At The End The Background Seems To Be A Studio, It Doesn't Seem That An Inexperienced Made This Video. So I Don't See The Truth In Your Video Description. Good Thing I Only Give Out 5 Star Ratings... Enjoy
One of the best ways to do this is run a part of even your master bus through DB Blue and render it out multiple times. Then you just use audio editing to slice them up and use the bits that sounds good as fills and stuff. I don't like it running as an insert for a sustained period, especially with out automation or programming. Check out the Beatmaker video response I posted. That's where the fills came from in that track.
Without doing programming of your own, glitch often comes out sounding like shit. However, if you're willing to program something to do the glitches for you, then why not just do the programming yourself? It sounds better and you feel much more accomplished.
effects/plug-ins only sound the way you program them to sound. dblue did an incredible service to the electronic music community with this plugin. the ease in which the laziest programmer can chop and dice tracks means the guys at the top of the heap have to work that much harder to keep the rest of us amazed. bravo. glitch, in a perhaps indirect way, has pushed the evolution of electronic music forward.
Cubase is a VST sequencer, Reason can be used as a VST(actually rewire, but works the same) plug-in. This is what I meant, I think it was fairly apparent.
freqmart - i'm not sure why you got so many thumbs down for that. i think i know what you meant, reason can be rewired with cubase (or used as a plugin if you think of it that way) and then you get all of reason plus the extra possibilities that cubase (or in my case ableton) provides.
however, reason is a powerhouse. and amazing sequencer completely worthy of being used stand alone, if you actually think it's just a vst then the thumbs down are deserved, lol :D
i'm not sure what you proved. of course any idiot can play a drum loop, set glitch to random and just listen to it. but that sucks. using it properly, in moderation and having some nice complex automation envelopes then you can get some really cool shit out of it. most vst's can get some pretty cool sound out of them without much effort. it's whether you choose to explore possibilities with it or if you are happy to just do what takes the least amount of effort.
i like how you say any idiot can use it like thats a bad thing. if its easy to do cool shit with it that just means they made a good plug in. and it should be easy for a junky like you to do something interesting with it. suck it up.
What pile of fucking idiots argue the uses of a freeware VST? Yeah, you can hear it used straight away in a track unless you get creative with it but you can do the same with presets from any commercial plug or synth. It's a great VST that costs fuck all and deserves to be explored, automated and abused. I use it in noise to create underlying rhythms and textures but I don't give a fuck who knows it since I'm not up my own arse like so many people on here.
i have seen people use Glitch and believe it is easy and i have seen people use Glitch properly which is a comparison similar to seeing someone program a fwe notes in a sequencer and think they can write tracks as opposed to someone who can deal with the intricacies that make technical music that much more advanced and use the machine properly, to its fullest capability
Upon reading the comments on this video, i have something to say. Music isn't about who is doing it, what there doing or how its being done - The bottom line is that music is about pure enjoyment. If the person is enjoying what they're doing it is beautiful in its own way.
What they're saying is music is subjective, you're presuming that they wouldn't like what they were playing, when the point is if you like it it's good. I don't necessarily agree but that's not the point.
One thing someone said to me though that stuck with me though, is that how complicated something is, is no measure for the creative possablity. Some people create great sounds using only freeware and outdated midi surfaces, but it just stands testamony to their awsome-ness.
Glitch is good, if used in moderation. If you're just using it to spit up bleepy bloopy loops back at you all the time, then that kind of sucks. But if you just use it for subtler effects, it works pretty well. (As far as I'm concerned.)
I was first taken in by glitch from a Psy-Trance tutorial. After using it for 10 minutes I stopped using it. You can do everything this vst can do in any music altering program. Just 5 minutes to chop it up and do what ever too the loop.
@unholymethod But it sounds good does it not. Music is an art and if you like your creation well enough to share with others and then they tend to like it as much as well to listen to it repetitively then you have a popular thing going on here. So music is something passed on that people like to listen to weather it sounds like "stoned kids fucking up soundtracks."
@unholymethod It's not like this is serious music or anything, but the basic premise of what your saying contradicts itself. music is creation, so even a kid banging on pots and pans is creation, even if it has no rhythmic or melodic structure. It's a kid experimenting with the creation of noise. If the only definition of music your using is that it's creation then this is music. I have no idea why you would post this on something that was just put up for fun.
So you don't like a VST because it's good at glitching music? Sorry but grow the fuck up. Technology makes access easier, it doesn't mean any fuck up can make music and release it.
Actually, yes it does. If you can make one loop, you can be a fuckup and make music and release it. And it's a poor vst anyways. I can hear it in a track no matter what someone does to it. AND it's highly limited. Take some time without it and the outcome is better. Or stick to it and watch people get smarter than you.

I find that FL is a great thing to start with, im not denying that.
FL was the thing that fired me into making my own tracks / improv sessions.
But when it comes down to it, I cant really say anything is better than Ableton with Reaktor for improvisation and the whole NI range for everything inbetween.
I think its just the versitility of the two programs and the satisfaction that comes with it when you learn something new. I just couldnt get that with FL.
People are saying Fl sucks, Renoi(c?:P)se sucks. They're both ok. I just think one is more to the point and has a better overview of what your doing(you already know it's FL). So lets try to not bitch about which one is best! Thx :D
I really want to try Renoise out but can't find any tutorials that can properly explain to me how to use the damned thing. I start it up, bang on my keyboard a little bit, and that's as far as I get.
ugh..no...FL is a jack of all trades, master of none program. Too much bloat. I don't wanna waste time dicking with unnecessary crap to make a tune. Plus Renoise offers perhaps the greatest amount of flexibility over your tunes. In FL, why do you need a damned module for everything? With renoise, you can bang out your stuff right there without having to dip through screen after screen of nonsense. Renoise just has a much more logical layout and thus promotes a more efficient way to make music.
Yes, I used it for two years. Garbage program. Its good for making gay house or trance, but its too cluttered and puts alot of unnecessary bullshit in your way when all you wanna do is chop up some breaks and make a tune. Like before, how many screens and modules do I need to go through just to make a beat? You don't even really need all the crap in FL. Slayer? Who needs a guitar synth? Plus, the Renoise vertical layout makes much more sense vs. the obtuse piano roll/useless pattern editor.
Never used Slayer for it's intended purpose, that'd be dumb :D (can be used to make nice weird sound though).
The slice features in both are different but both usefull.
Piano roll in FL has some nice note slicing feature (for those nice rolls) and a quick way to make "sloping" levels. Can't say that either is bad, they're just different.
Another nice feature is the Peak Controller.
Oh BTW, i'm into idm/experimental, not house or trance :D
Theres a video by a renoise user called keneel on youtube showing how to slice beats and its 5 minutes long, compare that to the slicer in Fl which takes a few seconds.
i like to use glitch on somoe beat mixes at an underlying volume and set on different frequencies.
I think it can be a wonderfully creative tool, especially when you do not use it as your primary source of sound, or else heavily customize the settings to achieve primary sound.
certainly best used by someone who can construct and/or sequence beats to begin with. ;)
the thing is to make it good without efects ...effects can only ad the uice ...so personally ..I don't thin k that dblue will make a dull drumtrack sound better ...It will just sound like all the other ( pseudo glitch) tracks from kids who use dblue because they can't program a decent drumbeat ..now everybody feels like they are squarepusher or something ...just poor ...my 50 cent
d blue is nice when you set all the step to black ( means no effect ) and now and then ad a litlle suble effect like the ring mod or whatever ...but using it random is just poor ....
i agree with most of these statments here. dblue Glitch is a good lil effects device...but,.... if used properly!....all musicians will know if you use that effect as your main " wow " factor. proper mixing and skill is what will make one stand out. not hitting the randomize feature on glitch. lolz.
something that any idiot can use.. and then you say "sorry dblue"
In fact, that's exactly what microsoft and apple are trying to do with their softwares and stuff.. it doesn't mean it's bad..
you might want to say that it is bad because it's instant effects.. however.. anyone who used glitch once will appreciate a hand made effect over one randomly generated by glitch. However I think glitch is very usefull when used correctly, wisely, subtitly..
sorry, but imo i think you shouldn't use anything like dblue. Making music is something you do on your own, so dont let dblue do it for you. beside that, you work in renoise, so you can easally make glitchy breaks yourself...
That is an argument that can be taken to the absurd. Can we use computer software at all for making music? Maybe we should just be allowed to use acoustical instruments, and only if we've built them ourselves manually.
I think the key point here is that you should know what your software does. If you know that when I turn that knob, that happens, then it's "ok" (Something you're doing on your own) even if you're using software made by someone else.
I personally use glitch to add texture to tracks more than anything... combined with a passthrough sendtrack and a stereo enhancer, it makes for some great stereo effects ;)
Yeah, some random glitchyness is easy to obtain, but is that really a bad thing? If you just press "random" you get just that, most people can tell intelligent mayhem from whatever-the-program-lashed-out.
And glitch is still a damned fine tool to simplify glitchyness.
Is that Impulse Tracker or Schism Tracker?!?

People are saying Fl sucks, Renoi(c?:P)se sucks. They're both ok. I just think one is more to the point and has a better overview of what your doing(you already know it's FL). So lets try to not bitch about which one is best! Thx :D

Fl Studio isn't "bloated" at all.
I love the damned thing.
I really want to try Renoise out but can't find any tutorials that can properly explain to me how to use the damned thing. I start it up, bang on my keyboard a little bit, and that's as far as I get.
MassadHattaAlZahabi 3 years ago
Just look around on the renoise site, quite a few tutorials there, and the community is big enough so you can ask almost anything.
Theres also a 'getting started' guide there somewhere that'll explain a lot.
I used to love FL, but since using renoise i totally understand why people think FL is crap.

THANK YOU!!!!
I totally agree with what you posted.
RENOISE FOR LIFE!!!!
And plus, for 85 bones......you cant beat that. VST support, Midi in/out, ASIO support, Effect codes, and the list goes on.
What a great tool.

Its a disturbing layout on the program. Its a reason they are selling the program cheap ;)
danielkoolno 3 years ago
It's a classic method that has never failed >:D
pictizm 3 years ago 2
ugh..no...FL is a jack of all trades, master of none program.
Broyale26 3 years ago
Have you even tried FL?
danielkoolno 3 years ago
Yes, I used it for two years. Garbage program. Its good for making gay house or trance, but its too cluttered and puts alot of unnecessary bullshit in your way when all you wanna do is chop up some breaks and make a tune. Like before, how many screens and modules do I need to go through just to make a beat? You don't even really need all the crap in FL. Slayer? Who needs a guitar synth? Plus, the Renoise vertical layout makes much more sense vs. the obtuse piano roll/useless pattern editor.
Broyale26 3 years ago
As a user of both.. i can't really say FL sucks.

Gareth Clarke wrote his album in FL. If you haven't heard it, you should check it out, because it will blow your mind.

Why not use Reason?, i will not settle for less.
Metatronicus 3 years ago
I originally used used Reason 2.5/3 but moved on to Renoise one day. No way I'll go back, tracking is beautiful.
patto2k 3 years ago
same here
reason lacks samples and in programme recording
to input one loop you have to spend about 10 mins or so with recycle and other stuff
lewis03 3 years ago
yeah with renoise you can do it as fast as you can type.
patto2k 3 years ago
right, and you only have 4 screens to navigate vs endless this and that with other more bloated programs(FL, Reason, Ableton).
Plus, in FL you have to go through 3 modules to do what the sample editor does in Renoise
Broyale26 3 years ago
Theres a video by a renoise user called keneel on youtube showing how to slice beats and its 5 minutes long, compare that to the slicer in Fl which takes a few seconds.
ticklemeelmo45 3 years ago
ahh renoise is the shit :)
naw i like dblue but i like it on pads and 8 bit sounds
i do use it on drums but only small backgorund stuff never the main mix
should also try shattersync that thing pawns :)

i like to use glitch on somoe beat mixes at an underlying volume and set on different frequencies.
I think it can be a wonderfully creative tool, especially when you do not use it as your primary source of sound, or else heavily customize the settings to achieve primary sound.
certainly best used by someone who can construct and/or sequence beats to begin with. ;)
directionlessmusic 4 years ago
the thing is to make it good without efects ...effects can only ad the uice ...so personally ..I don't thin k that dblue will make a dull drumtrack sound better ...It will just sound like all the other ( pseudo glitch) tracks from kids who use dblue because they can't program a decent drumbeat ..now everybody feels like they are squarepusher or something ...just poor ...my 50 cent
WARDISWARD 4 years ago
d blue is nice when you set all the step to black ( means no effect ) and now and then ad a litlle suble effect like the ring mod or whatever ...but using it random is just poor ....
WARDISWARD 4 years ago
When you have a percussion track that sounds like crap, sometimes random is the only way to redeem it. But yeah, you're right.

i agree with most of these statments here. dblue Glitch is a good lil effects device...but,.... if used properly!....all musicians will know if you use that effect as your main " wow " factor. proper mixing and skill is what will make one stand out. not hitting the randomize feature on glitch. lolz.
Musiccalculater 4 years ago 3
something that any idiot can use.. and then you say "sorry dblue"
JBLanteigne 4 years ago 3
never saw this video dood, finish this track... NOW!
kaneel 4 years ago
sorry, but imo i think you shouldn't use anything like dblue. Making music is something you do on your own, so dont let dblue do it for you. beside that, you work in renoise, so you can easally make glitchy breaks yourself...
kristof1512 4 years ago
Thank you Jesus.
Can't you tell by the title "glitch abuse" that i was just using glitch and going through the different effects for the hell of it.
patto2k 4 years ago
That is an argument that can be taken to the absurd. Can we use computer software at all for making music? Maybe we should just be allowed to use acoustical instruments, and only if we've built them ourselves manually.
I think the key point here is that you should know what your software does. If you know that when I turn that knob, that happens, then it's "ok" (Something you're doing on your own) even if you're using software made by someone else.

I personally use glitch to add texture to tracks more than anything... combined with a passthrough sendtrack and a stereo enhancer, it makes for some great stereo effects ;)
ByteSmasher 4 years ago 2
Haha, you saying you're an idiot then? ;)
Yeah, some random glitchyness is easy to obtain, but is that really a bad thing? If you just press "random" you get just that, most people can tell intelligent mayhem from whatever-the-program-lashed-out.
And glitch is still a damned fine tool to simplify glitchyness.

thanks for the comment.
good point, I think random has its place
