~In fairness to historic comparison boy & girls, --we should recall that in 1929 (-just look at Nat.Geographic-magazines of that era!) most natives of Africa were still living in mud-huts, chucking spears, and adorned with bones in their noses, ---and egads, had still not even discovered the wheel.! Gazing skyward toward drone of the DO-X, startled African Negroes believed the Aryans in great silver-bird were from outer-space, ---and so it would seem to primitives whom had not progressed.!!!
todo un logro para dornier pero lamentablemente fue confiscado por adolf hitler casi entrando la segunda guerra mundial fue un duro golpe para este talentoso constructor el cual no queria que su aparato fuera a parar a las manos de los militares alemanes
Boeing B314's could be constructed using 21st technology. By using turbines instead of piston engines, the range could be extended. Saunders Roe built 3 massive double deck flying boats that had 10× Bristol Proteus 600/610 turboprop, 2,500 shp (2,386 kW) plus 820 lbf (3.66 kN) jet thrust eachcarried 105 passengers at 330mph, with a range of 5,720 miles. Unfortunately they were all destroyed when no one wanted to buy them.
crankbv1: You'd have to have a LOT of calm water to land & take-off. Plus, the fuel consumption would probably be very high. But it would be cool to ride in!
At a time when new runways are constantly needed, which inevitably means tcompulsory purchase of land and the formation of protest action groups that oppose them,l have often wondered why we don't build flying boats anymore. They used to have a Sunderland service off the Solent waters years ago. The payloads of these aircraft are very high for freight and water costs nothing to maintain. With technology today they wouldn't be slow and lumbering either. We flew them once,so why not now?
this airplane has been made in italy too under dornier licence but was provided with italian isotta fraschini first than fiat after engines more reliable and powrful.
Glenn Curtiss American engines. After completing 103 flights in 1930, the plane was refitted with water-cooled Curtiss Conqueror engines at 610 horsepower each. On the August 4, 1930 flight, newly fitted with Curtiss engines, the plane reached 1,650 feet, a height that was deemed suitable to cross the Atlantic.

Taking 70 passengers across the Atlantic in comfort in 1920! How long before this was achieved by another aircraft? Anyone know?
It would also be interesting to know if they set up a regular service and the fare.

PilotGleb 1 year ago
@PilotGleb No, there is no model left, the last one was displayed in a technical museum in berlin and destroyed by bombs in the 2nd worldwar.
mistaxray 1 year ago
@mistaxray no, there are still models left, but all of them cannot fly
thetangledhand 1 year ago
@thetangledhand Then those must be replicas. There where only 3 models built and all of them were destroyed!
