We've got an amazon. He bonded at first to my mom, and eventually, when I was older and my mom was away working, I became his number two. Unfortunately, he grew to become very territorial of me, and now attacks my sister. :( Poor Kristi. Lucky you with Winnie. How adorable she is!
Will she let any one else beside you touch or hold her??.... My sister had a Blue Front and no one but her could get near that bird, and if you got too close to my sister the bird would attack you.... We were told that is how Blue Fronts were
She will allow my daughter to hold her, she is partial to females. Winnie does not like males too well. She does not attack anyone, She will growl at them if they get too close but not attack.
Hey these are great birds, very loving, just listen to this one. We have one, Basil, he is called, looks just like this one, he is about 11 years old now, he says bye bye, to me when I go out to work, in the morning, and Hello! when I come back in. I just can't get him to step up, he is ok off his cage, he will walk onto my hand, but the traumas, I have had getting him to step up off his cage.
You have a very cute parrot! :) I just got a 3-month old amazon parrot today, and he seems very scared of me. He is surprisingly very quiet (does not even chirp)..and really likes his cage. When I take him out to pet him, he sometimes "flies" to the cage and climb back up. However, he doesnt scream or anything. Do you know if I should just leave him alone? Or is this a sign that he just doesn't like me? Any tips? Thanks! :)
aww thats a cracking amazon very clever! how old is he/she? mine just turned a year old and has some of the same impressions like dancing but doesnt laugh quite as well. says a few things. hello, wheres ma boy and a few bad things lol. also the wolf whistle.
just put a video up of him if u want to have a look :)
She is delightful. I have two OWAs and appreciate how wonderful Amazons are. Beautiful girl with a really cute voice! This is one of my favourite videos.
Nightmare, If this would be your first bird, I would recommend a budgie. They are easier to care for and are not as demanding as most of the others. Also if you have never had a bird, a budgie would give you a little taste of what being owned bird is like.
Six hours isn't really that terribly long for them to be alone but I would recommend some one on one time with the bird each day.
See; my Mum' wants to get me a Bird, and shes already bought a big cage and everything as a surprise. But i'm no longer being home schooled, so there won't be anyone at home for six hours of the day to feed the bird some attention (however, I come home for lunch).
So, what bird would you recommend? (mum' thinks I can get an Amazon, but they need ALOT of attention right?)
so would something small like a Conure or a Parrotlet be more suitable?
Great bird! how are they as pets? . I want to get one, but I'm concerned about it spending 10h a day alone when I'm at work... Help me out if you can with your experience with this beautiful critter.
I have been told Zons do not make good pets, but in my experience with Winnie I find it hard to believe. She is a wonderful bird.
I would not get a Zon or any other bird if it is going to be alone for 10 hours a day, its not fair to the bird. But that is my opinion. I'm sure others will disagree with me.
If your not going to be home for 10 hours a day, than a blue fronted amazon, or any birt like blueberrybomber said, is not an appropriate pet. There very social animals and need lots of love and attention to stay happy.
I used to have a blue fronted amazon too! But he died in March! I had him for almost 20 years! Well i used to play this video for him every couple days! And he LOVED IT! He'd get all excited and want to come to the computer! Maybe he was falling in love with Winnie! =) I still watch this video once in a while! It reminds me of my parrot! Some of the sounds that Winnie makes... my parrot used to make! Well i hope u put some more videos up. I'd love to watch them!
I'm so sorry you lost your parrot. I'm glad he enjoyed Winnie's video. I will try to post some more videos, I haven't been able to get anything good on tape lately. Seems all my parrots have gotten camera shy. When they see me with my camera, and they clam up.
nice bird! i have one just like it. he is 4 years old and talks alot. but he doesnt have a good highpiched voice.he talk like an alien so he is hard to understand him. but i will post a vid showing him.
why does the birds wings look small? if i ever got one of these badass birds id never take its ability to fly away id just make it want to come back to me lol
Mine looks like a Ball of feathers when he gets happy - LoL
He does that everytime he sees me around, it gives me a feeling of importance to my existance... but he is the one whose existance is important to me. Love my parrot!
But yeah, they get that yellow eye when they get too excited(in the good sense, of course) so, just be carefull.
Turns out my 'son' at 2 yrs old has begun displaying hen behavior. *ahem* But anyways, I put him on here, just type in the key words DYH singing and it's under Oliver Singin in the Rain. Somone lets a curse slip at the end, so sorry in advance about that.

Yes she was molting and also in need of a shower, I give her fresh fruit and veggies and she for some reason likes to get her tail feathers in it.
