Nope, because he has gloves (DUH!!!), but seriously, in the original game (I mean SMB3) you can carry a knocked out (SEE, NOT KILLED) koopa, buzzy beetle or spiny, until one of these wakes up again or hit you after throw it.

I forgot to tell: You'll see 2 course card slots. In this game you won't get extra lives by getting the same cards. You'll get in a bonus game, determined by the 3rd course card you get. And the game crashes too if you continue after a Game Over. So it's better to Retry the game
