leon RAN across the ring!!! I mean when have you ever seen that, he sort of jumped/ran to hit this guy, who was (is) thinking, what the hell did I do to him to make him THAT mad?!!

Leon Spinks is probably the most tragic heavyweight champion in history. From riches to rags... His downfall is completely unnecessary. Why would he threw his entire life away..

@fairalways - Well, I can't say he is being dumb. His harsh childhood probably ruined him, but then again he had his shot that many can only dream of and he threw it in the trash can. Man... Can't imagine that!

@expressivechild There are few people I would ever call "dumb as a doornail". Forrest Gump might have had something on him. I don't know if you saw the fight of his prior to this one in the Olympics. All I remember was Spinks getting hit hard and floored, but unlike normal people with brains, this made him mad. He came racing across the ring, his opponent with a look of mortal fear on his face, and floored him with one haymaker. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen in boxing.

@expressivechild I've never seen it anywhere, since the Olympics. I can't even remember who he was fighting. Some Eastern European, I think. But they showed it a few times back then. I wonder where you can find these things.

NOBODY could call a fight like Howard Cosell...whether it was pro or amateur. When he called a fight, nothing else in the world mattered; all those other things stopped existing. When HE got excited, EVERYONE got excited!

Agree, that Last Saturday night of the Montreal Olympics is one all older USA Boxing fans will remember forever. Of course SUgar Ray Leonard was the best fighter on the team but Leon SPinks win over Sixto Soria was unbeleiveably exciting. Can anyone guide allout 1034 to get his file on youtube. That whole Spinks fight was one of the greatest bouts ever.

The 1976 Olympics produced the greatest American boxing team ever. Though Leon Spinks wasn't the best of the lot, he was certainly the most inspirational. This victory over Sixto Soria thrilled all Americans.

Does anyone have this whole boxing match? This was one of the most exciting boxing matches in Olympics history. Of the 5 golds that the U.S. Boxing team won in MOntreal that night, this match was unbeleiveable. Spinks and Sorian clobbered each other until SPinks hit Sorian with a schoolyard right.

Leon Spinks' 1976 Olympic gold-medal winning bout was the most stirring I've ever seen. His victory was hard-earned; the cuban, Sixto Soria was his name, I believe was some knockout puncher himself and fought his heart out, but Leon wouldn't be denied, and it made you proud as an American to see him win this battle of attrition and bring home the GOLD! I hope someone will post the entire fight.
