Great review. I've watched a bunch of these now looking for a netbook, and this white nc10 is my firm favourite.
MIght have a go upgrading one to 2gb and then experiment dual booting with windows 7, which seems to work just great in some other vids. I'll probably end up with the azerty version (french), going to look in the shops over the weekend ;) Definately going to have some fun with this.
Nah, but I live in France. And I did end up with an azerty, but in black. In fact, I'm writing this comment on it RIGHT NOW! :D I'm really happy with it, definite thumbs up.
Hi all just a quick wee question re the Sammy NC10
Just unboxed my new one, usually with these type of things the instructions tell you to plug the batt in and charge it anywhere between 12 and 24 hours before using.
Usually this is in the instructions and is quite prominent, because the first charge is so important ( Ive mucked this up before to the detriment of the batt ).
Thing is I dont see this anywhere, so what do I do.
I had this samsung nc10 for over 7 months now and the performance if this netbook doesn't dissapoint. I can't say the same for the built quality. The outer shell of this netbook is not as sturdy as other netbooks like Dell, Lenovo, and even Acer. The worst thing about this netbook is the cheap fake chrome accent that was falling a part after 7 month of my wear and tear.
Many thanks for the review I've now bought my Samsung NC10 in white I'm delighted with it. One little point I'd like to pass on, the keys towards the right handside instead of producing the lettter U, I, O, P etc on the top line your get 4 5 6 and J on second line produces fig 1, 2,3 etc. The correct letters can be reinstated by presing the Fn key simultaneously with the F11 key. Hope this helps. Thanks once again for the review
I kept the cover on after shooting the video. But it fell of within a couple of days. I kept the screen cover on until this week. I replaced it with a anti-static cover from a laptop I bought recently. 18.4 inch Acer for my video editing work.
I bought an amazing cover for the nc10. Its a red mesh design by cool bananas.
How does the netbook do on multi-tasks? Would it be a problem, for example loading Microsoft Word, Windows Media Player and an internet site at the same time?
i don't know if I should buy the mini 9 or this one....can anyone help? which is better? i'm only gonna use it to write on + use the net. nothing else but i want it tohave a good battery life and an ok sized keyboard- not too small.
take the NC10!!! the NC10 has a better display (bigger, better contrasts and viewing angles and is non glossy!). besides, it has a great battery life (about 6 hrs) and can be upgraded up to 2GB of RAM memory.
I've never used open office before. Does this work very well with the samsung nc10? Can Skype be used with this? Does this have a wireless card already installed and will that work with a Linksys router?
I've got the NC10. My first netbook or laptop. It's a great little machine and a big plus is the keyboard, it's a great size considering the size of the machine as a whole. I'd recommend the machine to anyone.
Is the screen size an issue at all when typing and/or browsing? I'm all but sold on the NC10, but I'm concerned about having to hold it within two inches of my face and squinting just to see what I'm typing.
I would say it's not an issue at all really. It's a slightly bigger screen than say the eeepc and other netbooks. I wear reading glasses too and my eyesight isn't the greatest and I have no problems. I don't think you will either! It was a concern for me too before I bought it so I wouldn't worry :)
Obviously you dont know anything about native resolutions because its 1024x600.
Picture having a painting on the wall and folding it in half, the painting doesn't shrink so you can see the whole painting, you can only see half of it.... ( i.e the text is the same size as on any other computer (although you can manipulate sizes yourself obviously)).
oo yeah i might wait on this netbook because i heard nvidia is creating a gpu so that vista is capable of being installed on netbooks so thats why i might wait to see if samsung incorporates this in their netbook lineup that way i can run some 3d things and some games as well and what not
A very solid review packed with information. I have seen similar reviews where people talk about the small size, but don't handle it, so difficult to actually understand how small this unit is. An exceptional addition to my computer family (desktop, laptop and now a netbook). I am a graduate student writing my thesis and this unit is just what I needed and makes writing enjoyable...even for me! Charge it up and you're good for a couple days of active use. I love it and would recommend it to all.
A thought occurred to me about the p series sony vaio. It could dock nicely at home to a big screen. If the screen is raised one could push the vaio screen forward and leave just the keyboard. Also because of the high screen res it will come up a gem. So very light and portable and a decent machine to double up at home with a large screen. It is a very sexy piece of kit. As light as the nc10 is it still is a weight to carry around everywhere. The sony is very light. Deep pockets - nice toy.
yeah but what i hate about the p is that its impossible to upgrade sony said once everything is picked eerything is soldiered in and the device is completly sealed off from being opened which is why i want the sammmy
my samsung nc10 has quite a loose ESC button, its looser than any other on top row. it dips down on the right side. its really annoying because i just baught it, so please reply i need help fast.
Not great ones, but yeah. It's only got a 1.6ghz processor, but put 2gb of RAM in and you can run Warcraft, GTA etc. If you really want something for games, get a proper notebook.
the netbook comes with built in wifi. Should you require internet access anywhere away from a wifi connection you'll need to purchase a broadband mobile stick which I displayed in the video.
Could anyone tell me how the NC10 keyboard compares to the HP Mini? I went to Best Buy the other day and found the HP Mini keyboard very good while the Asus EEE keyboard was unusable to me. Is the Samsung keyboard as good as the HP's keyboard?
I'd say Samsung's keyboard is the best there is, but that could just be because I own one.
In reality, I'd say there's little difference. I haven't played on the HP enough to talk about positioning of the buttons, but Samsung's layout is perfect - the right shift key, return and backspace buttons are the perfect size.
I didn't think the speakers were underpowered for what it was. I always use headphones anyway. My main use with it is in public so I don't want to impose my netbook audio tastes on everyone. I'm glad your really happy with it. Mine's become like a second skin now. It feels great to always be able to connect.
Hi. I have just bought the Samsung NC10 and am very pleased with it, it was actualy your review that led me to buy it!!. So far great, even the track pad can be used to zoom in on documents etc, the only slight moan I do have is the speakers are very weak. Have you found the same problem on yours?. I am using it now and have used 4 hours of battery and still have 4 hours left even with the wifi on!. All the best. Macinabit
Yes it does have a built in wireless connection. I demonstrate the mobile broadband connection. Useful when there is no wireless available. In UK T-Mobile are connected with BT openzone which effectively means I can go anywhere that had bt openzone wireless connectivity and use the wireless for free. Thereby saving usage on my broadband service. Without this service I could pay £5.00 a go to connect up. Whereas now I am paying £15 a month and connecting to wireless for free where available.
Samsung sells because combines too basic and useful things, 6 cell with a good keyboard. From the looks and the sound of the keys I still think HP2133 has better keyboard by bit. I have typed only with/on Hp2133 keyboard not with Samsung but that may change soon...
I haven't yet typed on the HP, but I've tried Asus, MSI Wind, Dell and Samsung, and Samsung was easily the best. It was the largest keyboard with the most spacious keyboard, it really was a delight to use, especially compared with other netbooks.
Ah! You mentioned the webcam. Excellent, sir, thank you. Every single review I've read (and I've read a lot) has said absolutely nothing on the quality or even the existence of the camera except saying "it's there".
very nice review and device but I think still the HP2133 and 1000 have the best keyboard despite Mini 1000 being smaller than the Samsung... Samsung has a 6-cell batt right?
Samsung has a 6 cell battery. The keyboard has been its major selling point, as it's only 93-95% the size of a full size keyboard (different review say different percentages). It's been said many times that because of the keyboard it's the most comfortable of all netbooks.
I have tried the Acer aspire one and now have the samsung NC10, I am not fast at typing but it is more comfortable than the Acer, then I do have fingers like slabs of ham!!!!
Games can be installed, but if the disc is required to be permanently in the dvd player then you'll need an external dvd player, or transfer it to a usb memory stick that can be seen(artificially) as a cd player. It can be upgraded to 2gig.Its quite a small processor chip of 1.6 ghz. The screen size is 1024 x 600 WSVGA, which can upset some programs and games.
In time lighter versions of games will be written to play on netbooks. Try the amazon reviews/comments to see if anyone's loaded games.
sure. It seems all that's required are the drivers files. However, my small investigation has only come up with Asus netbook drivers. So its only a matter of time for the samsung drivers to become available. I saw an amazing demo of an apple laptop using multi-touch. The reviewer said he didn't even need a mouse anymore!
The black shows up every single finger print. The keyboard keys are not that clear and I've heard that some people have a real problem with seeing the scroll track on the touchpad. For a video on how fingerprinty the black gets go to qvcuk for a half hour presentation on the nc10. The reviewer absolutely loves the black one. I love white. Its great they have 3 colours for different tastes.
I read your review on Amazon. I thought you were fair and didn't over-react and give it one star. I don't think its a common fault as a lot more reviewers would mention it. Sending these things back is a pain though and expensive.
I'm confused by the dongle? You mention it is included & can download software? Mine had no such dongle that would emulate a hard drive. Sorry but you lost me on that part....And, do you have the screen defect on yours? Thanks for any clarification,
The Dongle was bought from a Mobile phone provider. It has a sim card in the Dongle. Its really a USB stick giving Mobile Broadband. I've got mine on a £15.00 a month contract. T-Mobile don't start adding on extra charges if you go over your limit which I like. I've cut down on my daily newspaper as I now use the internet on the move. So that helps with the payment as well. If you add it up daily and weekend papers it comes to nearly £15.00.
Your right. I can, however, be a bit too animated with my hands which can be distracting. Without my hands waving about I lose my personal animation power:)
I've a picture in my mind to do an over-the-top wild manic review for a yule tyde laugh.
That's interesting. I'll look around and test it out. I doubt it though as it would have been mentioned as a top feature. Would be really cool though.
I just checked out the cnet review and you are 100% correct they do say that it has a touchscreen on their specs list. Funny though the review didn't mention it. Instead he was saying how similar to the other netbooks it was , and then further down saying how good it was. Strange review.
Thanks for your compliments, its my first video review but I've got experience with a video camera. My Beginner Tai Chi video is my first dvd to address the complications found in learning Tai Chi for the first time.

It was rated the best netbook at Consumer Reports.
CR's Take
This netbook offered long battery life and has one of the larger keyboards for its class. The display had fewer flaws than the others.
Highs
7 hours of battery life. Has a high-resolution, anti-reflective display with a wide viewing angle. Includes a carrying case.
Lows
Speakers are not loud.
Final rating: 53%

I read your review on Amazon. I thought you were fair and didn't over-react and give it one star. I don't think its a common fault as a lot more reviewers would mention it. Sending these things back is a pain though and expensive.

I'm confused by the dongle? You mention it is included & can download software? Mine had no such dongle that would emulate a hard drive. Sorry but you lost me on that part....And, do you have the screen defect on yours? Thanks for any clarification,
Mike

I've a picture in my mind to do an over-the-top wild manic review for a yule tyde laugh.

i heard this netbook support touchscreen? at least that's what it says on cnet.
