you suggested that during exams we should develop some kind of a routine or technique at breaking down th poems to get at its core meaning and also present some meaningful response to its style in relation to the message it's trying to say ( i hope i understood correctly?).hmm do you have any examples? because i usually look at the poem and i dont know how i should go about it doing so. i really hope you can help me because my lit's really bad and i really wanna improve. thank you for your time!
Very fine use of that riddle poem in Hobbit. I particularly liked your point about enjoying the poem rather than "finding the meaning" - or looking for a moral. Ironically, Bilbo, of course, is the hasty student who simply guesses at the ending and by pure luck gets it right.
answer not as important as working out - cause everyone has a different answer anyway - yes. style in CONJUNCTION with meaning! Very good. Have you ever been in a cave with Golem?
I've just come across your fabulous tutorials and I think they are extremely useful, balanced and well put together. They must have taken some time to create and this obviously shows your dedication to your students. Thanks for being so selfless and sharing tips, tricks and techniques that will help both students and their teachers (including this one!) for future success. Cheers!
Thanks for the kind words. Sorry, but I don't think I can help with Larkin. Virtually all of the lads in my group who revised got good grades. They are working on their 20th century prose coursework (Captain Corelli's Mandolin) at the moment. They are doing Seamus Heaney with my counterpart. Perhaps you'll do Othello in the spring?
just thought i'd pop in a comment to tell you how helpful i found your presentations the night before the frankenstein exam this summer. they're probably what got me the A, and your students are really lucky.
...
and now i'm wondering - are your videos only AS? we're doing philip larkin this year, and he's really annoying me so far; just wondering.

Thanks a lot!
I'm always having problems analyzing the whole structure. I get answers, but sometimes not well-chained procedures... :)

Hey Sir,
Good clip. Was helpful.
I don't wanna be stuck with Golem so if you see me slightly worried during the exam it will be because of that.

Quite helpful about how to look for more meanings and things to discuss but maybe slightly too focused on being in a cave with golem :]
