  • Claude Dornier was French

  • again german engineering proves superior to any other european country or america at that time. even today it still proves to be so

  • Taking 70 passengers across the Atlantic in comfort in 1920! How long before this was achieved by another aircraft? Anyone know?

It would also be interesting to know if they set up a regular service and the fare.

  • nice! a working european spruce goose!

  • @battisa not even close to the size of the goose and it came 2 decades before the goose so... no that is incorrect

  • Another Really great Dornier DoX video.

This plane is awesome. All those engines on top!! The designer must be a genius!!

  • todo un logro para dornier pero lamentablemente fue confiscado por adolf hitler casi entrando la segunda guerra mundial fue un duro golpe para este talentoso constructor el cual no queria que su aparato fuera a parar a las manos de los militares alemanes

  • I had no idea this plane flew around the earth!!

  • it looks like a flying ship lol

  • @TheAirPlanePilot11 in german its flugboot means flight boat :)

  • @Forian4ever ohhhhhhhhhhhh

  • @TheAirPlanePilot11 It was!

  • @JRSchmuke lol

  • I just got a new sofa for my living room.

  • @Voltaireooooo hilarious!

  • @saganemc2

    HHAHHAHHH!!!!

  • @Voltaireooooo we need more people like you on the "tube". never stop!

  • Boeing B314's could be constructed using 21st technology. By using turbines instead of piston engines, the range could be extended. Saunders Roe built 3 massive double deck flying boats that had 10× Bristol Proteus 600/610 turboprop, 2,500 shp (2,386 kW) plus 820 lbf (3.66 kN) jet thrust eachcarried 105 passengers at 330mph, with a range of 5,720 miles. Unfortunately they were all destroyed when no one wanted to buy them.

  • crankbv1: You'd have to have a LOT of calm water to land & take-off. Plus, the fuel consumption would probably be very high. But it would be cool to ride in!

  • At a time when new runways are constantly needed, which inevitably means tcompulsory purchase of land and the formation of protest action groups that oppose them,l have often wondered why we don't build flying boats anymore. They used to have a Sunderland service off the Solent waters years ago. The payloads of these aircraft are very high for freight and water costs nothing to maintain. With technology today they wouldn't be slow and lumbering either. We flew them once,so why not now?

  • 0:31 Who's he calling?

  • Pan AM used to call their 747's "clippers "

  • I've heard of the Pan Am Clipper, but not this!

  • Would you feel comfortable flying an aircraft called the "Doh!" ?

  • Ich würde meine Lizenz abgeben um dieses Ding fliegen zu dürfen.

(OK, ich müsste erst mal eine haben...)

  • schweeeeet

  • Makes you wonder why they dont make boats like this anymore.

    Extremely safe.

    Loaded with things to do.

Technology these days are trying to kill us. >_<

  • THAT is awesome. Is that even real? It's the ulitmate in Dieselpunk!!!

  • @MEATYOKERRable yes, it is real

  • do they fly today?

  • @PilotGleb No, there is no model left, the last one was displayed in a technical museum in berlin and destroyed by bombs in the 2nd worldwar.

  • @mistaxray no, there are still models left, but all of them cannot fly

  • @thetangledhand Then those must be replicas. There where only 3 models built and all of them were destroyed!

  • I love German technolgy!

  • a step from 10 passengers upto 100.. and dornier didn't knew if it'll fly...

    untill that day!

  • It's so weird how they used to use steering wheels in cockpits back then

  • a very safe aircraft in case of engine failure you could just land in the water like ...

  • @shamrock608 In cass of engine failure, the pilot would say "Eh - I've got eleven left over."

  • @shamrock608 or just carry on going :)

  • where is it now?

  • @og882001 it was destroyed in a bombattack in WW 2.

  • 1930 :Ô.Ô:

  • this airplane has been made in italy too under dornier licence but was provided with italian isotta fraschini first than fiat after engines more reliable and powrful.

    A great plane anyway

  • Glenn Curtiss American engines. After completing 103 flights in 1930, the plane was refitted with water-cooled Curtiss Conqueror engines at 610 horsepower each. On the August 4, 1930 flight, newly fitted with Curtiss engines, the plane reached 1,650 feet, a height that was deemed suitable to cross the Atlantic.

  • Wonderful Video! I admire the Dornier Flying Boats. Just recently I saw the last flying DO-24 on an airshow. Great!

  • tremenda aeronave para la epoca y tenia que ser aleman estos inventan todo

  • verdad
