The sign of Christmas. I remember watching this while browsing my way through the Sears Christmas catalog. When Christmas was Christmas. Right up there with Henry Fonda and Gee Aa F (GAF) Viewmaster and instamatic cameras with flash cubes.
54 years old, and I can remember as a child when this commercial started rotating after Thanksgiving you KNEW Christmas was coming soon. I truly believe this commercial is endeared by most of who kids in the 60's.
@tonybklyn I'm slightly older and like the other poster, I would come running from another room when I heard the commercial. I guess pretty cheesy by today's CGI standards, but back then they were the best! I remember these back into the 60's best of all...
lol..it is great. That is gre8t.I'd like to recommend you an exciting and helpful place for casual encounters or NSA relationship etc.If you don't mind, you may check out__Casual-Relationship.co m___. Hope you like it. Thanks.
Like everyone else that's posted... this was my favorite commercial growing up ( Im 45 ) and I too would run from the other room just to see this one! When this commercial came on, and the other Norelco Santa commercials........ you KNEW Christmas was getting closer !!!!
I remember an earlier one of these Noelco commercials from the early-to-mid 1960s. I wonder if it will ever turn up here on You Tube, or if the original of these is on one of those commercials compilation DVD sets?
I seem to recall having first watched one of these when Norelco was sponsoring some Christmas TV special.
@gymnastix Oops, I said "Christmas." I forgot the Imperial Grand Wizardry of The United States of Secular Social Justice, Obama Bin Biden, have forbidden use of that term; that unless we are referring to Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and/or Ashura (or live in a commune in Berkeley, California or Cambridge, Massachusetts, and are displaying a Rainbow flag, facing west, at 5:30 p.m. on the 22nd day of the Winter Solstice), all other winter religious observations are to be referred to as "holidays."
I remember loving this commercial as a kid, and hoping my mom would buy my dad this shaver. It seemed to make Christmas time more Christmasier! Now I'm sad because I'm thinking of mom and dad...there was something about the 70's!
ITS HARD TO BELIVE THAT THERES SOME PEOPLE COMING IN OUR COUNTRY AND THEY ARE TRYING TO STOP OUR SCHOOLS FROM HAVING CHRISTMAS PLAYS NOW STORES ANIT ALLOW TO SAY MERRY CHRISTMAS ANYMORE IM JUST GLADE I GOT TO LIVE THRU THE 70S JUST PURE AND SIMPLE TIMES THE 70S WERE GREAT I REALLY FEEL BAD FOR THESE KIDS TODAY MAN I WISH I HAD A TIME MACHINE I WOULD OF BEEN GONE YESTURDAY
For some reason I seemed to remember Burl Ives as riding that shaver, I guess I'm wrong. Apparently, many people thought it wasn't Christmas until the Norelco shaver slid down the hill as I did. I remember this from the Rudolph cartoon. I was watching some antique show and a guy had some of the plastic characters from that show. He said Burl Ives melted in his moms attic though :(
I remember seeing this commercial every December when Rudolph the Red- Nosed Reindeer was on. Those were big nights on TV when I was a kid. Nothing at all like today.. and thats a shame.
Commercial was so neat-o that it took years before it dawned on my that Santa, being a guy famous for a humongous beard, probably wasn't the most logical person to endorse a razor. ;)
When I was a kid, I knew Christmas was near when this ad appeared on TV! Been soooooooooo lonnnnnnnng since I've seen this commercial. Ty for posting it and bringing back great memories!
Oh, the memories! This was a Christmas tradition back then. It reminds me of the joy of being out of school and preparing for the best day of the year.
This commercial (and lots more like it) were released over the years. They had a new one for each Christmas, they continued this series into the 1980s. This is one of the few TV images of the past that Robot Chicken and Family Guy have not yet parodied. Perhaps Seths Green & McFarlane may like these commercials too much to skewer them. At any rate - yeah, I stand guilty. I loved this ad too.
I would have sworn I had written what a1elvisfan wrote. I am also 45 and my brothers and I always said it wasn't Christmas until Santa on the Norelco came down the snowy hill. Do they still some version of this now?
Everyone 45 years old remembers these ads, I am 45 also, and yes this was my favorite commercial from way back when, I always knew it was Christmas time when I saw it.
I feel like a kid again, used to love this spot so much when I was growing up in the 70's (I'm 45 now) and for some crazy reason I still wanna reach out and touch that fake snow.
You know, as I look at these old 1970s commercials on youtube, I realize how fun, creative, imaginative, colorful, humorous, etc, these advertisements from that particular decade was. I look at commercials of the 1960s too and, with a few exceptions, they're downright boring. Commercials from the 1950s are fun and nostalgic, sure. I like them ok. Early 80s still had fun, good, creative commercials. But by the late 1980s that was gone. The tv commercials of the 1970s really stand out creatively.
no they were better. things are thrown together sloppily now w/o any thought put into them and stuff just doesn't last. things made back in the day were built to last and it worked well while it did!
I loved this commercial when it originally aired. I was too young to shave (I was 9 years old in 1978), but I loved the image of santa riding that razor through the snow.
wow so it really does exist very nice commercial. didnt know about it but it was metion on a Fresh Prince Of Bell Air Christmas Episode abd decided to look it up nice commercial
My all time favorite as a kid.... I used to come running to watch this commercial if I was in another room... I'm 44 so that tells you how old this commercial is.
@Michelep65 Agreed! I'm 43 and I still remember that commercial. Had some great Christmas memories during those years. The toys I received then ruled!!
@Fab4geek2010 Do you mean the pressed steel Tonka ones that they no longer make anymore ? instead of all this cheap plastic crap that they capitalize on now ?
@Michelep65 hey, don't feel alone, you're only 4 yrs older (soon to be 3 years older) than me. 1978. During that year, a blizzard hit where i lived, everything was shut down due to that profane whte stuff - the 4-letter S word, and i'm NOT talking about the SH one either. i'm talking about the SN one.
@sr71ablackbird Yes. I remember tha year dearly! It was smething when they had shut the Detroit school systems down for like 3 days straight! It was a great time to sleep in and play with X-Mas toys from a few months before. This commercial is one of my favorites as a child and still is! :)
I loved this one as a kid my self I told my husband just the other day I wish they would air it...I am so glad you put it on makes me feel like a kid again.
Looks like we're a bunch of old timers here! Do you guys remember that they ran that commercial year after year? It must have run in the neighborhood of 10 years.
