To put it bluntly--EWs list is the most nonsensical sillyest list ive ever heard of. Makes utterly zero sence.
Film heroes? How does jack bower or Sydney even make the cut.
What about Rocky, Rambo, Martin Riggs, Snake plisken, Luke Skywalker, Captain Picard, Harry Potter, Flash Gordon, Tarzan.Zorro, the lone Ranger, Buck Rogers, Mike Lowrey (bad Boys)..... the list goes on.
Arent these ones ive listed-- Iconic tansendant pop cultural legends??
Since a couple of you guys have mentioned this I'll be putting a list together of my top heroes and villains. I'll hopefully have them ready by next weeks tapings.
I'm going to try to pull from all facets of pop culture (not just American) so it could take a while.
sydney bristow ftw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if you're looking for female heroes on a list like this wonder woman doesn't deserve to make the list, she's pretty crap, the whole world is just in denial. i woulda put kara thrace in there, though...
Wonder Woman is pretty crap and the whole world is just in denial?!? Wow...just...wow. I don't disagree with you on a lot of things D. but I'm calling you out on this.
Why do you feel this way about her? Please back up your statement,
i'll gladly back up my statement: wonder woman is still around based because of seniority, being the sole high-profile female character and little else. there are far far better female superheroes than her! her character is poorly drawn, she's never had a truly defining story that you can point to in the way that you can for most other female superheroes...i could go on but there's not enough space!
if you wanna turn this in to a full-on video debate i'm up for it - i need to hear your defence!
Defining stories for her, just in recent memories, were Greg Rucka's entire run on the book, the original graphic novel "The Hiketeia", Infinite Crisis: Sacrafice and even Alan Heinberg's "Who is Wonder Woman."
I think if you read Rucka's run you may change your mind a bit. He redefined what her character means in our modern times.
To me there are very few female superhero characters who are better.
Also, what do you mean by "poorly drawn?" George Perez or Terry Dodson not good enough?
i replied to this, don't know if i forgot to post the comment...
just to say, by 'poorly drawn' i meant ill-defined, she's had great artists and she has an iconic costume, unquestionably
i've read the 'hiketeia', and i enjoyed it but it isn't a landmark in comics like dkr, death of the stacys, all-star superman, dark phoenix saga etc. she doesn't have one of those, 'hiketeia' is just a good story, nothing more.
i read heinberg's 'who is ww?', it's ok but doesn't having to ask that back me up?
Some alternate suggestions: * The Count of Monte Cristo * Clint Eastwood in the Sergio Leone trilogy * Number Six in "The Prisoner" * Jack Burton in "Big Trouble in Little China" * Buckaroo Banzai * Emma Peel * Remo Williams * the Tom Baker version of Doctor Who * Gandalf * Zorro * Lawrence of Arabia * Trinity (Spaghetti western character played by Terence Hill) * Daryl Zero * Robocop
Greatest anything is the most idiotic idea in the world because it is always purely subjective, no matter how hard you try to make it objective. I rather enjoy all those who are considered great.
@smallmaniac I strongly agree. It's like saying these are the 10 Best movies ever made. The 10 Best Marvel Super Villains. The 10 most Evil Marvel Super Villains. Impossible to make a list everyone would agree on which will refer to the saying you can't please everyone.
I like having John McClane on the list, at least as far as just the first movie is concerned. He is a regular man of the 80s who rises to the challenge and butchers Hans and his buds.
I second adding McClane because he's a hero who is just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not really wanting to be the hero, but stepping up to the plate none the less.
Han is way better than Luke! He's got the cool ship,He gets the Princess,he's got the cool side kick. And you take Luke with his daddy issues and in the end who has to save him Darth Vader cause he didn't the emperor would have killed him.
Nancy Drew ranked higher than the god damn Batman!

Elliot man you are set on auto-pilot when it comes to what makes a hero.
Dude not everybody is Captain America pure.

Superman should be number 1. John Rambo should be up there and Batman should be top 5.

yeah you guy should each make your own top 20 heroes and villains. That would be cool!(The audio preview of this sucks by the way! lol)

CCW, why dont you guys each, or together, create a top 20 or 15 or 10 list of favorite heroes and villians?

Will yourself and Elliot and creating a list together, or seperately? It'd be interesting to see how your lists compare.
BlackPhoenix06 2 years ago
I'd like to do them separately. I'm interested how they would compare also.
