@bokunobaka The harpoon vessel came in close to the Bob Barker and the Bob Barker throw the acid to try to get it to go away. The Bob Barker can only do 15 15.5 knots while the harpoon vessel can do 25knots, the harpoon vessel probably did not intend on causeing a collision, but they had no reason to be near the Bob Barker in the first place except to try and cut it off, and when it decided not to cut it off, its stern ran into the Bob Barker.

From what I saw on this episode it just looked like the Japanese captain was trying to get close to scare the Bob Barker's captain. And he got a bit too close. What people seem to forget, even the Japanese captain here, is that when you get too close to a ship you push out the water and create a vacuum. Meaning, you get sucked in and can't get away. And so the ships collide. Even though I hate Paul Watson's terrorist gang, I have to admit that the Japanese were at fault here.

It takes huge ships to go out in deep water to find these larger whales. Belugas are smaller, and come into more shallow water areas, so they are easier to get, but they are not so endangered and it is their way of life. The Japan situation is different, as it is not their main livelihood.

FACT: Today, now that they're officially not allowed to kill Whales for food, the japanese kill 1000 per year for "scientific purposes".

Nothing wrong with risking your lives. But what happens if you accidentally kill somone on the whaling ship? Or even worse because of these peoples actions they get into trouble (injured or at sea without power) and who has to risk their live to come get them? The coast guard? @bokunobaka The harpoon vessel came in close to the Bob Barker and the Bob Barker throw the acid to try to get it to go away. The Bob Barker can only do 15 15.5 knots while the harpoon vessel can do 25knots, the harpoon vessel probably did not intend on causeing a collision, but they had no reason to be near the Bob Barker in the first place except to try and cut it off, and when it decided not to cut it off, its stern ran into the Bob Barker.

From what I saw on this episode it just looked like the Japanese captain was trying to get close to scare the Bob Barker's captain. And he got a bit too close. What people seem to forget, even the Japanese captain here, is that when you get too close to a ship you push out the water and create a vacuum. Meaning, you get sucked in and can't get away. And so the ships collide. Even though I hate Paul Watson's terrorist gang, I have to admit that the Japanese were at fault here.

Is whaling a crime? I'm pretty sure it's not. I love whales as much as the next guy, but you don't solve problems like this with violence. You solve it in a courtroom with sanctions and policies. Anyone seeing the video the tv public saw would see that the Bob Barker was trying to break through at accelerated speed and the Japanese vessel sped up to try and cut them off. By the Japanese vessel speeding up, it will result in a collison. The Bob Barker isn't some car with anti-lock brakes that can stop on a dime like that. Especiall on the ocean with waves. It takes huge ships to go out in deep water to find these larger whales. Belugas are smaller, and come into more shallow water areas, so they are easier to get, but they are not so endangered and it is their way of life. The Japan situation is different, as it is not their main livelihood.
