A great tune by Billy Joel! I thought "Modern Woman" was from the film "Legal Eagles", but just found out it's from "Ruthless People". This single peaked on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in August 1986!
I love this song and of course I love the movie too. This film was way underrated.Looking at comedy films these days make me feel really bored because they are stupid. Not all but most of them are.Ruthless People is so hilarious!A true 80's comedy.
I've heard that Billy Joel doesn't care too much for this song. While I admit that its no Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, I think it's awesome! Love the movie too.
@zytxuy That's hilarious! Great thing about youtube is this kinda uncensored shit! I love this song, I remember learning it in guitar class in 80's! best decade for rock, w 70s and 60s following suit!
There was no official video released for this song.
This is a difficult song to track down. To the best of my knowledge, it is only available on the Ruthless People soundtrack and vinyl 45. Difficult to believe since this song went to # 10 on the Billboard singles chart for the week ending 7/26/86.
Columbia Records had several of their artists contribute tracks to the Ruthless People soundtrack. Mick Jagger did the title track, Bruce Springsteen contributed a song called "Stand On It." This was Billy Joel's contribution.
One question????? What does he mean after 1986 what else could we do? (Assumes he means men!) What happened in 1986? Maggie T was voted in in 1979 - can't think f any other modern woman thing that he may mean.....
I have an original version of this song from the Billy Joel retold volume one album. The version I have is a studio version, he talks to someone at the end of the song, but the music in the original is so much better!!
They have the intro music of it playing but stop before the vocal starts when Bette Midler's character is chained up in the basement and starts exercising and it's played again at the very end of the film once the credits roll.
my mum showed me this film 2 years ago it has been my fav film ever since.

For some odd reason this song reminds me of actress Sofia Vergara, I think it has something to do with her being in the Modern Family

its the only old Joel song I'm not sick of!
seizetheweakened 2 years ago
You're sick of THAT many classics songs? This song is fairly new by Joel's productivity standards.
Tolstoy111 2 years ago
I'm just burnt out on most of his other stuff like Piano Man and Always a Woman
seizetheweakened 2 years ago
There's a lot more on those classic albums than the hits.
Tolstoy111 2 years ago
You are so right! Plus there are albums that he never released, like the retold albums, that can be found sometimes that have great songs on them!!
