The way Metallica still Sound close to the same as they used to back in the day, is because not a lot of talent is required to sing like hetfield( this is NOT an insult) And because of that they can still sound the same as they used to except for better sound quality, hetfield's voice sounding older, and that annoying drum thingy Lars uses at 4:25 for example. What Metallica brought to the thrash/heavy metal genre is AMAZING!!! Mixing blistering speed and AMAZING melody/harmony set the tone for music development. No matter how old or how young, their music influenced so many artists and to still be on the road for 2 plus years at a time... no other band does that!
