Be careful with that. My roommates weimaraner is now obsessed with any reflection she sees because of that. It's quite sad because she just stands there staring at the ground waiting for one to appear.
My boxer does the same thing, he thinks if he jumps on it it'll like die or something and then he can get it. It's so funny because we have to be careful or he'll do it so much is face bleeds.
My mom used to do that with her cairn terrier. Eventually, she (the dog) developed an insane obsession with glares, shadows, and the like. No matter how many times I told my mom that it was not smart to play with her with the laser pointer, she kept doing it. The dog chewed through the drywall and through the back of our garage door to get shadows, not kidding!
Andrew11114 is unfortunatly correct. This is really fun but in some dogs this can start to really screw with your dogs head. They can become obsessed with shadows and changes in light, and can become impossible to have around when you need to use a flashlight. Anyone thinking of doing this or that is doing this should do a little research on it. It can really mess up a good dog!
Please!... I hate to have to be the one to be the party pooper... But I heard that using a laser pointer too much can cause a specific mental illness in dogs. It has to deal with stress. The dog never catches the littles red light and therefore tries looking for it even after it has "left" ther room... this is a serious disorder... and someone that I know is a professional dog trainer told me about this ... so please find a different way of playing with your dog other than using a laser pointer.
