and watching "house of mouse" and they had one ep that was a girls night and the dragon was there so she has to be a girl

  • @herpybobo show me his dick then.

  • @herpybobo At the end they sing for HE'S a jolly good fellow.

  • Comment removed

  • @pumper2fd16 its not female its a gay boy dragon

  • @pumper2fd16 doesn't really sound female... more like gay...

  • The dragon is a "he".

Whatever gave you the idea "he" was a "she"?

  • @pumper2fd16 At approx 6.44mins they say "he is not, he's a nice dragon who likes to write poetry". I always assumed he was a boy as a little girl.

  • @pumper2fd16 You are dead wrong.

  • @pumper2fd16 Is the dragon a girl in the original book?

  • @Zistheone2 I've read the book myself. He's a male in the book as well, difference is he's much, MUCH less effeminate. (Hope I spelt that correctly)

  • @pumper2fd16

In a couple of countries, yes, but in the rest of the other countries, no.

  • Wow...a cartoon from the 40s about how masculine stereotypes are...bad?

  • this is...just...epic...

  • Part of the reason that this was not a stereotype for being gay (well it might be for the original meaning of the word) is that homosexuals did not become open with their sexuality until modern times. Being homosexual was highly uncommon or at least being known as such was. If my reasoning is correct, then that means that there wasn't enough of an occurrence to really stereotype. That last bit is an assumption, but the rest I am fairly positive on.

  • this is dildo in mans ass gay

  • Aw, I love this dragon! :D So cool...

  • Not at all!

Giles had a rep but he really wasn't the guy that society portrayed him as. He had to keep up appearances for PR reasons, yet when he parlays with the dragon they find that they're very much the same - except the dragon is a bit more honest about his feelings.

  • He's an absolute doll! A cuddly dragon!

People don't realize that this wasn't just a "story" but a wonderful treatment on the subject of human nature.

One of Disney's best and most creative social satire films.

I wonder how many now will understand this film for what it really is.

  • 3:12

    thats my new desktop

    lol

  • I think I remember this...

  • You know, I get the idea that if this were remade, the dragon would be voiced by Eric Idle. Of course, there would also be less androgyny to his character and more sophistication, which I think would make Eric Idle the perfect voice.

  • I wonder what this was for. It was too long to be a theatrical short. Was it part of the weekly "Magical World of Disney?" I wasn't alive when that show was at its prime.

  • Lol what a pedo. I feel bad for the guy who voiced the dragon.

  • They should make another reluctant dragon movie and this time have the dragon take a boy to see the broadway play "pajama game" or something

  • omg I want a jam sandwich now, the dragon has made me want one...mmmmmm cloudberry jam

  • awh the dragon is so camp and fabu-lious I love him!!!!!....

though 'enemy of the human race' just cause he's a dragon damn that's deep for a kids filim.

omg lol the size of the bath, and sir giles ahahah he's so funny.... actually this cartoon remindes me of astriex cartoons which are great

  • yo maybe it's just me but at 4:07 it sounds like hurray for the faggot killer, and then the boy says hurray for the dragon killer

  • Je suis la seule à avoir un esprit déplacé à 6:38 ?...

  • I love that when asked if he ever does anything desperate, he responds with writing poetry.

My favourite Disney cartoon of all time.

  • I wonder who did the voice of the dragon?

  • @Dudeawesome1000

To answer the question of the dragon's voice, it has a flavoring of Ed Wynn, the guy that sings "I Love to Laugh" in Disney's Mary Poppins movie.

  • Barnett Parker.

  • I remember seeing this movie when i was little, but I only remember about 1% of what happens.

  • how come the boy always meets the main character's when there taking a bath? O.O

oh and the upside down cake always makes me laugh XD

  • @ 3:44 it looks like Scrooge McDuck makes a surprise appearance.

  • Loved it as a kid love it now....proof I was born gay

  • Does anybody think that the dragon acts like he's being flirted at by Sir Giles at 8:54 to 8:58?

  • The Eager Fagon

  • I like this movie. This dragon is nothing but a sentimental poet making dragon. He's my kind of dragon I would get along with.

  • I work with several men that sound just like this dragon.

  • We're singing this in choir, well, the original version that's a music piece.

    In it, it's St. George.

  • O_O

  • I used to watch the hell out this when I was a kid.

  • ...could that boy's shorts be any shorter? XD

  • @TheCripplerChick he makes up for it with his epic socks :)

  • the dragon reminds me of the mad hatter haha

  • This cartoon reminds me of my grandfather. He used to play it for me and we'd watch it together when I was a child, even though he was too old for it when it originally came out. This will always remind me of him. :)

  • This is definitely one of the funniest animations Disney ever made! love it!

  • my school is doing this as a play this year, im so excited.

  • never heard of this before today. it's interesting... Is the dragon a woman? Why would they make a stereotypical homosexual dragon?

  • I like joking about it, but in all honesty this was made in 1941. So the stereotypes were significantly different at the time. He's what would have been considered a "fop" or a "dandy", which has nothing to do with someone's sexuality. This is just a case of a clash between modern culture and older culture.

  • @herpybobo ITS THE MAD HATTA!!!!!

  • did they ever digitally remaster this one? it's my fave thanks so much for uploading <3
