Thousands of major engineering and scientific achievements using the imperial system.
I suppose the fanatical French forced Air Canada to use the metric system (forced on Europe by the 19th century tyrant Napoleon whose soldiers murdered, raped and tortured thousands of innocent people)
"2 days after crash landing, it flew again". Think about it. They sent cranes to lift up the nose, a whole team of engineers to do such serious repairs on the field in less than two days. I would really like to know how they did, I mean they had to change the landing gear an perform repairs on the torn apart surface of the nose...
@Jamenator1 Indeed, but the aircraft was totally recoverable, whereas what the pilots did on AF 447 would have been sufficient to disintegrate in mid-air an aircraft like a tupolev tu-154 or boeing 727.
@aeroavia89 yes, the plane was totally recoverable but they were confused. its also easy to say what they should have done here in our computer chairs but in the stormy black night with the aircraft shaking and all sorts of warnings going off you can start to see how they would get confused ( for the most part the Pilot in the captain's seat new it was stalling and tried to recover but he couldn't because his copilot was pulling the sidestick back). you should read the wikipedia enrty on af447.
@Jamenator1 There was a specific training for this kind of situation, which AF ignored. I am ,not only basing myself on wikipedia for AF flight 447, I have also read and seen other docs. The captain is heard saying "we're not going to get bothered by cumuloninmbus " !! For f***' sake no pilot would ever fly through this, nor let inexperienced flight crew alone during such a critical phase of the flight ! ALL flights during that night avoided the dangerous zone, except AF 447 !!
@aeroavia89 yes, the crash was caused ultimately by the captain making bad mistakes, which led to the inexperianced crew at the controles when a key componet failed and what may have seemed like odd behavure on the aircraft's part, this in turn led to total loss of situational awarness (crew questioning all flight instruments and breakdown of teamwork to solve the problem) which was only regained by some of the crew when it was to late.
@ilias2oo6 did you fucking read what i said... yes its a drag race i got that, but if this 2 engine failure was during the night there was no VISUAL to guide them to Gimli you fucking DICK !!!
Air canada 797 we just lost both engines....... HOLY COW FUCK FUCKING SHITING HELL YOU GUYS ARE FUCKING SCREWED JESUS CHRIST... so you want to go to winnipeg?
oh the freaking imperial metric system is so confusing, feet, inches, pounds, stones, yards, its not related to each other in any way, but maybe usa and the other two countries want to show the world how different and special they are....;)
those kids were stupid, they should not have biked away from the aircraft in the same direction, obviously the aircraft moves faster than they can bike....they should have gone of the track.
the gimli glider was retired a couple of years ago with no further incident! it was pretty cool, cos it did a flyover of the runway on it's way to the graveyard!
@nural666 Air Canada is now ranked the top 2nd SAFEST airline in the world. It logged 4.53 million flights since year 2000 without any accidents so cheers.
@nural666 your reaction is nothing but pure stupidness. this happened because of the guy at the airport who made mistakes. that guy fuels ALL companies flying at that airport. what does air canada has to do with this? absolutely nothing. you message would make sense if you said you are not flying anymore (at all), but blaming a company for a mistake that could occur everywhere is stupid!
Ive seen the movie on this documentary very entertaining.
Just for the record however I do not feel confortable however the aircraft is still flying with the nickname or not, the structural damage and metal fatigue could still well exist and a posibility for another dissaster as the past as proven with other ICI episodes
@Devilzwishbone2009 You may see it this way, but after major damage, especially like this, aircraft should carry out engineer D check, which is basically major check and make sure it´s airworthy. It may be expensive, it´s still cheaper than new aircraft especially given the fact that it was brand new one.
@saveusmilkboy hmmm i thought the scandinavian flick is where you you use the handbreak to "flick" the back end out to get around very tight corners fast (kind of like drifting).
37:16 "...and 'encapsulated' means it's covered with plastic, you cannot visually see it, because it's now covered with plastic and you cannot see the inductor coil itself."
I repeat myself by reiterating my words, meaning I repeat what I've just said.
I've just reread my comments. I withdraw my strong comments about Air Canada's demoting of the captain. I was so shocked that demotion was his reward for saving all those lives with such brilliant flying. On reflection, it was his responsibility to check the fuel even though there was a serious lack of training. I just did not want my comments to appear like the uninformed over reactions that you see so often on YouTube. Was anyone in training or management demoted?
I've just checked Wiki - Air Canada actually demoted Captain Pearson for six months - all part of their attempt to blame the captain. It is utterly despicable that these incompetent bastards, who were criticized quite rightly for failing to train people, tried to blame this heroic and brilliant pilot. There are some real scum around, aren't there? They are as much lying, devious, scum-bastards as Captain Pearson is a hero.
It's horrifying that people are not trained for these changes. Another reason why we should have avoided Napoleon's measuring system. I am sick and tired of these commentators in this series using metres and kilometres when feet and miles are used by the pilots and everyone else - more brainwashing by Europe.
What an amazing pilot - his skill and coolness defy description. He should have been given a medal and the head of training should have been sacked.
@pinchmeImnotdreaming No, you shouldn't have avoided the metric system, in fact, if north america had discarded the stupid and inferior imperial system back in the bronze age like the rest of the world, this wouldn't have happened.
I wasn't really paying attention at 31:11 and I looked again and saw the plane bursting in flame and hearing that 23 people died... Turns out it was another plane -.-
This is exactly why I am so paranoid about my fuel levels in my car........I fill it up every time it gets to 1/2 full!!!!!!

I had an incident when snowmobiling with my family the first time we went out on some rented snowmobiles. No one checked fuel levels in them! We lost 4 of them due to low fuel, 3 got stuck, and we got lost. TG for toilet paper and matches the one person brought. Our fire was spotted.
