We all forget that although he is a great guitarist, he was a dick to the members of his band, and even stifled the creativity of the rest of the band. Why do you think there are only two songs on You're Living All Over Me written by Barlow?
you're gonna tell me that solo at 2:27 isnt PITCH-PERFECT? the guitar's not out of tune, its just the whammy bar. And its the same way on the album. its dinosaur jr, not some polished commercial rock band. the song is fantastic. and i love that he opts to just sing over Lou's basslines during the verses.
@frostybob123 When the master tape of "You're Living All Over Me" arrived at SST, the label's production manager noticed the level on the tape was so high it was distorting; however, Mascis confirmed it was the way he wanted the album to sound. J could bring a beat up guitar with ukelele strings and a karaoke box for an amp and still make it sound crazy good. He just thinks beyond society's boundaries. Never doubt his genius.
I like Dinosaur Jr. don't get me wrong but this ALMOST sounds like one of those times where the band doesn't know they are bad and their singing sucks and yet the continue to play. But knowing Dinosaur is not on the conventional end of rock there is some kind of beauty in it.
@meinLiebsterFeind He's totally right, J's vocals are so off key, they sound terrible and his guitar is out of tune. No matter how tight you play it will NEVER sound good if your'e not in tune. I say this as a Dinosaur Jr fan too. I don't know how anyone who likes he original version could like this, his masturbatory whammy bar crap ruins half the song. so why don't YOU move along
@frostybob123 No, why don't you and your other homie move along. That's how J Mascis sings, sounds pretty normal by J Mascis standards. I like the garagey feel of this band and this song, and this live version. Now scoot scoot get out of here
@frostybob123 There are loads of bands playing bland, popular in-tune sugary shit. Uglyness can be beautiful too I think. It's good to see people not giving a shit and just doing there thing
@andersoncouncilpf Who puts that much thought into categorizing their favourite bands into genres? Musical genres worked in the 50's, but nowadays music is changing so much that nearly everything you listen to is cross genre. My point is, both you and Craig are wrong, Dinosaur Jr. makes genre-less music... they just sort of jam.
@andersoncouncilpf Maybe not musically, but J Mascis has a very grunge-like demeanor. You can argue that they are from the "grunge culture" of the 90s.
@blackflagskate this coming from somebody that even can't spell, j is awesome and he writes good tunes it's not all about crazy guitar solo's in flashy clothes fuck.. some people are dumb
forgot how much i love these guys. reminds me of a nice fall day in new york just fucking shit up playing tag or building bike ramps with the neighborhood kids after school
@306ness HE DOES haha. I read an interview where he said he bled all over a bass while filming a film clip due to thrashing his fingers on the strings. Wasn't even his bass. Now that's punk!
Just saw those guys in Vancouver two days ago...They were amazing ! They were so loud that my ears are still ringing...J. mascis had an insane guitar stack with 6 Marshall cabs powered by a HIWATT 100 and two Marshall amps...Ouch !!! :)
Guess he means that they're reuniting for the first time since 1989 with the original lineup.
I love this performance. I love how J Mascis quits playing during the singing, to let everybody hear how fucking out of key he is. Only J is allowed to do something like that. And Jad Fair.
They didn't break up they just kicked out their bassist lou barlow, the origional lineup was broken up but j and murph did another two records with replacement bassists, then murph left and j did one more album in 97 under the name dinosaur jr
I am a mid 90s alt rock loving person. Sing the Sorrow is alright I guess, but I wouldn't pay $5 to go see AFI. Also, I wouldn't see Dinorsaur Jr. play this song if they were playing it free in my own backyard.
All 80s rockers can still rock - alternative, pop, hair bands. He said they broke up in 89. That's sort of true, & not at the same time. J. Mascis continued Dinosaur Jr. with the guitar player. The drummer left. Then later J. got another new guitar player. Dinosaur Jr. OFFICIALLY stopped Dinosaur Jr. in 1997 after the album "Hand It Over." Everything after that were BBC re-releases or best of type CDs since J. Mascis started hi J. Mascis & The Fog band. Cool that the original 3 are back.
You are kinda right but you are just as wrong as Craig Ferguson. Dino never got another guitar player as J is the guitar player. J used to hate Lou Barlow, the bassist, and J told him and Murph, the drummer, that the band is over. Then a week or so later, J and Murph started the band again without Lou. Murph stayed with the band until around the time of Where you Been of 1993. J continued without both of them, like you said until 1997.
I'm pretty sure that's not David Letterman.
